About the property

Frommer's & HomeAway chose Brambleberry as their signature wine country property

Brambleberry is a luxurious and private 3+ acre gated estate in the heart of Sonoma’s quintessential Valley of the Moon wine country, surrounded by vineyards, near renowned wineries and wonderfully located for touring Northern California's wine country.

Selected May 2017 by HomeAway and Frommer's as their signature wine country property for Frommer's worldwide 60th Anniversary promotion - see and

Brambleberry was earlier featured in Travel + Leisure, whose writer chose to reside there exclusively during his county-wide tour.

Now in our 11th rental season, we've hosted over 300 vacation rentals and had many repeat guests. We commonly hear that Brambleberry is even more stunning than our photos suggest! For additional photos and information, please look on the web under WineCountryHouse. Upon request we act as virtual concierge to our guests, providing recommendations on wineries, restaurants, shopping and local attractions.

From its serene setting to its traditional house, Brambleberry distinctively combines authentic wine-country and farm aesthetics. Blackberries (great for picking) abound in wild brambles. Majestic oaks and redwoods, a seasonal creek and a seasonal pond, all on level grounds, create a park-like setting. Private and quiet, yet conveniently located, the traditional farmhouse-style home is set well back and reached by a long, tree-lined driveway. A wraparound veranda lined with mature wisteria provides a cooling retreat from summer heat. Take in pristine views of nearby Sugarloaf, the landmark Sonoma Valley peak, while luxuriating in the heated pool or custom spa.

The 2600+ sq ft home has been exquisitely updated with attention to its vintage style, with high ceilings and high-end fixtures and appointments. The comfortable furniture includes antique and period pieces. Antique prints and paintings and unique handcrafted treasures echo Brambleberry's vintage aesthetic. Brambleberry is fully handicapped accessible and has access ramps, an elevator and an accessible full bath.

Serious and casual chefs alike will delight in the large designer kitchen, featured in Better Homes and Gardens. Its dining nook seats 10 and overlooks the pool. Luxury appliances, including a massive Wolfe six-burner range and oven and Thermador convection oven, are complemented by granite counter tops, a marble baker’s counter, a center island ideal for gourmet meal preparation and high-end cookware and dishware. Adjoining the kitchen, the formal dining room has a beautiful trestle table and an office area overlooking the pool. Keep in touch with high speed internet/Wi-Fi, guest computer and printer/copier/scanner/fax. From the dining room enter the large, inviting living/family room with fireplace of local fieldstone and 60" plasma TV. When it’s cool, luxuriate before a roaring wood fire. Step outside to the wraparound veranda furnished with rocking chairs and vintage wicker and bistro seating. Also on the ground floor are a den, two half bathrooms and a large finished mudroom/laundry room with easy access to the pool, spa and bocce court.

Brambleberry can sleep up to 10. Large groups ideally include small children and not more than seven adults. Upstairs are three spacious bedrooms, all with views. The master has a king and a twin, one guest room sleeps four with a queen and trundle bed and the second guest room has a queen. Downstairs, the den sleeps two with a trundle sleigh bed and sliding doors for privacy. The master bath has a large stall shower and a freestanding clawfoot bathtub. The guest bath has a shower-tub combination.

The beautiful estate-size pool has salt chlorination and a recessed safety cover that keeps it clean and warm. Solar pool heat can be supplemented by gas heat in cooler months. After a swim, enjoy a warm shower in the outdoor changing room. A large custom stone spa is inviting year-round. The large bocce court with premium Har-Tru surface provides hours of fun for all ages. Comfortable outdoor seating on the patio and pool deck, extensive lawns and mature shade trees create the perfect setting for outdoor dining and relaxation.

Brambleberry is fully equipped for young children, including two Pack 'n Plays, high chair, stroller and baby monitors. A full collection of ride-on toys and wagons is available. Other amenities include two-zone central air and heat, water purification system, double-paned windows for warmth, security system, high-speed internet and Wi-Fi, three TV's (including 60” plasma HDTV) on cable with DVD/VCR, gas grill, croquet, horseshoes, bocce ball, ping pong and basketball.

So as not to disturb our neighbors and to comply with the local vacation rental ordinance, we don't allow on-site events, oversized rental parties or heavy entertaining. By prior arrangement, day visitors may be considered.

Brambleberry’s sophisticated interior appeals to discerning adults while its magical outdoors is a paradise for children of all ages. Brambleberry is a luxury retreat that will be part of many happy memories.

About The Owner

Rob and Kathleen live in San Francisco with their two children. Kathleen is a native San Franciscan and Rob has lived in the City over 25 years. Following his dream to come to California, Rob, who grew up in Pennsylvania and went to college in New England, came West for graduate school (at Stanford) and has remained in California since. He met Kathleen shortly after moving to San Francisco.

The Owner purchased this estate in 2005

Why The Owner chose Kenwood

Growing up in foggy San Francisco, Kathleen's lifelong dream was to have a sunny getaway in the wine country. We looked at a lot of beautiful homes but fell in love with Brambleberry for its compelling setting and absolutely distinctive farmhouse aesthetic. We are fortunate to be able now to call it ours.

Kenwood is a delightful small town in the heart of "the real wine country", the Valley of the Moon in Sonoma Valley. It is convenient to everything the wine country visitor might want.

We spend a lot of our free time improving and maintaining Brambleberry, a true labor of love! We take great delight in hosting our vacation-rental guests and sharing our favorite local tips with them.

What makes this estate unique

Brambleberry has it all: location, serenity, privacy, luxury and comfort! Many if not most guests don't want to leave Brambleberry during their stay! This is our family's second home and we have appointed it to a very high standard.

