We were looking for a home away from home for us to share with my brother's family who live in Los Angeles. We now live in Atlanta and we wanted access to snow and cooler summers! We always loved the West Coast and with one family member already living in Hood River this was the perfect place!
Claudia purchased this House in 2008
Why Claudia chose Hood River County
We were looking for a vacation home on the West Coast in beautiful country but not too far from a city. After reading about it in the book, '1,000 Places To See Before You Die' we were convinced this was for us with its waterfalls, skiing, hiking and wineries. And its proximity to Portland, one of my favorite cities. The town of Hood River is just the right size with with plenty to offer.
What makes this House unique
We love the modern open plan of the house including an airy lower level with a second deck for kids and adult activities. The location is just outside of the town on a lovely country road that is great for walking and even cross country skiing. We also like to cook and eat great food, all available in Hood River at their Farmers Market and restaurants. We are wine lovers and my husband will be happy to map out a wine tasting tour. We have employed a professional rental manager, a long time resident, who will take care of all of your needs including your reservation, discounts to attractions etc.

Serene and Relaxing
We've rented different houses in the Hood River/Gorge area for 25 years now and this house is one of our favorites. It's out of the way, but still close to town. The breeze through the tall pines is hypnotic. It's light filled, cool on warm days, and perfectly serene. The amenities of the house are simple and just all you need. We really appreciated the first floor bedroom. My only suggestion is to put the washer and dryer in the same room. Otherwise, it was just a perfect vacation for our family and we hope to be back again next year!! thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. Glad you enjoyed your stay!
Spacious house in quiet location with great views
Even with a party of 9 this house felt spacious. We particularly appreciated the beautiful views and the well-equipped kitchen.
The location is perfect: conveniently near Hood River, but off the main highway in the forested hills overlooking the orchards.
So glad you enjoyed our home away from home!
Happy Winter Days
Wonderful home, great views. Well stocked, comfy beds. Wish the Mt hood christmas train hadn’t derailed as that was the focal point of our trip and we were unable to do that. Otherwise great home.
Clean, bright, quiet and well supplied vacation home!
Very quiet and peaceful place to stay. The pictures and discription are very accurate. The home is located in an area with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us!
Thank you for reviewing us.
We stayed in this home for our 25th anniversary & it was spectacular!!! Our family had a great time. There were just a few of the same complaints from everyone. Every one of the showers have very low shower heads. The WiFi was very slow once everyone connected their electronics. There are no TV's in any of the bedrooms. Ordinarily that wouldn't be a problem because we would normally watch something on the laptop when in the bedroom but when we tried doing that but the WiFi was too slow it kept freezing up. Other than that this is a fantastic place!!!
I am glad you enjoyed our home. And yes, the view is spectacular!
And thanks for letting us know how we can improve the experience for future guests. We can certainly add TVs to the rooms. As far as the WiFi, we have contacted our service provider about that and I believe they are working on an upgrade.
Hope you will stay at our home again!

We were thrilled with this beautiful retreat.
Our family of 8 adults and 2 toddlers stayed at Fir Mountain Retreat from 10/3-10/7/2013. I cannot overstate what a beautiful property it is nor how well it worked for our family. There was nothing we could have needed that wasn't available. The space was so comfortable, the views outstanding...it really is a little piece of heaven. Two of the bedrooms have separated spaces so that the toddlers didn't have to sleep with their parents...a huge plus. The woodburning stove was wonderful to take the chill out of the air and gated off safely from the children. Two mornings we were treated to 18 deer moseying up the hill. If we are lucky enough to visit Hood River again, we wouldn't stay anywhere else.
