I have been visiting the islands since my early twenties when I bicycled around Kauai, Oahu and The Big Island.
Years later, in 2001, I met the love of my life on Maui, which was a magical time. In our hearts, Hawaii is our home. We love to care for the land/gardens and the house in a way that makes it enjoyable for others to experience. We currently live part of the year in California.
Audrey Roumiguiere purchased this house in 2007
I chose this property/house because the women who owned it previously had put their heart and soul into caring for it since 1997 when it was built. They had planted and tended the beautiful botanical gardens and had kept the house in tip-top shape.
The home sits about 235 feet back from the street and is surrounded by vegetation. The gardens are a pleasure to do a walk-about every day and see something different.
There is a locking gate at the entrance which lets you know that no one will be just 'dropping by'.
The lay-out of the house is spacious and comfortable.
The house is perfect! It has all of the kitchen appliances necessary and almost every kitchen utensil one can think of. There are plenty of sheets and towels. The beds are clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are immaculate. The house is well lit inside and out. The water pressure is strong. The ambiance of the interior was definitely well thought out. It's simple but perfect and peaceful. This little gem of a home is surrounded in a paradise of beautiful trees, lush shrubs, and exotic flowers which provide plenty of privacy.
I would definitely stay here again next time I come to the Big Island.
Very beautiful seclusive Hawaiian feeling home. Had everything we could possibly need to relax and feel right at home, even for our teenagers! Favorite part was listening to the sounds at night while relaxing! The Thermal ponds & Hilo were very close so that was a plus! Loved how the home was not near the tourist traps!
Wow ! Wow ! Wow !
What a place to be on Vacation with my father, mother and Dan. This place was like living in a house in a Hawaiian Botanical Garden. Outstanding, nothing is missing with all the flowers, plants, trees and even some fruit trees such as Avocado, Bananas, Orange, Abiu and also bushes of raspberries. Probably more depending on the time of the season you are there. Been to Hawaii before, more than 10 times. But this time it is a first time experience for us to find and rent a vacation house that we can rent for a full month and also a car will be needed. Plus, we had some concerns about renting.
Because... you never know what you will get and everything is already all paid, months in advance before getting there.
Yes, we do have some pictures to view about the rental property when doing the research. But still wonder? It is a big gamble. Because life is full of surprises. You never know? We decided this time to find a place on the Big Island. After searching on the VRBO web, we found one in Pahoa.
The owner was very helpful with the quick responses with everything we asked. Pahoa, a nice little hippy town that has all the amenities and superb restaurants. Only about 10 minutes drive to downtown from the house. The house was a Paradise, was also the perfect place for my father. He will be 80 years old soon and he is not so mobile anymore. The exquisite place for my father and mother to be and to have a chance to enjoy some quality and relax time in this beautiful garden. They both love plants, flowers, tranquility and the songs of birds. Away from the racket and tumult of Osaka, Japan which is home for them. Dan and I are from Canmore, Alberta, Canada only 20 minutes away from Banff National Park.
No regrets, this was a real Paradise, perfect place to be. If we need to rate this Paradise, we need to give it an easy 10, nothing less. This place (Paradise) is absolutely recommendable.

Most comfortable...surrounded by an acre of privacy. Ideal home base to explore and experience the rural peacefulness of the Puna District. Thank you for arranging an immaculately clean rental. My week was such a pleasure, that I've rented it again, for my birthday week, In April.
5-stars! Highly recommended.
This home was spacious, well supplied with necessities for either a short or long stay, super quiet day and night with none of the sirens or loud urban noises of other sorts associated with big city or big suburb life. Garden was tranquil and eye-pleasing, there was no noise from the neighbors, and the one town in Puna District, Pahoa, was nearby.
This is a beautifully appointed 3 bedroom home on a very private acre of spectacular gardens. The owner is very helpful, the price is very reasonable and we had a great stay. Treat yourself with this one!