Brambleberry Getaway in Kenwood

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful, long weekend at Brambleberry. There was a total of 4 adults and (2) sets of kids ages 5 and 8 in our party. The house and grounds were so amazing that we really didn't need to leave the property, but local amenities were all nearby including Annadale Start Park for a morning hike (we walked there with the kids), Safeway for late night emergencies, wine tasting and kid friendly dining (although Sonoma county is known to have many fine dining options).

The house was very comfortable (especially the beds), and well stocked from the kitchen items to the pool toys. We tried to get the kids to sleep together, and there was plenty of room for musical beds at night. We all enjoyed the pool in the mornings and afternoons, as well as the rest of the property for biking, soccer, baseball, and basketball to lying in the hammock and swinging on the swings. There was plenty for the kids to do, which makes for a very enjoyable time for the adults. The moms were able to duck out for a Sonoma Mission Inn spa excursion (5 hours, not that anyone was keeping track...but the dads).

The communication with the owners before, during and after our stay was great. They were very accommodating to our needs, and provided excellent local recommendations. We would definitely recommend this home to others, and we hope to come back again soon. Brambleberry is a true home away from home.

Fantastic Family Time

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Brambleberry and certainly plan on returning to this gem for more family fun in this beautiful country escape. The kids were thrilled to run around the huge yard, swing in the hammock and tree swing, play bocci and splash around the pool all afternoon. The adults were thrilled to enjoy happy kids all weekend, kick back in the rocking chairs on porch, sip wine to a beautiful sunset, enjoy views of green all around and vineyards, prepare a fun family meal in the lovely and spacious kitchen and be surrounded by so much beauty inside and outside this lovely home. It had so much east coast charm and west coast heart. And to top it all off Kathleen was absolutely wonderful and took care of everything so smoothly and kindly. Two thumbs way up!

Idyllic, peaceful country retreat in Kenwood

  • 5 of 5

Brambleberry is a lovely home in a gorgeous setting. Well equipped and full of thoughtful touches, Brambleberry makes a wonderful retreat. Our children enjoyed roaming free, racing plasma cars and playing ping pong. We all enjoyed rocking on the swings on the wraparound porch, dozing in the hammock at sunset and feasting on views of the hills from the pool. There are many lovely seating areas indoors and out allowing for places to escape and to gather. The bedrooms are well appointed and set up to flexibly accommodate families. Kathleen was amazingly thoughtful and attentive, from leaving age appropriate toys out for our children to ensuring the pool would be the perfect temperature for our early morning swimmers. We had an urgent situation emerge during our stay unrelated to the property and Kathleen went above and beyond to help.

We hope to visit again!

Wonderful House for Kids of all Ages!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Brambleberry for the second year in a row with three generations. It's a wonderfully comfortable and well-equipped home with plenty of space to gather together or to get off by yourself to read or take a nap. The big kitchen table promotes extended meals, and the large shaded porch, pool and bocce court make for plenty of outdoor time. There is much to do within a half hour for all ages -- from wine tasting (a walk to a neighboring winery was a highlight) to hiking in beautiful state parks to playgrounds and attractions like "train town" for the little ones. I would absolutely recommend a stay at Brambleberry.

A beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

This Kenwood property was fabulous. Very quiet, serene, and beautiful outdoor areas to take in the mountains and vineyards. We had every room occupied and still had plenty of space and Kathleen was wonderful to work with. She offered a very thorough walk-thru when we arrived, was available for any concerns or questions, with a quick response and offered lots of towels, paper products, coffee, laundry and access to so many amenities of the house. The only items that were a bit different were the showers and how to access the hot water. Every shower eventually got hot water, but it would come and go during your shower so you had to adjust from too hot to too cold numerous times. However, I would highly recommend a stay at Brambleberry. I will definitely return.

Relaxing weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Brambleberry was the perfect location to spend my birthday weekend in! Location, space, amenities, and hospitality are the reasons why I am giving this a 5 star review!

Only less than two hours away from SF, Brambleberry makes it feel like you are in an entirely different country. Kenwood is such a small picturesque town with beautiful vineyards, restaurants, and market places nearby. Only about a 15-20 mins drive from Napa or Santa Rosa but definitely less "touristy" and quiet. The house itself is located in a quiet private residential neighborhood so all you hear throughout the night are crickets. On the last night we were there, a vineyard couple doors down was hosting a wedding reception and though you could faintly hear the music from the backyard, it was quiet right at 10pm so neighbors are respectful - and in turn, so should you. (Not a home you'd throw big and loud parties in!)

We were 7 adults and had a lot of space to roam around and not feel crowded. Bedrooms were spacious and some had an extra bed inside. We had my kids and in-laws on Saturday but even then, the kids had plenty of space to run around and explore.

Pool, grill, AMAZING KITCHEN, bocce court, basketball court, ping pong table, hammock, games, and oh my goodness, a wall full of BOOKS in the living room - just some of the amenities this home has to offer. We spent three days there but felt it wasn't enough to fully take advantage of the house. My husband even joked around saying it probably has the same, if not more, amenities than a five star hotel without the crowd - and I totally agree with him!

Kathleen was a wonderful host. She gave thorough instructions on how to "navigate" around the house and gave wonderful suggestions on what to do during our stay. I made it a point to let her know my itinerary out of courtesy and glad I did cause she gave us a couple of suggestions on where to go (spa, vineyards, restaurants) based off of my original plans and glad we went with hers. I've stayed in numerous airbnbs/vrbo rentals before and she was the only host to personally email me back thanking us for staying and asking how our time was spent. She also let me know we left a camera charger in the kitchen (I love that she was there during checkout and really made sure we didn't leave anything behind) and is gracious enough to mail it back to us.

Thank you for a wonderful stay! We look forward to coming back again real soon!
