The Smith House - 20% Discount for Remaining dates through April

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-5)

Enjoy a rare opportunity to stay in one of the most historic homes in Grayton Beach -- The Smith House. Originally built in 1925, our recent renovation provides the house with all the modern conveniences while maintaining its true southern “old Grayton” charm.

Located in the heart of fun and funky Grayton Beach, and surrounded by lush landscaping that includes mature oaks, magnolias, and palms, the Smith House offers a private oasis for guests who want it all … an easy stroll to the world’s most beautiful beach as well as a peaceful retreat at which to begin and end each day.

Featuring vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, the house is decorated in vintage Florida style. The kitchen is fully outfitted with everything you would need to cook a gourmet meal. The master bedroom has a comfortable queen bed, and the double-bunk room has 2 extra-long bunk bed sets to accommodate both children and adults. The house has multiple “smart” TVs and reliable wireless internet service.

The bathroom provides a vanity with 2 sinks and a tub/shower, and an additional period pedestal sink is located in the hallway outside the bathroom. But the “guest favorite” is the fully enclosed outdoor shower that is adjacent to the porch. Spacious and private and outfitted with hot and cold water, visitors can experience the luxury of showering in nature under a canopy of oaks and magnolias.

And the porch ... It’s the best part of the house, for sure! Extending the length of the main house and wrapping around to the outdoor shower, the porch includes 2 comfortable sitting areas, a rustic cypress dining table, and a comfortable day bed for reading and relaxing. Just off the porch is a large private brick-paved patio with a picnic table, chairs, a hammock and Weber charcoal grill. Dimmable overhead patio lights create a unique and beautiful outdoor dining experience!

The outdoor shed houses 3 complimentary beach bikes as well as a large wagon loaded with all the beach gear you will need: 3 chairs, a large umbrella, cooler, and beach rafts and toys. After spending the day on the beach, guests often use the bikes to explore the adjoining beach towns in the late afternoon. In the evening, you have an easy walk to the world-famous Red Bar restaurant as well as several other outstanding dining opportunities.

The Smith House is the perfect vacation retreat. You will want to come back year after year!

** The owners of the Smith House have a second rental cottage in Grayton, Stella Luna. Stella Luna is on the same street and will rent as either a 2 bedroom/2 bath (sleeping 2-5; VRBO #380525) or as a 3 bedroom/3 bath (sleeping up to 8; VRBO #361156)

About The Owner

I come from a long line of Walton County natives and spent every summer of my childhood on the sands of Grayton Beach. My husband & I moved here permanently when our sons were born and were lucky to have raised them in this magical beach town. We love the charm and authenticity of Old Grayton, the fabulous beach and lake, the friendly locals, and the quirky nature of our town. We are year-round residents of Grayton Beach and are available to answer any of your questions or help you with anything you need during your stay. We are honored to own the Smith House and hope that you will love the house and our town as much as we do.

What makes this cottage unique

Address: 267 DeFuniak Street, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459

There is so much to do in Grayton, from swimming, fishing, and surfing in the Gulf to playing in the 'pass' at Western Lake. You can try kayaking or Stand Up Paddle boarding - on the Gulf or on the calm waters of Western Lake - and you can snorkel on Grayton's new and amazing artificial reef structure off the State Park. Nearby you can find a world-class water skiing facility, dolphin cruises, freshwater springs, and even horseback riding stables. Fabulous restaurants are a short walk away, and there is also a little convenience store, a gym, and wonderful shops and galleries just down the street. Miles of white sand beaches surrounded by State Parks on all sides, and miles of off-road bike paths along 30A. Grayton is the epicenter of 30A!

Guestbook comments from the owner

It's Thanksgiving '09 and we've just now been relaxing in this beautiful cottage full of our left-overs...for almost 4 hours. When we drove up we ran in to check it out before we unpacked the car. It's perfect! We love it and wouldn't change a thing!

The bikes were so much fun! It was a great way to experience Grayton Beach. Thank you for allowing us to stay in this peaceful little bungalow! We will definitely be back! The Mann's Albany, GA

Clean, well-located. Worked for us!

