This cabin is perfect in every way; a romantic hideaway for you and your honey, a family vacation with the kids, or a group getaway ~ you will be delighted with by its charm, open floorplan and welcoming atmosphere. This cabin is owned and operated by the Conway Family of Chicago. It's cozy, warm and down to earth - with the little luxuries and amenities that make your vacation complete, memorable and fun!

Conveniently located in southwest Michigan, not too far from anywhere, but light years away from the stress and nonsense of everyday living.

Nestled in a beautiful nature preserve, a short stroll down the boardwalk to the shore of Goshorn Lake, Roadside Marker Vacation Cabin is part of the vacation community known as Kingfisher Cove.

The Great Room of this beautiful all wood cabin, designed by Deb Colvin, features a 22' high wood-burning fireplace. You'll also find a stereo, with AM/FM tuner, CD player and iPod dock with remote. The dining area features an immense, one-of-a-kind stump wood table, great for meals, as well as board games - a great selection of which can be found in the cabinet next to the fireplace.

And if you're one of those folks who still like to know what's going on in the outside world, don't despair of this get-back-to-nature hideaway. You'll find a 42' Plasma screen television in the loft, with basic cable, and ROKU, so that you can sign in to your own personal streaming accounts (Hulu, Netflix, etc) and enjoy your favorite programs on a rainy day. Did we mention wireless internet? That's there too.

Self-catering - fully appointed kitchen, with stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, coffee maker, cooking and baking utensils, lots of counter space and service for eight.

In the summer, cool off in the pool, steps from the front door.

For cookouts, there's a gas grill. Just off the back porch, you'll find a lovely patio, surrounded by pine trees, and a fire-pit for that evening campfire and marshmallow roast.

And, oh yes. The Private Chilly Season Hot Tub - located on the screened in back porch - a terrific way to relax, spring, fall or winter. (Operational from mid September through mid May.)

Why Dorothy Conway chose Michigan

My husbands family has had close Michigan ties going back three generations. A small fishing/hunting cottage on the shore of Lake Leelaneau in the northern part of the state has been a family gathering spot for 100 years, and in fact, we celebrate it's Centennial in July 2016! Since Saugatuck has always been a stopping point in our travels to and from Lake Leelaneau, and we'd already made many memories there, we were naturally drawn to the area. We like to spend as much time there as our hectic lives will allow, but when we can't be there, we are excited to be able to help others find a great place to get away from it all. It is our privilege to be able to offer up a reasonably priced Michigan experience for those new to this wonderful state, as well as those of you who live in or have made Michigan a part of your lives. We love it, and know you will too!

What makes this cabin unique

This place has it all! From the 22' high fireplace to the screened in back porch overlooking the untouched woodland. From the community pool just steps away from the front porch to the 42' plasma TV in the loft. From Goshorn Lake just down the boardwalk to your own private hot tub on the screened in back porch (operational late September through mid-May.) From downtown Saugatuck just a few minutes away to the pristine beaches of Michigan's east coast, Roadside Marker is the place to let your hair down, put your feet up and just be.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a beautiful place to bring our 7 month old on her first vacation. We really appreciate the cleanliness of the cabin, and aside from forgetting to request the “NO Rain Option as part of our package, everything was perfect! Daughter got her 2nd tooth while we were here and caught her first glimpse of beautiful Lake Michigan at the State Park (only 5 minutes away – fantastic!) Even the rain showers and gray sky couldn’t detract from the beauty of the forest and beach – and we were lucky enough to have one perfect, sunny, beautiful fall days before we left. This was our first trip to Saugatuck but definitely won’t be our last!

