Escape the fast-paced world in the Green Cottage on Morro Bay, a very private Cottage. The Cottage is quiet, cozy and sits next to the water on Morro Bay, California. It is a peaceful and romantic guest hideaway for lovers … lovers of nature, art, thought, books, wine, adventure, discovery, solitude and soul, but especially for those who love and love to nurture themselves. There are no jangling phones, fax machines, blaring TVs, traffic sounds or other intrusions on your retreat.
The Cottage says:
“I have a tale to tell, my very own…won’t you come inside awhile and help me sing my song? I may be just a small beach cottage, but step into my entry and you’ll be welcomed by an eclectic mixture of art and antiques collected by my family over the years and lovingly displayed to create a romantic and intimate environment to inspire you during your stay.'
'I sit on a bird sanctuary on the rural Central Coast of California, where I enjoy unobstructed 280 degree views of the Bay and mountains.
'I offer you the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, in romance, here in 'the middle kingdom' as National Geographic once called my region of California. I am your natural escape, your refuge and your home base for exploring all that is around me and all that is within you.
'Come and stay a spell with me. Read one of my intriguing books filled with short stories or watch one of my many DVDs. Make tea or cook a gourmet meal in my fully equipped kitchen to enjoy by candlelight or under the stars on my kitchen’s deck. Snuggle into my sea foam green king-size bed.
'Curl up with a good book in my corner reading chair, peruse original art on my walls, and discover my handmade baskets and carvings from South America, the South Seas, and local Native Americans. Enjoy a glass of award-winning Central Coast wine as you sit quietly on my deck and watch the pelicans, herons, snowy plovers and peregrine falcons while the sun slips silently into the horizon.
'I have seen and heard many things in my three score and ten years. Like all places where people dwell, there is a spirit here that has been shaped by the personalities, conversations, and temperament of those who have spent time here. I have been occupied by travelers, adventurers, writers, painters, photographers, romantics and naturalists…and by my owners’ four generations of artists and lovers of life. Their presence lingers in the air and invites you to both partake and contribute your own essence to my evolving character.' --- The Green Cottage on Morro Bay
The Cottage has been in our family for two generations. We have lived on the bay for over three decades and love it, and love to share it with others. The Cottage was originally built to shelter the duck hunters and fishermen who were attracted here, but it was soon bought in the 1950's by our parents and was used as a residence while they built their dream home next door. The Cottage has been our family's guesthouse since then and we've just made it available as a vacation rental. The charm as a family retreat has been retained through the complete refurbishing received in 2009. We have designed the Cottage to provide our guests with the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the Central Coast experience. We are not the Best Western -- just the opposite. What our guests won't find here are ringing phones, blaring TV or fax machines -- all by design, although we do provide wireless internet service and a 38' HDTV for watching DVDs, plus over 300 DVDs to choose from. We want the cottage to provide guests with the ability to ESCAPE the fast-paced world. We've tried to provide everything we can think of to make our guests feel pampered and comfortable.
Pandora Nash-Karner purchased this cottage in 1950
This has been a private guest house for our family for over 6 decades. When it is not used by the family, it is available for visitors.
The bay is part of the National Estuary Program, as well as a designated bird sanctuary. There are many places nearby to view birds, including a private dock. Morro Bay is an important stopover on the Pacific Flyway and winter home to numerous bird species. The north coast area of San Luis Obispo County is a haven for artists, wine and food aficionados, water sports enthusiasts, antique collectors, hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and people who appreciate quiet, undiscovered get-away locations. When the lure of open spaces calls you, follow winding country roads to award-winning vineyards for wine tasting, or to grassy hilltops for a picnic overlooking the Pacific. Beautiful Hearst Castle is just 35-minutes away, and beyond that is the splendor of the Big Sur coastline.
San Luis Obispo's initials -- SLO -- precisely describes the speed a visitor should use in examining the area's treasures and pleasures. Go to fast and you'll miss of the off-the beaten path venues hidden back in the hills and canyons like the Pozo Saloon, See Canyon apple farms, Tibor Canyon organic olive oil Ranch or the charming town of Harmony, with a population of 15.
My husband and I were lucky enough to experience the Green Cottage for a "way too short" visit of three nights. The cottage was everything as advertised - spotlessly clean, and completely furnished with lots of nice homey touches. Fresh fruit, freshly ground local coffee, yogurt and fresh flowers were waiting for our arrival. We also loved the nice thick towels that were much better quality than those we've experienced in many fine hotels. The fact that the cottage is located in a residential area, away from the touristy area, but close enough for easy access, was a definite bonus. The view from the deck and kitchen windows was perfect - a great view of Morro Rock, lots of birds, and beautiful sunsets. The notebooks provided with information on restaurants, local attractions and local history were another welcome touch. We look forward to returning to the Green Cottage as often as possible, because it feels like home away from home.
