Hello all! I first bought a vacation home in Mal Pais, Costa Rica in 2005 after I rented a villa for a week with friends. I was so amazed with the area and fell in love with the atmosphere so much that I ended up buying the house I rented. Since then I have truly loved to share this place with friends, family and guests through rentals. We stayed so busy that I was having to turn people away. So instead of turning them away because our home was so busy I decided to start a luxury vacation rental company. I now work with over 20 homes in the Mal Pais and Santa Teresa area. My passion is to be able to find that perfect home for our guests so that they also can show up in a home and feel the same way I did when I fisrt arrived to Mal Pais. I would love to help you find that dream home and help you create that perfect vacation. I have met so many wonderful people since 2005 and it just keeps growing. I would love to help so please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
The Almond house was an incredible home to stay in during our vacation. The house itself is perfectly set up and the pool is the best. The views are amazing and we truly enjoyed spending time there. We stayed for 10 days and the staff and grounds keeper were very attentive and helpful when we needed something. The water went out one night and the next morning by the time we woke up Kaun Carlos already had it fixed!
We felt very safe and secure. We didn't want to leave!
We would highly recommend this home for a couple or small family, it would even work for a small group of friends.
Thanks again for the stay it was the perfect time spot for our home base!! We can't wait to come back.
I have stayed in this house three times over 6 years. The first, my now husband and I fell in love. The second, we brought all our loved ones and had our wedding. And we just returned to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. To say that it's special to us, is an understatement. But for the sake of this review, I will try and leave my obsession for this home aside.
THE HOUSE: The house itself rests right on the beach. You will spend most of your time in the wade-in pool and you can hear the waves while you swim. The pool is the center of the home (you can see in the pictures)--each morning you will open the huge glass and wooden doors to the outside, connecting indoors directly to the outdoors. The grounds are landscaped impeccably. Inside, each of the suites could be their own stand alone living quarters. You have complete privacy, they're hugely spacious and they are romantic and grand. Each opens to the outside. And most importantly, they are all air conditioned (it's hot in Costa Rica!). When we didn't enjoy dinners outside, we would take advantage of the giant dining area and create massive spreads for everyone. After dinner, we would have cocktails at the tiki bar in the house and typically head back to the pool. The house is so customized. The wood comes from the owners teak farm and every detail has been taken into consideration--it just feels so special.
LOCATION: Nothing is more than a 5 minute quad ride away, but you feel like you're totally secluded. You can go ziplining right up the road. We always go to the fishing boats to get fresh fish. And we love to stop in and visit friends at the Surf Camp--each time, our guests have taken surf lessons and loved it. You can get a board for the day for (something like) $10. You have tons of restaurants around you!
DINING: Mal Pais has amazing food. Our favorite is Mary's. We literally ordered every item on their special board and weren't disappointed with a single dish. The sushi place is great, but the service is pretty lax. There's a new bakery that has amazing coffee and delicious breakfast. There's so many great restaurants on the beach--really you can slip into most places and just have aps and cocktails for very little money and just enjoy the beauty of this place.
TIP: You have to have a quad/ 4-wheeler. They're not cheap and you don't want to run out of gas.
The house is great has so much wood work that was done by hand. the house leads to the beach which is pretty private and has the best sunsets out there. the owner was very helpful and the staff kept the house clean. Thanks Brian, will be back next year.
