About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1Baths (Sleeps 5)

This lovely cabin in a private setting is spacious yet has a warm rustic feeling. Built in the 1940s, it has a stone fireplace, maple hardwood floors, pine walls, a cathedral ceiling in the living room with a cozy sleeping loft on the mezzanine, plus two bedrooms on the main level with queen beds. There is a separate dining room that seats 6 and a breakfast room off of the kitchen. The wraparound porch has chairs and a large round table for dining or just sipping coffee. It is surrounded by a very large open lawn with mature trees and looks out at a riding stables. You can sit on the large wraparound porch or walk over to the stables and take a trail ride or riding lesson in the large indoor arena. Pony rides are also available for children. The beach is a short walk, or drive for 1 minute, park in our private spot, and walk around the corner to the beach.

The decor has been thoughtfully created by a Chicago designer and builder to be unique yet comfortable.

This home has a new 95% efficiency furnace and central air, newer appliances and is very well maintained. Pets are welcome. Email for details.

The surroundings : This home sits on a large lot and is surrounded by trees. You can see the riding stables across from the private drive. Guests can take trail rides, children can have pony rides, or just visit and bring them carrots. They are very people friendly. The beach is a short walk from the cabin, and we provide private pkg around the corner from the stairs to the water if you choose to drive for the two minutes it takes to get there.

Restaurants and shopping: There is a very nice grocery store down highway 12, which takes all of 10 minutes to get to by car. If you drive another 5 minutes, you will arrive at Light House Mall, a very large discount mall with national retailers. You can also shop and dine in New Buffalo, Michigan, which is 10 minutes in the other direction on highway 12. There are boutiques and Chicago quality restaurants in town and further up along 12, or you can head into the quaint restored town of Three Oaks to see theater, art galleries, shop, or dine.

A cozy getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our weekend stay. The surroundings were peaceful and the cabin was clean and had all the amenities we needed. Slept great! Nice location close to restaurants and shopping.

Great location but not user friendly.

  • 3 of 5

This is a great location for relaxing and cute activities/dining.

We started our trip walking up an unshoveled walkway. I didn't know if there was a sidewalk until we were checking out.

The kitchen was stocked with quality dishes and pots and pans. As previous reviews said, the furniture was not very comfortable and there are NO blinds or curtains throughout the house (only in the bedrooms). I ignored this because someone said the home is in a secluded area and the windows don't need any. There is A LOT of activity around the cabin with the stables and near by homes. Being from Chicago, I was extremely uncomfortable late at night but liked it during the day. I really enjoyed waking up and being able to watch the horses. The outside space looks like it would be lovely in the summertime.

I did smell manure in the winter so I would fear the smell in the heat.

The lights are not evenly distributed and some areas are dark (mostly the kitchen and dining area). I found another light near the sink our last night. Also, many of the dishes were pourly washed. I assume the owner is depending on guests to clean things like their own, but they are just ready to go. We washed many of the items before using them.

The shower was very difficult to work. I know this sounds weird, but with 4 adults, we all had to come together to figure it out.

At check out, I felt like there were a lot of requirements before we could leave. I have stayed at other locations and all that was required was to start the dishwasher and dispose of the garbage. This location had us dispose the recycling near a neighbors house (A half block away in the unshoveled few inches snow), remove all of sheets and have the bathroom rugs and towels WASHED AND DRIED. Then dispose the trash in a different location (more convient when departing). Have all the dishes washed and drying (No dishwasher). I was extremely stressed when we were leaving because of the check out expectations. I wouldn't ever want to stay somewhere with so many check out procedures. It was a terrible way to end my restful weekend.

Some recommendations for future guests:

Bring something to cover the windows. There are hooks and hardware for blinds and curtains.

Bring aluminum foil and paper towels for easier cleanup.

Bring quality knives & serving utensils. These were the lowest quality items in the kitchen & made it difficult to cook at times. Eat out for less cleanup (there is a off season).

Lovely stay - and my kids loved the horseback riding lessons!

  • 4 of 5

I went with my two children (7 and 9) to stay for a weekend just to do something different. We had a lovely time at this sweet little cabin. We did sign the kids up for riding lessons, one on Saturday and one on Sunday and my only regret was not signing myself up. They were excellent. And Claudia went way out of her way when I left my winter coat at her cabin to personally make sure it got back to me. Thanks!

Perfect for a mommy and baby weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

As a new mom there are a lot of demands on my time. City life is busy especially for working mom's trying to figure it all out. Claudia's cabin was the perfect R&R I needed to reset...unplug...and just be. Together with my 7 month old we hung out enjoying every present moment from walking in nature to hanging with horses to building a fire on a cold winter's day. Our bond is tighter now. Claudia's home is beautiful, comfortable, and serene. Her people at Red Arrow Stable amazing! Oh and be sure to say hi to Lucky, the coolest cat, walking the grounds. We'll be back. Thank you again!

Snowy get away.

  • 4 of 5

It was a super cute cabin in the snow close to everything but far enough away. We only had one wrinkle with firewood and not having it there like was expected. Since it was a snowy get away that was kinda important. Ended up just getting some ourselves so we could have a few fires. but it was a lovely stay other than that.

Cozy Cabin!!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our two night stay very much. It was a prefect getaway and location surrounded by a wooded area not to mention the horses and deer. Our favorite detail of the cabin was the fireplace. We took a 15 minute walk down to Lake Michigan beach through a residential area. We also took part in some night life with the two different casino's in the area.