The Green Cottage is probably our favorite place to stay. For us, it feels like a second home. It is very comfortable and is very well and interestingly decorated. It’s possible to spend hours wandering around looking at this and that, whether it is a small statue or sign or one of the many interesting books. It is spotlessly clean and has a very well-stocked kitchen with just about everything that you could want in the way of plates, glasses, silverware and utensils. There is freshly ground coffee, some fresh fruit and yogurt for your stay.
The owners, Pandora and Gary, who live a few houses away, are available if you need them or want information, but otherwise leave you completely alone.
The cottage sits on the edge of Morro Bay, and the unobstructed view from the deck or, if it is a bit cool, the kitchen table is spectacular, looking north across the bay toward Morro Rock. Watching the sunrise or sunset from the deck is very special, and the bay is home to many different types of interesting birds.
The Los Osos/Morro Bay area is a great place to visit. (There are three large notebooks full of things-to-do, restaurants and the like, and there are hiking and wildlife books, as well as binoculars in the cottage.) There are many short and longer walks/hikes. Montana de Oro State Park, with a hike along the rocky bluffs overlooking the ocean, is great, and on our last trip we spent time at Los Osos Oaks State Natural Reserve, which was fascinating for its hundreds of tangled oak trees covered with mosses and lichens.
Morro Bay (the town) has the usual array of gift shops, galleries and bay-front or view restaurants, but the bigger attraction for us is the bay itself with sea lions, otters and birds. (Next trip we are renting kayaks.) That said, two of our favorite places to eat are The Galley for a formal, sit-down restaurant and Giovanni’s Fish Market and Galley for an informal, pick-up-you-own-order, eat-outside-on-picnic-tables place.
San Luis Obispo is an interesting university town close-by, and you are within a day-trip of Hearst Castle and a number of wineries, if those interest you. For us, though, the best thing about visiting the Green Cottage is spending time at the cottage — relaxing with a cup of coffee and binoculars in the morning and returning for a glass of wine and the sunset in the evening.
Try the Green Cottage. We think that you will like it.
We had a great three days during this new year holiday in the Green Cottage!
The cottage was as beautiful as the VRBO pictures show! The cottage was newly remodeled and spotless clean! The linen and towels were nice quality and clean.
The room decoration was beautiful, and the entire cottage was just like a museum with lots of charming items from all over the world!
We also enjoyed watching the Harst Castle DVD and reading information about nearby trails, restaurants, and sightseeing.
The owner was very thoughtful. She prepared items, such as socks, flowers, fruits, yogurt, two types of coffee, half and half, oatmeal, and more for us!
Since we forgot to bring our slippers, we really appreciated her thoughtfulness of the thick socks! They kept us warm during the entire stay!
We were so pleased to start a new year watching a magnificent Morro Rock/Morro Bay view from the kitchen without getting cold!
Also, I walked on the private dock several times during our stay! On there, I felt like I was the only person in the world! Very peaceful experience!
I highly recommend this cottage to anybody. Since you can see the beautiful Morro Bay/Morro Rock view from the kitchen and deck, It is a great place to stay during cold winter days as well as nice spring, summer, and fall days!
I hope to stay in this beautiful and peaceful Green Cottage again someday in the near future!
We visited Green Cottage for four days in December 2015 and we can't say enough good things about it!
First is the incredible location, situated on the most beautiful lagoon/estuary with a great view of the amazing (and huge!) Morro Rock in the distance.
The cottage is literally steps from the water and even though the weather was brisk we sat out on the deck every day watching the many, many birds (and ducks!) float by.
The interior of the cottage is incredibly charming - it was VERY clean with a lot of artwork an personal touches that made it feel like "home". And the king bed was literally THE most comfortable bed we have EVER slept on in a VRBO!
And last (but definitely not least) is the owner - Pandora - who truly could not have been nicer or more accommodating. She was there for us if we needed anything but at the same time gave us total privacy to enjoy the cottage.
We have been vacationing in VRBO properties for close to 15 years now and Green Cottage is now our absolute FAVORITE.......we'll definitely be back! Thanks so much Pandora for being such a gracious host.
I spent 10 beautiful days at The Green Cottage. It truly became my home away from home.
The cottage has everything and more to make it a comfortable home. The views and scenery are fabulous from the waterfront patio. Its fun to do a puzzle and watch all the birds and wildlife from the kitchen table. A must stay if you are visiting Los Osos or any of the surrounding areas. I will be back for sure very soon.
Spent our 25th Anniversary in this cozy little cottage. They have thought of everything in this place. Well supplied kitchen, great reading on the area and many fun suggestions for your time spent in area. The view of Morro Bay from back porch is very peaceful. Enjoyed watching the birds. Definitely exceeded expectations.
