Our home is located on beautiful Sulphurous Lake in the South Cariboo region of British Columbia. Sulphurous Lake derives its name from its first discovery by explorers, who mistook the pollen on the lake as sulphur….there is also an underwater island near the southwest end of the lake that adds to this myth as it appears to be light in colour, its peak being only 18 inches below the water line. There is no sulphur in the lake just crystal clear, natural water.
Our home is situated on a half-acre south facing lot with 100’ of waterfront. It is a fully equipped family home with three bedrooms(each with a queen size bed), two bathrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen. There are also laundry facilities.
At the rear of the home, facing the lake, is our large deck complete with tables, chairs, umbrella & canopy. Directly below the deck is a large grassed and landscaped yard with a fully equipped playground for young children and a bunk house for older children. Down from there is our fire pit area leading to the dock. Access to the lake is on either side of the dock via a clear sand & pebbled bottom. The lake is shallow to about the end of the dock where it then begins to descend to deeper water.
Sulphurous is unique in that there are only homes located on the north side of the lake with all having beautiful southerly views across to untouched Crown land. Fishing is the biggest past time on the lake, however, water skiing and tubing are popular as well. Several residents have fashioned barges that they cruise the lake with, making for a very relaxing day. Early morning and late afternoon canoe trips can allow you to experience the ever present wildlife in the quieter times of the day. Kayaking and paddle boarding are also very popular. Please feel free to bring your own water sport equipment, as there is easy access from the property for all non-motorized craft. There is a boat launch located approximately one kilometer from the Lakehouse for those who wish to bring their own boats.
We are conveniently located 10 minutes from the Interlakes area where there are several stores including groceries, hardware, and a restaurant.
We rent our home out weekly, Saturday to Saturday, with some exceptions during non-peak periods. Please refer to availability and calendar below.
Please don’t hestitate to contact the owners should you have any further questions. We look forward to hearing from you.
Linda and Doug
We stayed here for a week last year and our kids still talk about it and want to go back. It's such a beautiful private place. A little retreat. Linda was amazing to deal with and we would go back in a heartbeat. The house was great but we spent most of our time outside.
We stayed at Linda & Doug's beautiful lakeside house for a week this summer. It was everything we were hoping for in a north country get away. The house was immaculate and tastefully decorated and furnished. 3 bedrooms, the master looking onto the lake. 2 full bathrooms all impeccable. Even a laundry room. The kitchen large and fully equipped, new appliances and BBQ, even a separate beverage fridge. The living room was so nice to relax in the evening with cozy couches, wide screen TV and even a fair library of DVDs. We were surprised to see a treehouse with bunkbeds and a little playground with swings and climbing area on the back lawn of the property. Would be great for younger kids. The lake - what can I say, tranquil, crystal clear and warm enough for swimming (20-24C). We were in and out of the lake all day off the dock. Very little boat traffic. Very peaceful, except for the occasional boat, all you hear most of the time is loons. 100 Mile House is a short drive (20 minutes on paved roads) to get groceries or supplies. We didn't have much luck with fishing but the lake is well stocked with rainbow trout and has also lake trout and char. Opportunities for day drips within an hour - hiking and biking but we liked the location so much we mainly just hung out at the lake house. Linda was a pleasure to deal with - very organized and welcoming. We highly recommend this as a vacation location in the South Cariboo.
This place exceeded my expectations! The home was clean and well maintained, it had more than enough supplies (kitchen utilities, condiments, fire wood, board games, etc) that next time we would pack half as much stuff. It's a great place to relax and is perfect for kids. The kids (all under 10) had the best time playing on the play ground, fishing, catching tad poles, swimming, and roasting marshmallows by the campfire. Sulphurous lake is short drive to other fishing lakes if you need a change in scenery. This was the perfect getaway for our entire family and is close enough to home. We plan to make this an annual vacation spot. We were there in July with temperatures reaching low 30s, the lake was the right temperature for swimming but may have been too warm for trout fishing. It would have been a bonus to have a/c but the ceilings fans worked just fine. The master bedroom lacked some window curtains which brought in a lot of light and heat during the days. The bunkhouse was nice but had a broken window that could use some fixing to prevent bugs from entering. Aside from those minor imperfections, I would recommend this place to anyone.
This definitely a lake house - well stocked, comfortable, easy to stay in. The lake is crystal clear and very quiet. Wonderful to kayak on or just hang out swimming, jumping off the dock or floating on an air mattress (which we brought). The pictures really do reflect the house and it was clean and well maintained. This property is only a 10 minute drive to the local stores and 100 Mile House is only about 20 minutes away - which has groceries etc.
We would definitely recommend staying here.
Family of four stayed summer 2010 for a week. lake is crystal clear and very warm. swam, water skied and just relaxed. The cabin is very well set up and comfortable. It is better than advertised and the detailes from the owner made the stay perfect. The local boat launch is a tad difficult but we did manage to launch and retreive with no issues. Friendly ducks, a fox family and a couple deer all made the stay even more enjoyable. We would go back and would recommend to anyone interested.
