This is a self contained open plan, 1 bedroom bungalow.

Casa Caracola is situated within a stunning beach front lot. To the front, there is direct access to the beautiful golden sands of Cocles Beach. It is surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife. About Sophie

Relaxing in a beautiful spot on the beach.

Costa Rica is a beautiful place and it will capture your hearts.

Why Sophie chose Limon Province

Costa Rica offers a wide variety of spectacular terrain , animals and plants. With its unique location it boasts both Pacific and Caribbean coast lines. The Caribbean Coast offers a more relaxed friendly holiday with the added excitement of some extreme sports, for those who want to venture away from the delicious local food, drinks and beach. There are many reasons why Puerto Viejo is known as the most happening town on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. There is so much to see and do here, but far and away the overall vibe here is the 'pura vida' that Costa Rica is so famous for. So whether you come to relax under the palms on one of Puerto Viejo's beautiful beaches or try and tackle the surf at Salsa Brava (just 100 yards away) or Cocles, there is also great snorkeling and diving in the areas active coral reefs. Or how would you like to hike and bike through the jungle? There is also excellent white-water rafting in the area. It is all possible here. Puerto Viejo is also conveniently nestled between two of the area's most beautiful national parks where white-faced and howler monkeys, toucans and sloths abound. You will also want to come just to sample some of the area's famous dishes like the Caribbean-style rice and beans made with coconut and many other exquisite varieties of food in this little village.

What makes this cabin unique

Cocles Beach is the winner of the highly coveted Costa Rican government Blue Flag for pristine beach and is the only lifeguard-protected beach on the Caribbean Coast. The golden sands meet the warm Caribbean ocean and from the beach no buildings are visible. This beach has both great surfing at one end and safe swimming for families with children at the other. Please note that the route to the beach from the beach gate goes through a small strip of jungle (about 10 metres in width). This is national park and therefore cannot be cleared, so at times it can be over grown. If guests have mobility issues, the beach can be easily accessed from the main house gate, where the beach can be reached by just a short two minute walk along a small lane.

Fantastic bungalow on every level

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I fell in love with Casa Caracola the moment we saw it! A lot of thought and love clearly went into designing and goes into maintaining this beautiful property. The clean and well-equipped space feels very large because of the unenclosed floor plan. Not only are the huge windows awesome, but the fact that they all open up is wonderful - we loved being beachfront and hearing the waves all day and night. The location is perfect being so close to Puerto Viejo and biking there, Playa Chiquita, and even Punta Uva, was very easy. We got a rental car after our first week and explored all areas from Cahuita to Manzanillo. We totally connected with the nature, merchants and neighbors in the 3 weeks we spent at Punta Cocles. After a bit of rain (when we first arrived) stopped and the surf settled down, the gorgeous crystal clear beach right outside the back gate became our favorite. It is truly spectacular and we could wade, swim, float and bob with the waves all day. We cooked many meals in and also had lots of great meals out. We adored the friendly vibe of the Caribbean side where we could choose to be very active or spend time chilling in the hammock on the deck watching sloths, monkeys, birds and iguanas in the trees. Booking the casa was very easy, all communication was clear and helpful, and the property manager, Thomas, was very pleasant and accommodating. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Cute bungalow in the forest

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely love having all the patio doors open and connecting to the breeze and the sound of the ocean waves. Thomas was able to schedule us massages at the house and it was a wonderful experience. House is clean and well equipped with amenities. Bikes were provided with super low rental rate so we can bike to town. What a wonderful way to explore the area and live like a local for a few days!

Rainforest meets the beach in a comfy bungalow

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent our birthday week in this beautiful bungalow in the rainforest. Walking to the home you walk through the garden filled with pineapple bushes and banana trees. The bungalow itself is well stocked with everything you need. It is quite comfy. Things to note: the path to the beach was overgrown when we were there, however, easily remedied by driving as far as you can and walking the rest, also it very choppy, We didn't attempt it. Secondly, wet clothes/towels do not dry in the Rainforest (maybe everyone but us is aware of this), there's no self service laundry. Lastly, Puerto Viejo is awesome!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed the property, the hospitality and the locals. Thank you for sharing your home.

Owner's Response: We are very happy that these guests enjoyed their stay in Casa Caracola. It is a very special place. With regard to the beach path: as stated on the property description, the beach path goes through a thin strip of jungle. The jungle is protected and cannot be interfered with. The gardeners regularly clear the path of fallen branches etc, but there are a few tree roots to step over, which people with reduced mobility may find difficult to navigate. Also, when it has rained, the path can become a a bit muddy. On these occasions, the beach can be easily accessed via the front gate to the property. You then have a wider path to get to the beach (an easy 1-2 minute walk). There is certainly no need to get into a car to drive somewhere else. When the waves are choppy, calmer swimming areas can be found by walking along the beach for 5 to 10 minutes. The local agent can advise guests of the best swimming places, depending on the weather and season, upon check in. The humidity can make clothes difficult to dry and, as we advise, use sarongs on the beach, not towels, as these dry quicker. The local laundry (5 minutes easy walk away) will do a service wash and dry for around $8, if you require.

Wonderful little trip to paradise

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I spent a wonderful week in Puerto Viejo. Lovely little house that was very well kept and had all the amenities you needed to be comfortable. All of the management staff were very quick to respond and great to deal with. It's secluded enough that you have your own little jungle oasis but quite close to Puerto Viejo, just a short bike ride away.

Great spot, sound of the surf will put you to sleep.

Very cool place to stay, a short walk to the beach which was amazing, very natural, Fantastic waves every day, very quiet and little foot traffic.

Would be nice if they had a couple of nice light lounge chairs you could take to the beach.

We would definitely stay here again if we return to Puerto Viejo.

Cozy Cottage on the Beach

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week at this simple but perfect bungalow. It was the perfect place to relax and listen to the waves. The house was clean and well maintained. Thomas was very helpful and always available. The beach out front is unspoiled and beautiful. Most times we were the only two on it. Monkeys and sloths galore!! The chill town of Puerto Viejo is close enough to enjoy the vibe but far enough away to enjoy the privacy. We will definitely be back!!