  • 5 of 5

Very cute little house. Clean. Well-located. Went for 30A music festival and was able to walk to a few of the venues (Craft Bar & AJs). Owner was easy to communicate with. Sleeps 6 - master and 4 bunks in one room, but only one bathroom, so could be tight. Perfect for just my husband and I.

Charming and full of story!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Smith House! The accommodations were perfect for our family of five. The porch was amazing for quiet reading and resetting of the soul. The quick walk to the beach was so lovely. It felt like a little nature getaway on our first introduction to 30A. The rest of 30A was cool and glamorous but Grayton Beach and the Smith House felt like home! Thanks Kelly for your hospitality- we’ve used VRBO a lot all over the world and you are the most hospitable host yet!

Charming House & Best Beach

  • 5 of 5

What an awesome place! The moment we walked inside The Smith House we fell in love with it! It is a cute historic cottage with lots of character. You can tell the Buzzett family has put so much thought into making this house so special for their guests. The family room opens up into the kitchen, which worked great for our family. The house is kind of hidden behind lush greenery. We loved the privacy from the road. The outdoor shower was a family favorite! In fact, no one even used the shower inside. The porch was amazing - one of our favorite places to hang out. It was decorated with colored lights, seashells, and even a comfy bed that my husband slept in one rainy night. On the days it rained, our kids hung out in the bunk room and having their own TV in their room was a "real treat". The Smith House had everything we needed including bikes (even one kids bike that my son used), boogie boards, an awesome raft, a wagon, a cooler and tons of beach toys. We had another great vacation in Grayton Beach this summer and look forward to it again next year. Lastly, I was so impressed to get a phone call from Kelly the day after our arrival to check in on us to see if there was anything we needed. Best hospitality ever!

Perfect Week

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Smith House and plan to return again soon. This "Old Florida" cottage has a charming, low-keyed vibe, great art, and a wonderful screened porch. It's very clean and the kitchen is well stocked. The house has good knives, flashlights, beach cruisers, beach chairs & umbrellas, a cooler and a wagon so you can drag it all to the beach for an extended stay. Kelly is very helpful and extremely organized. Highly recommended.

Beach Town Fun

  • 5 of 5

All my beach time for the last 20 years included a hotel/pool/crowds. Desiring the beach vacation from my youth I went back to Grayton Beach for the first time since 1990. While the area including Grayton has grown tremendously, Grayton is still a beach town. We spent our days on the beach swimming, throwing the football, walking, picnicing, and watching the waves roll by. It took a day or so for the family to adjust to the slower paced beach experience but before long we were in full swing.

Staying in the updated 80+ year old Smith House definitely added to our experience. The cottage was perfect for our family of 4, and had everthing needed for our vacation. We grilled out on the Webber, used the beach wagon and beach gear every day, rode bikes, napped on the porch and relaxed in the evenings playing board games and watching movies. The Smith house a.c. works great and the cottage is supplied with everthing you'll need to feel at home. The owners of the Smith House are friendly, helpful and very professional. Last but not least, good restaurants and live music are a short walk away.

We loved our beach vacation in Grayton and hope to be back soon. Kelly, thanks for your hospitality!

Smith House is wonderful!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I decided to make a quick trip to the Panhandle of Florida with our two kids. We had never been before and really didn't know where to stay but found Grayton Beach online. The Smith House was available and we decided we'd give it a try. What a perfect choice! It's an immaculate, perfectly appointed, authentic (1920's) beach cottage. Only about 3 short blocks to the most beautiful soft white sand beach you can imagine. We usually stay on the Atlantic side but after experiencing the beauty of the Gulf of Mexico we will definitely be back. The house has everything you could need. The beds are comfortable, there are three TV's (not that I watched them but the kids did) and a wonderful screened in porch for drinking coffee in the morning and enjoying a drink in the evening. We could bike to several restaurants and were only about 10 minutes from Seaside and Watercolors which were gorgeous (but very crowded). We were all happy to return to our quiet Smith house after a day of exploring. Every detail was handled by Kelly and she gave us many great recommendations for dining. This is the real deal for old Florida living. You won't be disappointed!!
