Love this place...

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying here and it didn't disappoint! We had lots of fun at the cabin - canoing, fishing, enjoying campfires, and just hanging out. We explored Downeast Maine (Roque Bluffs and Acadia/Bar Harbor) and Canada (Campobello and St. Andrews). Eric and Paula are wonderful owners/hosts! We will be back...

Quiet and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

A great, out-of-the-way, retreat, while checking out the nearby tourist destinations. The Reversing Falls, Campobello whale watching, and Becky's lobster rolls, are all within an hour's drive, and were highlights of our trip. We had packed our kayaks, and took the opportunity to paddle around Orange Lake between adventures. Being from the light-polluted, mid-Atlantic region, it was a pleasure to see all of the stars from the front yard. Each morning brought a beautiful sunrise out over the river. Great spot!

Camp with all needed conveniences and privacy in the heart of Downeast

  • 5 of 5

This camp allows for kids to fish off of the dock in the Orange River, or for the family to paddle a mile across Orange Lake, which has very few camps given the entire north shore is conservation land. Quick 30 minute trips to Campobello Island, Lubec, and the Bold Coast Nature Conservancy round out the week nicely. Wifi is available to help you keep up with work if need be. Great place overall.

Perfect cabin for a perfect week in Downeast Maine! It had everything we needed to enjoy a great family week on the lake. We loved canoeing, roasting marshmallows and just exploring Maine. We will definitely be back!

Excellent, quiet get away

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay at Orange Lake. We could have easily stayed another few weeks! It was so quiet and I loved hearing the camp noises at night. We had a great time exploring the immediate area of the camp as well as walking through Lubec, visiting Campobello, East Quoddy, and the numerous trails around the ocean. We were in the area for the Bay of Fundy races, but we are looking at coming back just for fun. We ALMOST finished the 1000 piece puzzle. That was a huge challenge with our 4 kids helping on cool nights. Eric was very helpful and it was nice to see him both at the camp and after the race! Wonderful location, excellent laundry (full size laundry!) and WiFi. A great vacation!

About Eric Holm

Hi and thank you for your interest in our vacation rental. I am a self-employed timber framer and cabinet maker located in beautiful Machias, Maine. My wife and I purchased this property because of its peaceful location and because we love being on fresh water. I built the camp on nights and weekends over the course of 2 1/2 years and completed it in 2008. My wife, Paula deserves as much credit (and more!) for its completion because she was home with the kids while I got to spend time on site building. It is all hand joinery post and beam construction with many rustic touches. We spend as much time out there as possible with our children and other friends because it is a safe place for kids and pets with no traffic and provides lots of outdoor recreation. We love sharing it other families that want to experience Downeast Maine and all it has to offer.

Eric Holm purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Eric Holm chose Whiting

My wife and I settled in Downeast Maine in 2001 after working overseas and traveling the world for many years because we saw this area as a wonderful area to raise our children with many opportunities for outdoor recreation. It is an hour's drive to a stoplight and a pair of new underwear but we are surrounded by an excellent community.

What makes this cabin unique

In Downest Maine we have the benefits of both salt and fresh water activities. We have forests and streams that are clean and hiking trails that you can walk for miles and never see another soul. It is a small but tight community that takes pride in what we have here. The community spirit is active with an outlook to the future to enhance what we have and share it with others.
