Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)
About John Thomas
For Stacy and I building this cabin was an effort to create a very unique retreat. We found the perfect setting; a five acre estate lot within a gated 200 acre nature Preserve, that boasted a view which even the locals described as the best they had ever seen. We then hired a team to travel to Pennsylvania to dismantle and retrieve the materials from two 150+ year old barns. One actually stood on the battlefield at Gettysburg, but had to be removed to make way for the new visitor's center. The other had been built by Amish pioneers. All of the timbers had been laboriously hand hewed with broad axes. We carefully planned each detail to create the feeling of an old 1800s cabin, while incorporating modern conveniences. Upon his first visit, a technician who came to install the satellite dish and receiver commented 'I'll bet you had a challenge getting this old place up to code'. I replied that it was a new cabin, to which he responded with dismay, 'you built it like this?'. Mission accomplished.
John Thomas purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why John Thomas chose Sapphire
Around the chic mountain village of Cashiers, North Carolina, (10 minutes from the cabin) fashionable development keeps pace with the growing demand for vacation and retirement homes. Easily understandable considering Cashiers is located in the waterfall area of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where high elevation lakes, streams, and rivers abound. Adding to the natural attractions that beckon the thousands of affluent, seasonal residents (plus a multitude of visitors) are notable golf courses, trendy shops, fine dining establishments, and tennis resorts. Asheville, home of the Biltmore Estate, is a cultural hub not to be missed, less than an hour drive away.
What makes this Cabin unique
Do you desire the peace, quite, and solitude of being by yourself, with only the splendor of nature and your loved one(s) in the mountains, but still very close to fine dining, upscale shopping, outdoor activities, and resort amenities? We did, and it was a most difficult combination to find. Sapphire Heaven is the result of our quest to create that rare combination. As a bonus we even have a private waterfall within a short hike.

Definitely a magical place
All of the reviews here are accurate, the property is beautiful and meticulously crafted and the views alone are worth every penny of the stay. The location is also amazing, with multiple waterfalls in the area and a bunch of cute places to eat. A thoroughly enjoyable vacation, thanks so much for letting us stay.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Please return when you can.

my sister and I took a week off from the southern heat, the respective job stress neurosis and the nagging family dynamics. We left those frets and worries at the foot of Sapphire Heaven’s driveway.....and never looked back. Personally, I found it to be cozy, warm, inviting and very well equipped...not to mention those mesmerizing sunrises and the ethereal moonrise, if you’re so lucky....from the hammock!
Loved our time there. John is very welcoming and responsive
Oh, BTW...It’s a dog’s Sapphire Heaven also They can run and explore a gazillion smells while navigating some interesting terrain.
I would definitely return to Sapphire Heaven. It

My husband and I absolutely fell in love with this property. The view was fantastic and the hikes on the property and around the preserve were wonderful and very private. It was so incredibly cozy and the bed was extremely comfortable. We felt as though we had our own little slice of heaven during our stay. I would definitely stay here again.

Wow. The view off that deck is one that makes you want to stay longer. Very unique cabin with the timber construction. Enjoyed climbing down to the waterfall. Just a great place!

Private Waterfall!: There is a spectacular waterfall that is about 150 yards from the cabin. The trail to it is steep in places, which makes it a difficult hike, but well worth the effort. The waterfall area is totally private and exclusively accessible from our cabin property. What is even more amazing is the fact that you can easily walk behind the falling water and stay totally dry. Naturally, I've named it Sapphire Heaven Falls. As you stand behind it, the top of the fall starts about 40 feet above your head from a bowl shaped rock outcropping, then falls twenty feet out from you, and ten feet below you to cascade steeply down the mountain. There is so much room under/behind the falls that you can have a picnic for the whole family. The falls are made private by the sheer walls above and below this plateau shelf. Amazing!
