Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to send a note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at your Cedar Chalet. We found the house in excellent condition and a perfect accommodation for the five of us. We loved the peace and quiet of the evenings, and were very thankful that we didn't opt to stay in the Village - too busy for us!

We had one day of serious hiking ... my husband, daughter, and niece hiked the trail of Yosemite Falls... they made it safely to the top to

take in the view and savor that feeling of a major accomplishment!

Our niece's husband and I found some "easy" trails to explore and really enjoyed ourselves. Our timing was perfect for this visit - plenty of water to show off the splendor of the falls, and beautiful summer flowers all along the way. And, perfect weather... which allowed us to see the most amazing stars on our evening "Stargazing"

tour at Glacier Point.

One evening, we decided to watch the sunset from the fire ranger station near your chalet - but we never reached our destination - we encountered one of your huge park bears - right in the middle of the trail! Everyone hightailed it out of there - I did pause long enough to snap a picture though - to prove the event to our friends!

So, we thank you for sharing your little corner of paradise.. and perhaps we will return at some point in the future - we would like to share this experience with our son, his wife, and our new grandchild some day... her pregnancy is the reason they could not travel with us ... but we all agree that the sacrifice will be well worth it!

Hope that your summer goes well, and that you are enjoying each day.

Sincerely, Dolly Canterbury

Wonderful Home away from Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful trip to Yosemite. Our family (four adults and two elementary aged kids) thoroughly enjoyed the pool table (the kids especially) and the hot tub in the evenings. What I most appreciated was how well stocked the home was. We have stayed at many VRBO's over the years and the standard set-up is that there is one or two of basic necessities such as toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, etc. It is the expectation that the guests will have to shop to have enough of those items for the remainder of the trip. This rental however was beautifully stocked - costco amounts of toilet paper, kitchen trash bags, dishwasher pods, and even shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the bathrooms! Given the closet grocery store is at least 30 minutes away this was really wonderful. The kitchen was well stocked as were the bedrooms. Plenty of extra pillows and cozy blankets. Definitely recommend. Had a lovely time!

A spacious, modern, well-appointed home in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The house boasts a well-stocked kitchen with all the tools and appliances one could need, and common areas that perfectly accommodated our party of 6. The bedrooms are large and comfortable, with plenty of extra pillows and linens. The bathrooms are clean and roomy, and I especially appreciated the hot, high pressure shower complete with soap and shampoo dispenser. Our two toddlers had a fantastic time running around this surpisingly child-friendly chalet, while the adults enjoyed the pool table and hot tub (which worked perfectly the whole weekend). Overall, we had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this chalet for medium-sized families and groups.

Amazing Property

  • 5 of 5

Thanks for opening your house to us. We had a great time. The jacuzzi worked great and the pool table was a hit. The house was a great place for us to recover after hiking half dome. Thanks again!

Perfect location

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was more than I expected! It had a perfect location, especially for hiking and not wanting to stay in the village. The cabin had all the amenities a vacation cabin should have! My only recommendation is that there were only 3 washclothes for a 6+ people cabin, we had 4 people during our stay, making it very inconvenient. Also, the electric plugs were very loose and would not hold onto the things I attempted to plug in, and the dryer was quite finicky. Overall, I was more than pleased and will be staying here again upon my return to Yosemite!

Nice property but not running on all cylinders when we were there

  • 4 of 5

Property was attractive and clean but we had a number of small issues that added up. First, the hot tub was operating too hot and we were asked to turn it off to let it cool down and then turn it on again. That was not on our minds when we left in the mornings so it was never a suitable temperature when we came back in the evening. Apparently, repairman from Fresno could only come up southern entrance which was closed. Nothing was wrong with the west entrance.

The internet was very slow if it worked at all. We were told there was a monthly limit on data transmission at a high speed which apparently had been reached before we arrived and we got slow transmission if we got it at all.

There were only 8 forks and we had a party of 11.

The front door was wide open when we arrived which was unsettling when we first walked in.

All the outlets in the upstairs bedroom were so worn that they wouldn't hold a plug.

Blinds in the upstairs bedroom were very dusty and two of us have dust allergies.

Owner was responsive but is not located in the area and doesn't seem to have local support.

These were all minor issues for us but they should not be issues at all given the rent we were paying.

We ran a furnished apartment unit for 16 years at a high rent and made sure everything was operating or got it fixed immediately. We were just expecting the same treatment for the price.

Owner's Response: We appreciate the feedback on all items that don't live up to our guest's expectations, or things we can do to improve the experience for futures guests. We also appreciate the nice comments about our responsiveness. The main control board of the spa had just been replaced a month before the guests arrived and our service person (who comes from Fresno - 2 hours away) had been up a few days before to fix the problem with the new unit. The fix required a new control board and the repairman had to make an additional trip to install it. He was scheduled to come to the house to replace the part the day the guests arrived but a fire south of the park forced the closure of the road leading into the park, which was closed for several days during the guests stay. This prevented the repairman from getting to the house until the road was re-opened after their visit. We apologized for the issue with the spa and offered guidance to the guests on how to circumvent the issue. The defective part was replaced after the guest's visit and the spa is again working normally. The guests contacted us during their stay about spa but did not mention any other issues until after their stay. We keep 12-16 utensils available in the kitchen for guest use (see previous comments about the well stocked kitchen). We do not know why several forks were missing but could have been easily replaced during their stay if the guest had let us know during their stay (as well as the dusty blinds in a bedroom). We have a local housekeeping service and a local contractor who are very responsive to any problems with the house and likely left the door ajar when finished cleaning, just before the guests arrival. The guest issue with the internet service is unfortunately outside of our control and we tell our guests ahead of time that the internet will be slower than what they are accustomed to at home. Because of the remote, mountainous area there are only 2 internet service providers available. Both are satellite services, which are much slower than either cable or dsl lines (which are not available in Yosemite). We pay for both providers and have 2 internet connections at the house. One of the services has a monthly data limit after which the service slows down even further, which is why we offer the second service which has a daily data limit but resets each day. Sorry that there is no other fix for the internet - that's just the nature of the beautiful location you are visiting in Yosemite.
