Gehlberg is a quiet village (about 700 inhabitants) on a hillside with its own train station (line Erfurt - Meiningen), well-kept restaurants and (almost) everything that the tourist needs for his daily needs. The glass museum with regular shows and the poaching museum tell something about the history of the place.
The house can be reached by public transport. You can easily reach Erfurt, with its historic old town, Meiningen, Eisenach, the birthplace of Johann Seb. Bach, the winter sports town Oberhof and Suhl with its toy museum. By car, the range of visitors to the university town of Ilmenau, Zella-Mehlis, the classic city of Weimar with famous attractions of the poet princes Goethe and Schiller and many other small places, z. Ski: The area is good for cross-country skiing. There is a cross-country trail just 200 meters away. From here you can reach one of the most beautiful trails in Germany around the Schneekopf. With 'fast skis' you can also do a day trip to Oberhof and back.