GREAT EXPERIENCE!!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 1st VRBO, it went SO well. The cabin was very comfortable for our 4 generation group age 13-89, and very clean :) Is there anything worse than walking in and not feeling comfortable because it is gross? We didn't get that feeling at all! The owners were very responsive from booking (thanks for helping us get started w/VRBO) to while on vaca. We cooked most our meals at the cabin for 1 week and the kitchen was well stocked! Our family brought along own crock pot and rolling pin and a picture for water/tea, but all other items we needed were on site. (Note: Douglas' grocery store was very close-we got majority in Holland which was closer to prices we are used to, but Holland road construction was crazy so we picked up as needed items in Douglas.) Our favorite activity was kayaking just down the pier! We have inflatable kayaks we brought along and we LOVED IT! If we ever go back to MI, this is where we will look 1st! This was our 1st non-planned vaca (we didn't have an itinerary) & we found lots to do. We loved Cranes (u-pick [our blueberries made it home great, bring a cooler] & restaurant [Brix cherry cream soda-you can call Brix & pick up cases at their warehouse in Grand Rapids], wine, pie [we had no sugar added-yummy]), Saugatuck Dunes State Park-short hike to a much less crowded beach, Oval Beach, Dunes ride. It was an easy to explore area. We brought along a 2nd TV & prime stick for downstairs (stairs a bit too much for our 4th generation; all necessities on main floor with only a couple stairs into the cabin) & our Wii for upstairs. I even got time for a soak in their amazing tub before coming home. I appreciated the onsite laundry!! We had most of our laundry done going home :) That was a treat! Just a little during our down time. The dryer was squeaky but there is a pocket door. The shopping in Saugatuck was ok... This family vaca was selected for a midwest beach, and we built our vaca around a great cabin to stay in. I am VERY pleased! READ THE FULL INSTRUCTIONS on the fridge upon arrival. They lay things out well. We arrived (road construction) later than we expected & had a difficult time finding the cabin in the dark. Bring a flashlight or something if arriving after dark. Owners, responsiveness, location, things to do, cleanliness, all were a great experience!!!! I can't imagine a group or season that this cabin would not have worked for. We had a response on our deposit within a couple days of returning home! ALL GREAT!

Wonderful! So relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We recently booked this cabin for a long weekend with family and we couldn't have been happier! The cabin was adorable and tucked back in a peaceful quiet location. The layout was perfect and we had more then enough room to hangout and relax. The cabin is also conveniently located close to downtown saugatuk as well as a grocery store and not too far from the wineries. There is also a pool that you have access to which was wonderful on the days it was over 90 degrees! I would definitely stay in this cabin again and would highly recommend it to others! Dorothy was great to work with and was very responsive! Stay here - you will love it!

A very relaxing and beautiful vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for two nights here with 7 of my lady friends for a ladies getaway. It was perfect. The kitchen was well appointed, the beds were all comfortable and the hot tub was just what we all needed. We enjoyed sitting at the big tree stump table and putting together puzzles, coloring, and playing games. I very much recommend this place. Dorothy was very easy to work with!

Treasured family memories

  • 5 of 5

I have rented places on Home Away, but this cabin was exceptional. It was beautiful and very clean. My husband and I and our two daughters spent Christmas week here. We loved every minute of it. The cabin was spacious, with an up to date kitchen. The upstairs bathroom is large with a double sink. We brought a Christmas tree and hung stockings on the fireplace. There was plenty of wood for the fireplace. There was a great sports bar minutes away. Downtown Saugatuck was close by. We were able to go hiking, too! Our family and friends want to stay here after seeing our pictures. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the first snow of the season in this beautiful home. The hot tub was a great way to watch the snowfall and the double wide chair was the perfect place to relax and watch football. Dorothy was terrific to work with and Sagautuck was a delight without crowds!

Welcome to Kingfisher Cove! These awesome cabins share 200 feet of pristine Goshorn Lake frontage with an pier and easy in/out ladder for swimming and non-motorized boats. 17 acres of woods, a private association heated pool, boardwalks, nature trails and Lake Michigan breezes. Kingfisher Cove isn't far from fun either, located just down the road from the Dune Rides, which from all accounts, is a thrilling afternoon! A brief drive (literally a couple of minutes) takes you to Saugatuck Dunes, great hiking and an uncrowded Lake Michigan beach - or if crowds are more your style, we're not far from Oval Beach - just across the bay (rated one of the worlds Top 10 Beaches!) If wineries, lots of galleries and shopping are your thing, there's the terrific Saugatuck/Douglas shopping districts, we're about 15 minutes from downtown Holland (where the New Holland Brewery is located - hey beer lovers!) and Fennville and it's farms and wineries is just a short drive away. Local Brew more to your liking? Check out Saugatuck Brewery! Great beers and food - live music on weekends! Take home a growler or six pack of your favorite. Good to call ahead, they do get busy. Also, Phil's on Butler Street - terrific little restaurant and bar. Great menu! More to do than you can possibly fit into a week - or the best place in Michigan to do nothing at all.

Notes:
Only a couple of minutes from downtown Saugatuck, with galleries, restaurants and shopping, and a hop, skip and a jump away from Saugatuck Dunes State Park with great hiking, unmanicured cross country ski trails and amazing beaches. Saugatuck has been doing some terrific bike and hike trail building along Blue Star, leading to downtown as well as nearby Holland. Bring your bike and check it out! If you're into cross country skiing, the Dunes State Park offers un-groomed trails for a real winter challenge. There are also easier trails at nearby Allegan State Park and Hunting area. Groceries are found both at DeMonds, just over the bay bridge in Douglas, or if you're really stocking up, we recommend the Meijer's up in Holland - about 15 minutes away, everything you could possibly need.
