Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi!

Just wanted to send a note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at your Cedar Chalet. We found the house in excellent condition and a perfect accommodation for the five of us. We loved the peace and quiet of the evenings, and were very thankful that we didn't opt to stay in the Village - too busy for us!

We had one day of serious hiking ... my husband, daughter, and niece hiked the trail of Yosemite Falls... they made it safely to the top to

take in the view and savor that feeling of a major accomplishment!

Our niece's husband and I found some "easy" trails to explore and really enjoyed ourselves. Our timing was perfect for this visit - plenty of water to show off the splendor of the falls, and beautiful summer flowers all along the way. And, perfect weather... which allowed us to see the most amazing stars on our evening "Stargazing"

tour at Glacier Point.

One evening, we decided to watch the sunset from the fire ranger station near your chalet - but we never reached our destination - we encountered one of your huge park bears - right in the middle of the trail! Everyone hightailed it out of there - I did pause long enough to snap a picture though - to prove the event to our friends!

So, we thank you for sharing your little corner of paradise.. and perhaps we will return at some point in the future - we would like to share this experience with our son, his wife, and our new grandchild some day... her pregnancy is the reason they could not travel with us ... but we all agree that the sacrifice will be well worth it!

Hope that your summer goes well, and that you are enjoying each day.

Sincerely, Dolly Canterbury

Great location, 30 minutes from Yosemite Valley floor. Incredibly serene wooded neighborhood.

Just wow!

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately the hot tub was not working during our stay but the owners had pre-warned us of this via email and there were lots of other things to keep us occupied in the chalet such as card games, board games and the pool table. The location was great with easy access to Yosemite valley. The wifi is incredibly patchy and at times we were unable to access the internet but this is expected in the middle of the woods. Would definitely recommend this accommodation as a way of getting the full feel of Yosemite.

Fantastic place!

We had such a great time at the Storybook Chalet. There is sledding out the front door, quick access to Badger Pass and the Valley, and a wonderful home to hang out in with the family.

Excellent stay and beautiful secluded location but close to Yosemite Valley

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent stay and an excellent location. This is secluded and away from the Yosemite Valley. The home was perfect for our small group of 4. There was three total beds and plenty of room for all. The fireplace required some work and I would recommend some small kindling to get it going. The kitchen is fully stocked for all the needs and they had a grill that worked well. The house comes equipped with some lanterns which were necessary due to a power outage that occurred on Saturday night for quite a few hours.

Overall this was an excellent stay and highly recommended.

Beautiful Property and a great location!

  • 5 of 5

The location was great and the house was very spacious but still felt cozy. The hot tub was fantastic and all the beds were comfortable. Very clean. The Internet worked as well as expected but the cable works great. Pool table was great for our snowed in Sunday.

I think if we even have a complaint it would be you can hear everything in the house but it's a cabin in Yosemite so it's definitely not out of the ordinary, we just noticed it more with a 7 month old baby.

Great Location; Doesnt live up to expections

  • 3 of 5

We've stayed in Yosemite West many times. Its the best in Park experience with easy access to the Valley and Glacier Point. So, we were looking for a great place to stay and go to Badger Pass so the boys could learn to Snowboard and enjoy the snow. There were two families with three boys.

Why we picked the Chalet:

1. Location, Location, Location (lived up to this expectation)

2. Spa (failed completely)

3. Pool table (mixed experience)

4. WiFi (worked great; key to stay connected since there is no cell service)

First Impressions:

1. Arrived near dark on Friday in freezing rain

2. Great curb appeal; easy to find

3. Got in and it was a little dark in the cabin

- Half the lights in the kitchen were out and half the lights over the dining room table were out

4. Wanted to start a fire (get the chill out of us), but there was no firewood next to the stove (as indicated on the checklist). Not too happy at this point.

- Firewood was under the house with freezing water dripping down. Lucky for the adults we had two boys that didnt mind. But it wasnt clear where the firewood was stored and we wouldnt have gotten it if we had arrived later.

We got settled in and unpacked and wanted to jump in the Spa. One of the big reasons we selected this home over others.

- Pulled the cover off and got overwhelmed with the smell of chlorine. We tried to let it air out and then hopped in. Everyone reacted to the Chlorine and had to get out after less then five minutes. It was unusable! Way too much Chlorine and it wasnt burning off. We tried again on Saturday but it hadnt gotten any better.

After dinner and the spa attempt we wanted to play pool. Pool table is a big plus. Boys were very excited and had fun. However, none of the pool cues have tips. Now, we werent expecting perfect cues; but were expecting some of them to have tips.

It just reinforced that the Chalet promised a lot but didnt quite deliver.

We also tried to turn on the fan in the living room, but none of the switches seemed to work for it. We wanted to distribute the heat from the stove. So no fan.

Everything seemed not quite in working order from the lights to the spa to the fan.

The big issue is the items that should differentiate the Chalet, created a negative experience.

Unfortunately, we went in really want to like this place; but left not being able to recommend it.

Owner's Response: Sean, I apologize for the lapses during your visit. I wish you'd contacted us during your stay and we would could have had replacement cues and lights available for you. The housekeeper usually checks and replaces the bad cues and replaces the firewood supply but obviously missed in this case. I have no explanation for the excessive chlorine in the spa. We have it serviced after each guest visit and this is not an ordinary issue.
