The Warfendorf Upleward made international headlines some years ago with the planning and construction of a beach without sea. Media representatives said this backdrop planned sports and sports facilities as a so-called "dry beach". An "invention", which was probably only possible in East Frisia. Today this approximately 1 ha large recreation area with beach baskets, 2 beach volleyball courts, barbecue and an adventure playground is a popular excursion location for young families.
There are also events such as the traditional Drachenfast, the beach soccer tournament and, for a number of years, the annual famous Schlickschlitten race "Waltenmeisterschaft" in Uplewarder Watt. In addition, the Uplewarder Trockenstrand is also the meeting place for the mudflats.
