About the House
A long driveway, bordered by colourful bougainvillea, welcomes you to the Captain's House, a 2-bed private villa on Tortola. The villa sits majestically high up hillside with breathtaking panoramic ocean views from all corners of the property.
The large private pool separates the two pavilions ensuring maximum privacy to guests. The east pavilion offers king or twin beds with outdoor shower and private balcony. On the far side of the pool, a shady loggia provides an ideal area for alfresco dining and relaxation and leads into the main pavilion.
The living room, with tropical casual furnishings, is located adjacent to the fully equipped kitchen complete with dishwasher.
The master king bedroom suite beyond the living room also boasts an outdoor shower with sea views and private balcony.
Impressive 16' cathedral ceilings in the bedrooms and living room keep the villa well ventilated and comfortable, complimented by cooling tradewinds. Captain's House is a popular and romantic retreat.
Relax poolside at The Captain's House or venture forth to learn why Tortola is an island much loved by sailors, divers and fishermen. There are over 50 islands surrounding Tortola for day-trippers to discover and rediscover. From the beaches, you can swim in tranquil blue waters or snorkel along a magnificent reef while you watch multi-hued fish dart through colorful coral. For scuba divers, there is the world famous Wreck of the Rhone to explore, as well as many caves and coves filled with the wonders of the sea. For fishermen, there are deep sea fishing expeditions as well as smaller boats to rent, with or without captains. There are many day trips to choose from as well, such as Norman Island, site of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island and Virgin Gorda, where mammoth boulders dot the shore.
Known for its pristine, sandy beaches and clear blue waters, Tortola's lush, mountainous terrain offers additional attraction and exploration for visitors. Road Town, the capital of Tortola, can be reached from The Captain's House by way of a pleasant drive along the seaside highway. Tortola can be easily and conveniently reached from a number of gateways. From the U.S., several major airlines fly into San Juan, Puero Rico, and St Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Both locations offer regularly scheduled flights to Tortola's Beef Island Airport. The Captain's House is a short ride from there. In addition to flights, there are ferry services from St Thomas as well. 45 minutes on the ferry takes you to Soper's Hole; The Captain's House is just minutes away.

Your house helped make our stay better. It is a great design, in a wonderful location and we appreciated the amenities like the well stocked kitchen and the maid service....
Grace and I would like to rent your house again next year .
Thanks for letting us be guests in your house.
My husband and I, our teenage daughter and her friend had a fabulous stay at the Captain's House. It was perfect for us. The scenery is just incredible, views from everywhere. The house has everything one can want. We cooked in some nights, used the grill and had lovely meals out by the pool. Being so close to Soper's Hole Marina was very convenient for groceries, restaurants, ferry and boats. The people in the BVIs are so kind and helpful. We really enjoyed everything we did. Loved the Baths and Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda, White Bay on Jost Van Dyke, and Cane Garden Bay and Smugglers Cove Beach on Tortola. Using the ferries to get around was very easy. Next time we'll do a day charter on a catamaran for sure! And next time we won't be so fearful of the steep driving. Sam and Sharlene at Villas of Tortola were so helpful from the minute we booked the vacation. We will be back for another fabulous vacation! Thank you Captain's House!!
Ah, The Captain's House; what a great stay we had there in October of 2016. It was the perfect place for two couples to share on Tortola. We found it very neat and clean and never tired of the spectacular view from the house. Besides the view we found the pool to be a very inviting and refreshing asset. The villa has no A/C but this was not a problem for us in October. The ceiling fans and the breezes up on the mountain side made for a most comfortable stay - or should I say, a very relaxing stay! Tortola is a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day lives, and Captain's House is the perfect villa for two to four. Go. Lastly, I will say that the drive up the hill is a bit of a challenge at first, but one quickly adapts to the narrow mountain roads. Believe me, it is worth the effort to get up to this villa. Also, I have to recommend Smuggler's Cove Beach as the quintessential Caribbean beach - exquisite in every way!
We agree completely with the numerous other positive reviews. They are so uniformly excellent that there is no need for a repeat. We found that the compact architectural layout of the main structure/pool deck/guest room fit beautifully for the two of us and would for four as well. It was all extremely comfortable for our needs. The kitchen appeared fully equipped, but we chose to eat dinners out. (The excellent meals at the nearby Sugar Mill restaurant became our regular choice.) We have cruised these waters several times but this was our first on-island stay. Reviews elsewhere had warned that our rented Suzuki Jimney would be significantly underpowered on numerous stretches, as indeed it was. Our next trip will opt for a model with increased horsepower. We learned that it helps to bring your sense of humor and adventure when negotiating the numerous switchbacks and frequently very steep pitches so characteristic of the hillside back roads (roads?). Samantha & JC at Villas of Tortola provided uniformly prompt and excellent assistance with questions during our planning and booking process. Dede’s rental provided smooth car drop off and pickup. If in the area do not fail to enjoy very nearby Smuggler’s Cove. This beautiful beach and its extensive sandy swimming area are not to be missed.
My husband and I stayed at Captain's House with our two and we had the most amazing vacation! Everything was perfect the view was breath-taking and the villa was just a beautiful as the pictures if not better. We had such a wonderful vacation that we hope to visit again for our next family vacation. The villa was immaculate and had everything you could want or need, down to beach chairs and a cooler for visiting the islands many lovey beaches. Sam the villa manager was extremely help from my first dealing with her when booking all the way through our vacation. She met us at the West End ferry, took us to our villa and provided many recommendation for things to do on Tortola and throughout the BVIs. If you want a beautiful villa with sunsets to die for Captain's House is your place.
Just returned from a wonderful stay at Captain's House. My wife and I have been traveling to Tortola since 1998 and have stayed at many beautiful villas. We wanted to stay at Captain's House for a number of years and since we were traveling alone it was the perfect time. When we walked in we were immediately impressed. The villa was immaculate. The photos do not do it justice. Perfect for a romantic getaway. Sharlene, the villa manager was fantastic and was completely committed to making our stay perfect. We asked for a cooler and she brought one immediately. Lorna, the house keeper was great also. Extremely friendly and also dedicated to perfection. Of course our first critique was to compare it with other villas. We both thought tied for number one but by the end of the week, number one! We like to stay in Belmont Estates for its privacy and proximity to beaches and other attractions we like to visit. Peter, the owner, called during our stay to check on us. This shows the commitment to excellence. We would return in a heartbeat. If you are used to driving in the Caribbean the drive is normal but steep. And the view is what you would expect from the photos but much better. We have stayed at villas without air conditioning and Captain's house proved you really don't need it in a good location. Would recommend this villa to my closest friends.
My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary with our first trip to Tortola and stay at the Captain's House.
Locals Sam & JC were fantastic helping us with rental car, finding the House, providing tips about the area and addressing a maintenance need extremely quickly (especially considering we were on island time!).
The photos are NOT too good to be true...this place has beautiful views and is very private. Home is well equipped and each morning we enjoyed a cooked breakfast we would eat outside by the pool. We were there 6 nights and this was a great base for us to explore Tortola and ferry to Virgin Gorda and Anegada and relax at the Captain's House. Thanks for sharing your place with us! - J&C
