This is a very "clean & comfortable" vacation home, accurately described and in a superb location to anything you might want to do or see in RI. Ted, the owner, is a very gracious host and made sure we had "everything" we needed at our fingertips! Bedding was very comfortable and home is located in a very quiet area! We would stay again without a doubt - just love the area!!!

A very relaxing stay with a special touch.

We were a party of 7 in need of a mid-week short-term rental to attend a wedding in the height of the tourist season and Ted delivered a homerun. Ted provided plenty of details about the property and surrounding area and was readily available for follow-up questions. The house was clean and air conditioned, the beds were comfortable, there was ample parking, and lots of peace and quiet. The Westerly beaches are 5 minutes from the house and Dunns Corner market is a 2 minute drive.

The view of the salt pond was spectacular and we even had a hummingbird flutter in front of us while we had our morning coffee on the deck. We did not bring a kayak but we could have easily launched one from the dock. I used my entire tackle box on the school of fish that swam in and out with the tide-the fish won, but it was fun.

The only concern I had before arrival was the number of steps into the house as a member of my party could not climb too many stairs. Ted assured me that there were only 2 stairs with a double railing from the garage to the house and this was the case. A few days after this conversation Ted called me and said that he installed hand rails in the shower and near the toilet. I did not request this added accommodation but it was greatly appreciated and made a significant difference in the enjoyment of the weekend for my relative. Thank you Ted, and I would rent your house again.

Owner's Response: The party above are among the nicest people who ever rented from me. I am grateful for the review and I am happy to have added the railings. BTW, these folks left the house nearly spotless and did all the laundry. Far and away above the call of duty. I'd rent to them again anytime.

Great views but be prepared to clean

The house and property have great views of the salt pond and out to the ocean. However the grass needed cutting as well as the foliage on either side of the driveway (so much so that it "polished" the sides of my car as I drove down it).

We spent a few hours cleaning the house after we first arrived. The refrigerator shelves, countertops, floors, etc really needed a thorough cleaning before we were comfortable using. We even cleaned the ceiling fan blades in one room (the children's room) as they were coated in thick dust.

We left the house far cleaner than when we arrived.

I documented in pictures the results of our cleaning efforts as backup should there be any doubts.

Owner's Response: This is kind of funny. Clearly the guests got carried away. They re-cleaned stuff that I had cleaned prior to their arrival despite my offer to do it over for them. Except for the kitchen and bathroom floors they did leave the house in pretty good shape however. I clean the ceiling fans regularly, and I do not recall any dust on them. I wish they'd send me their pictures. As for the foliage next to the driveway, I am of two minds. One is that the foliage belongs not to me but to my adjacent neighbors, who do not always allow me to cut it. However, I'd have done so under the radar had I been asked. I was not asked. I have a couple of minor complaints about the guest. She moved stuff around, including the vacuum cleaner hose, so that I had to spend a couple of hours looking for it on my return. She also failed, despite my request, to close the water valves to the washing machine after using it. I don't appreciate the complaints about the lawn. I offered to mow it but I was turned down. It was not excessively tall, but since we had had a lot of rain it had grown during the previous week. While I am no Oscar Madison, she certainly is a Felix Unger. And at no time did I refuse to do anything. To fellow owners: Be prepared for this tenant to tell you to your face, to the point of rudeness, her opinions of your property. And be prepared for not doing things that you have not been asked to do or offered to do and were refused.

Once again - a wonderful stay!

I have stayed at Ted's at least once every summer. I love this house! It was clean upon check in, and of course, everything that we needed was supplied. I love having coffee on the deck in the morning, and Ted is an absolute gem to deal with. Whatever I needed, all I had to do was ask. The beds are comfortable, and there's classic books to read and classic movies to watch, if you're so inclined to do so. We did a little fishing off the dock (but the fish didn't cooperate), and it was a truly relaxed time. I highly recommend this place!

