|Minimum Stay||2 - 4 nights|
CONTACT OWNER for Thanksgiving and Christmas: the family members who had planned to stay there are no longer able to do so. My grandmother convinced my father to buy the house in 1964 from an old girlfriend who was trying to raise money to get her manuscripts published. The "ex"? She wrote the NY Times bestseller "Charleston" and went on to be selected by Margaret Mitchell's heirs to write the sequel to "Gone With the Wind"! We have pictures of the house and beach at different periods of our family's involvement. Everyone who enters breathes a sigh of relaxation because of the beautiful views and open layout that invites the constant breeze and sea air. We have retained all of the charming and necessary features for full beach enjoyment such as a large porch looking out over the ocean with a comfortable sofa and chairs, a porch dining table with six chairs and room for more, and a hard to resist hammock. In addition, we have provided modern amenities such as Keurig cofee/cocoa/tea maker, wireless internet, Dish Satellite, Flat Screen TVs and DVD players. There are two additional televisions with DVD players in two bedrooms. Of course there is central heating and air.
Our favorite spots are the swing on the beach side, the lounge chairs on the deck that face the beach, and the dune deck that allows you to perch above the rest of the beach goers and watch the surfers and ships. The full kitchen with gas stove, gas grill, and dining room make it so you never have to leave this great spot to eat. However, there are fabulous restaurants on the Isle of Palms, Sullivans Island and downtown. It is a five-minute drive to Target and Towne Center, where there are boutiques, a movie theater, a Lowes, and a department store. There are dozens of highly rated golf courses within a 20-mile radius. All of the bedrooms have ceiling fans, blinds, functioning windows and screens to allow for the refreshing sea breeze. The HVAC is brand new. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed, charming tile bathroom, two closets, and t.v. and DVD player. The other two bedrooms on the main floor, twin and queen, have built-in dressers and full closets, and share a bathroom with shower and tub. The first floor bedroom has twin beds, its own bathroom, and two showers adjacent to it. Downstairs is another den with TV and a futon/bunk bed perfect hang out for teens!
This is a family house. We enjoy it with children and cousins of multiple ages, and there is something for everyone. We live in Charleston and use the house when we can, so it is kept in prime condition and we have rented the house for more than 40 years, so we know what needs to be done to create a positive experience for renters. We are in the process of passing the house to our sons for estate planning purposes and to continue the tradition, thereby preserving the house for the family for a third generation, and more, we hope!

The Isle of Palms is a safe, welcoming, and supportive community. You can walk to the grocery store, post office, restaurants, ice cream, and seafood store. The playground is in walking distance and has tennis courts, a basketball court, gym, soccer, football, and baseball fields. The public park with lifeguards is within sight of our house.
We are located in between two of the public access paths, so we are away from the crowds! This is the best surfing area on the beach- the best break is just the to the left of our dune path. We have a full beach and do not experience erosion problems since we are in the middle of the island. We love to look for loggerhead turtle nests and have witnessed both the laying and hatching of eggs and do a lot of running and biking on the beach and on the bike path on the marsh side of the island. All of our friends (even the ones who live here on the Island!) love to come to this house to go to the beach!
Our family get-together was wonderful and relaxing in this charming house. The pictures don't tell the whole story--the furniture is lovely, the kitchen is well stocked, the house was very clean and well maintained, and the location is perfect. Beach access is easy, and the dune deck is a great place to sit above the activity and watch people from your own private perch. We enjoyed being able to see the big cargo ships and cruise liners going by without even leaving the screen porch. The owners are terrific communicators who obviously care about their renters being satisfied. We will be back!
We had such a fantastic time! The family that rented this beach cottage to us were super friendly and helpful. We could tell this house was a happy place from the minute we walked in. It was the perfect place to spend Christmas! We definitely want to come back in the summer!
SO thankful for this IOP escape - true southern charm and relaxation. Comfortable, cozy -very family friendly- a great spot for family gathering, girls weekend or couples getaway. Plenty of parking and steps away from IOP 's beautiful beach.House is well furnished with all things needed - games, sports equipment, grill - anything you will need and not have to load up and bring..the owners think of everything ! It is the true IOP beach house that has withstood the test of time - - you will not be disappointed!
I came as a guest of people renting, and I have to say that this is just what I pictured and needed. The house is clean and airy, with heart of pine floors and walls. With the windows all open and the breeze blowing through it was like being in a tree house! All of the amenities and supplies were in great condition, and my bed was super comfortable. I will be back!
The only positive rating that I can give to this house is the location.
When we saw the original post - this looked like a beach house with old charm. When we arrived at the home - it was the complete opposite of what we were expecting. While walking up to the house, the first thing I noticed was a window on the first floor that was broken - completely shattered. When we entered - it smelled like mold. One of the bedrooms is actually a part of the unfinished basement and it has a window unit to push in AC/keep things cool. The couple that was supposed to sleep in that room - ended up having to stay in the living room - bc the black mold (which was visible - especially in the bathroom across from the bedroom) was such a problem downstairs (the first night we were there - one of the members of our group actually got a nose bleed because the mold was such a problem). The home was not as clean as we would have expected/hoped - we ended up sweeping up the living room (bc sand was all underneath the rug) and wiping down the kitchen ourselves - found old water bottles and dirt underneath the day bed in the living room and glass all over the back yard (which we ended up cleaning up ourselves). We enjoyed the beach and the back deck - but would not recommend staying in this home to any group coming to IOP.
