About Eric Holm

Hi and thank you for your interest in our vacation rental. I am a self-employed timber framer and cabinet maker located in beautiful Machias, Maine. My wife and I purchased this property because of its peaceful location and because we love being on fresh water. I built the camp on nights and weekends over the course of 2 1/2 years and completed it in 2008. My wife, Paula deserves as much credit (and more!) for its completion because she was home with the kids while I got to spend time on site building. It is all hand joinery post and beam construction with many rustic touches. We spend as much time out there as possible with our children and other friends because it is a safe place for kids and pets with no traffic and provides lots of outdoor recreation. We love sharing it other families that want to experience Downeast Maine and all it has to offer.

Eric Holm purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Eric Holm chose Downeast and Acadia

My wife and I settled in Downeast Maine in 2001 after working overseas and traveling the world for many years because we saw this area as a wonderful area to raise our children with many opportunities for outdoor recreation. It is an hour's drive to a stoplight and a pair of new underwear but we are surrounded by an excellent community.

What makes this cabin unique

In Downest Maine we have the benefits of both salt and fresh water activities. We have forests and streams that are clean and hiking trails that you can walk for miles and never see another soul. It is a small but tight community that takes pride in what we have here. The community spirit is active with an outlook to the future to enhance what we have and share it with others.

Perfect cabin for a perfect week in Downeast Maine! It had everything we needed to enjoy a great family week on the lake. We loved canoeing, roasting marshmallows and just exploring Maine. We will definitely be back!

Excellent, quiet get away

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay at Orange Lake. We could have easily stayed another few weeks! It was so quiet and I loved hearing the camp noises at night. We had a great time exploring the immediate area of the camp as well as walking through Lubec, visiting Campobello, East Quoddy, and the numerous trails around the ocean. We were in the area for the Bay of Fundy races, but we are looking at coming back just for fun. We ALMOST finished the 1000 piece puzzle. That was a huge challenge with our 4 kids helping on cool nights. Eric was very helpful and it was nice to see him both at the camp and after the race! Wonderful location, excellent laundry (full size laundry!) and WiFi. A great vacation!

beautiful place to get away from it all!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my wife made the long drive up to this beautiful home labor day weekend and we both wish we had planned to stay a few days longer. The house was beautiful and very well taken care of. The property was very clean and all amenities functioned %100. We loved that other than our trip into Machias to pickup food we did not see another person the whole weekend. We spent most of the day either relaxing on the front porch or the dock. Our dogs could not get enough of swimming around their dock! i think they would have preferred to stay there! every comfort of home was available at the house. Air conditioning and heat, internet, cable, washer dryer, grill...... it was all there and more.

we would both highly recommend this beautiful property to anyone and would love to visit again!

thanks again to Eric and Paula!

Best Maria, George and the pups!

Wonderful, peaceful vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

My three children and I just got back from a week at this beautiful home. I didn't want to ever leave. It is so peaceful and relaxing there. The house itself is exactly as represented on the website. It is beautifully constructed and very clean! The kitchen has everything you could think of that you might need when cooking. The bathroom has a washer and dryer which I really appreciate having on vacation. I loved the clothesline outside too! It was so wonderful waking up in the morning and looking outside at the river. I would sit on the front porch with my coffee and you can't see or hear any other people. Pure bliss! The river and lake are beautiful. We enjoyed canoeing and kayaking. It is calm enough that my 10 year old daughter was able to kayak on her own with us next to her in the canoe. She thought that was the best! We went to Quoddy Head State Park which has amazing scenery and views. Lubec was a fun town to explore and we recommend Becky's Seafood in Lubec. It's a food cart on the owner's property, right next to their house. It doesn't look like much but the fish and chips are so good! We went back a second time. We also went to Reversing Falls in Pembroke which the kids thought was very cool. This was just a great vacation where I got to relax and reconnect with my children. They are 17, 14, and 10 and they actually spent time playing board games together which I haven't seen them do in a long time. Thank you Eric and Paula for this beautiful rental property!

Wonderful hidden wilderness gem

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying here. We love the house and property. It's a charming, cozy little house, right on the river which feeds into the lake. You immediately feel at home and the owners are warm, lovely people who were very helpful and welcoming via phone and email. We enjoyed many hours kayaking and canoeing on the lake and rainy days snuggled inside with a cup of coffee and a book or playing board games with our kids. This is a beautiful, wild area of Maine with incredible coastal hikes and rugged ocean border towns with rich fascinating histories. We loved exploring Lubec and The pirate festival in Eastport and we even did a day trip to Acadia. Great getaway place! Perfect place to hideout from the world and relax with your family. Highly recommend! We'll be back again :)

I could not be more appreciative of Eric, Paula and their family and for creating this AMAZING place. I had a really rough start this year, day one and two of my vacation. This family turned it all around -

The house was exactly, as was stated. The clarity of these two in renting their property A PLEASURE to deal with. Eric you must be one of the most laid back people I have ever dealt with, your directness made it all so simple and a true pleasure. You delivered exactly what you sold. That is integrity.

The house is really well located for all hiking trails, restaurants, Campobello - Again made it so easy to take off for the day and see and do so much without spending hrs. on the road.

The house is so well equipped and super clean. I am a caterer and chef. Stove works awesome!!! Gas!!! Everything worked awesome!!! Made it soooooo enjoyable to even cook on vacation!! Nothing is better than to get some fresh fish or shell fish from Becky's and some pie from Helens - make a salad - your done.

The attention to detail from Both Eric and Paula made this house such a pleasure for all of us - backgammon anyone.....????

THE DECOR IS FANTASTIC!! Again, so full of expression and comfort - it makes it feel like you just put on a great pair of slippers when you walk into this house ..........HOME AT LAST!!Even the dogs were so at ease and relaxed in this space- Because they had space!!

My dog is having a tough time adjusting to the return - guess she misses all that natural nightlife going on in the woods, or sleeping on that porch in the afternoon or that lawn that goes down to the dock.......great yoga space down there on the dock in the afternoon sun or morning mist - - bring your mat if you are so inclined.

Eric, Paula and Family -

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!! Hope to return......

Be Well!! - Patricia, Cookie, Sean, Rachael and Finn