Awful Experience

We arrived at check-in time of 4pm in May, 2016 and the owner met us wearing only a bathrobe. He stated he was still cleaning the house. He gave us a tour. The house was filthy. The deck is in disrepair, the lawn was very high, the Christmas trees very still in the living room. The house smells like dirty fried food. There's duct tape holding the electrical wires together. The owner told us he would keep cleaning and we should come back in an hour. We returned 4 hours later and it was just as bad. Little boy's underwear on the floor, thick dust, white ashes on the night stands, hair on bathroom floor and shower stalls, clogged kitchen sink trap. The owner said if we wanted him to come back, he would come in the middle of the week to clean and mow. We attempted to make the best of it until we saw bugs in the house. We packed up and left at 5am the next morning. The owner refused to give us a refund and is not taking our calls. would not get involved. VERY VERY disappointed and sad. This was to be our honeymoon. Glad we took pictures because no one believed it until we showed them the pictures.

Owner's Response: Advice to all owners. This is an example of a review that is full of lies. The tenant is demanding a full refund after staying overnight at the house. It's a shakedown. A complaint was filed with HomeAway by the tenant. It was totally bogus. I responded to the complaint and HomeAway resolved it in my favor in ten minutes. Ted's place is a little slice of New England paradise nestled away in lovely Westerly, RI. In addition to the stellar accommodations, Ted was absolutely delightful. Ted was helpful and nice upon arrival, but more notable was what a truly great soul he possessed. Before leaving us to our majestic waterfront retreat Ted regaled us with stories and fascinating facts that truly added to our experience. I cannot recommend a stay at Ted's more highly. Worst case -you get a wonderful vacation; best case - you make a life long friend you can share memories with. Thanks again Ted for everything, cheers to you! Ted

This house is a dump

Do not ever rent this property .The boat dock cannot be used. There are no kayaks or paddle boats as promised . The house is held together by duck tape posted notes and electrical extension cords. It is so filthy dirty !!!! The furniture is torn and so uncomfortable. The TV provided is analog and can barely be viewed. The supposed finished basement is the scariest place i have been in .I have a mind to notify the board of health and building inspector for the town of westerly. The location is only good if you can use the boat dock otherwise it is horrible

Owner's Response: Fellow owners, if you value your property, do not ever rent to this person or her family. Everything in the review save one item is untrue. The dock and boat slip are fine. The house was given to the tenant spotless. No kayaks or paddle boats were promised. A canoe was advertised, but a previous tenant had disposed of it a few weeks earlier. Subsequent tenants were informed. No finished basement is advertised. The only finished room in the cellar is the second bathroom. The TVs are connected to Verizon FiOS and get about 200 channels, all of good quality. One of them is older and needs a few minutes to warm up. I offered to install a newer one on the tenant's arrival but was told not to worry. The house is structurally sound, safe, and clean. The insurance inspector who visited less than a year ago would not have approved the policy otherwise. Post-it notes indicate where stuff is for the tenants' convenience. This party tried to shake me down for a rebate in excess of one third of the rental on the fourth day of their stay. I refused. I was threatened that my antique cars would be hauled away from my garage if I did not comply. I pointed out that doing so is a criminal act and that my insurance company would surely launch a criminal investigation as soon as I filed a claim for theft. The party left the house in deplorable condition. There was beach sand all over the kitchen and living room. Some beach chairs were stacked against a full-length glass window on the deck, a pile of used bath towels was on the living room floor, dried leaves were all over the floor of the downstairs bathroom, and there was so much trash that I had to make five trips to the recycling place to get rid of it -- three of them mid-stay. The tenant had told me that there would be one dog. I found two. My cars had been tampered with, and I found the house short half-a-dozen beach towels. Furniture had been moved from room to room. Some stuff in the garage that is not for tenants' use had been left outdoors. The cellar, except for the laundry, the bathroom and the circuit breakers, is off limits. That is in the rental paperwork, which, also says no refunds except for Act of God. The garage is off limits except for parking. There is room for more than six cars. I have only two there. Power strips with circuit breakers protect appliances from electrical storms. The sole speck of truth is that one stick of furniture has a tear. I plan on a slipcover.
