In our private piece of paradise we have two completely furnished vacation rental homes listed on HomeAway, outfitted with fully equipped kitchens and A/C units in every bedroom. At Riverwalk you can explore a myriad of well-maintained nature trails from easy to challenging and a meandering rocky river with natural pools and waterfalls. The sounds of nature will soothe your soul and the colorful landscape will leave your mesmerized. Stroll through a cathedral of bamboo and find banana groves, mango, papaya, plantains, royal palm trees, coconut palm trees, and cocoa trees. On the forest floor rests an enormous variety of luxurious ferns. Native birds serenade the day from the forest canopy. Gaze a starlit sky and drift to sleep listening to the melody of Puerto Rico’s beloved 'Coqui' frog.
Riverwalk Hacienda, is located within a short drive to many beautiful beaches. You can enjoy international and local cuisine at nearby restaurants. We are conveniently located 10 minutes from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez as well as many shopping centers with movie theaters, supermarkets, ATMs, and casinos.
It's an ideal, safe and sensible destination for the budget-minded vacationer that loves nature. Come alone or come with friends and family. Enjoy your stay and don’t forget the sunscreen!
My parents were born in Cuba, moved to the US in 1960 and after my father graduated from The University of Gainesville, FL. he moved to PR with his family, and since then, we have consider PR, our home. They raised us (three daughters) for most of our life, in this beautiful Rainforest and named it Riverwalk, because of the beautiful walking trail, along the river.
Riverwalk was in its origins, a very extensive and productive Coffee Plantation, for many years.
Cristina (Kiki) purchased this cabin in 1970
For my parents, the benefits of a peaceful, beautiful, and safe country living, very close to town and the University of Mayaguez, (10 mts drive) where my father was an Engineering Professor for many years.
Total relaxation, peaceful starling nights, fun and exiting expeditions to the river or walking trails, beautiful flora and fauna everywhere, very safe (only guest & residents are allowed access to the property) the proximity to all the beautiful west coast beaches, and everything in town.
It is only a 2.5 hr drive from San Juan.
Thanks for your hospitality. We had a lovely time in the Cottage. We need to come back again to take the property tour. We loved the dinner and the exchange of intellectual ideas.
This cabin is perfectly located with privacy and all the amenities a person could want as a vacation rental...! Would recommend to anyone looking to be close to tourist destinations, but yet far enough away that you don't have to deal with the hustle and bustle of city life.
We love staying at Cristina's property in the forest! The cottage is in a large private forest next to a river. The forest is mature and undisturbed, there are tons of frogs, lizards, and birds - a nature lover's dream. The scenery is beautiful and there are several trails on the property to go exploring. If you walk all the way to the top of the hill you can actually watch the sun set in the Caribbean and get a good view of Desecheo. The cottage is rustic but in a quaint way - the walls are wood but you have all the amenities and comfort you could wish for (laundry, A/C, kitchen, hot water, etc.). I love sitting on the large front porch when eating my breakfast and my group enjoyed using the barbecue in the evenings! It is much cooler up there in the mountains than in the city, we were very comfortable only running the ceiling and wall fans.
The property is also really ideally located. I've not found another rental like it in Puerto Rico - you can have your forest retreat but still be a very short drive from all the tourist attractions! It's only a 30 minute drive from the property into Rincon, 15 minutes to Mayaguez, and 45 minutes to Cabo Rojo. There's so much to see in this region and the sunsets are amazing.
Cristina has always been extremely responsive and welcoming to us when we stay there (this is our 3rd trip to her property). We can't wait for our next trip to this little forest paradise!
To be surrounded by such gorgeous, lush natural landscape, to hear all the birds during the day and the coqui frogs at night was an incredible treat. We had trouble tearing ourselves away from the porch with its view of the mountains and the palms. And it was oh so quiet!! We have never slept better (and the new bed was very comfortable!!). Although the cabin is simple it is very comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. No light pollution either. Hiking up the mountain was our daily activity. Easy drive to the beaches which take you through small towns so you can experience local life. Christina was so joyful and happy to help. She made our stay great. We would definitely return for an even longer period of time. LOVED IT!
We knew we were going to just love this place based on the description, pictures and reviews. Wow! Our expectations were exceeded as day one of our month stay began. The cabin was just as we envisioned. Clean, cozy, private and surrounded by a rain forest like setting on 70 acres. There are many well maintained trails that lead to waterfalls and sunset views. A short loop bordering the river trail began most of our mornings before we headed out to the beautiful beaches of Rincon or Isabela. The location of the cabin was perfect for us with RT 2 being just 15 minutes away. We loved coming home at the end of the day to cooler temps, birds singing and pretty colors in the sky as the sun started to set. Throwing something on the grill every night for dinner was a huge bonus that we weren't aware of when we booked. The best part however was the owner and her son. Their love of this property and their love of sharing it is felt from the heart. They provided the best customer service we have ever received in a rental home and we cannot say enough good things about our experience! Our highest recommendation goes out to them and the Riverwalk. We shall return!

This rental deserves 5 stars based on our likes (but is not luxury and just what we had hoped for) I don't know why the stars show 3 and 1/4 instead of the 4 and 1/2 ----or "5" we rated it in the earlier review.
We stayed 6+ weeks in this great place. The cottage is rustic but has all the conveniences you could want, a great private setting, and a large deck where we spent most of the time. In the country but close to beaches, stores ,etc. if you want to drag yourself away from the ease of just spending time there. Only one small regret, and that was that the upper trails were not well maintained and you might check on their condition if inclined toward extensive hiking. The hosts. and their family went out of their way to make us welcome and we would definitely stay there again . Dick and Patty
