Overview

West Meadows Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Studio, 1 Bedroom + Attached Unit, 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 3-5)

Our retreat has the atmosphere of a high elevation “refuge” in the Alps, with modern amenities and an original design, located right in the Kirkwood valley. Three alcove beds with beautiful views, a comfortable couch, a kitchenette, and a barbecue on the deck, all make for an easy transition into vacation mode. Previous visitors have loved the space and found sleeping in the cedar alcoves incredibly restful. Solar PV panels and tankless water heater lower the environmental cost of maintaining a cabin at 7800 ft.

We also offer the option of an additional bedroom with independent entry and its own full bathroom. The bedroom is furnished with a queen bed and its own television. Check our own website for photo and additional details (click on active hyperlink below the Rates section on this page or google 'Tynej').

The retreat is child safe and family friendly. It comes with a collection of children’s books, puzzles, board games and movies. It is ideal for families or groups of three or four friends. During ski season, you can cross-country ski and snow shoe right off the deck or have the shuttle take you to downhill ski lifts a few minutes away. In the summer, simply hike out to the adjacent national forest or any of the surrounding lakes. It is a beautiful place to stay in a beautiful valley.

Comfort in an efficient studio

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our summer vacation at TyNej. The studio is well-designed to maximize space and offer views from every angle. There are comfortable beds, wifi, internet tv, and the kitchen has a European efficient 2-burner stove, small fridge, and toaster oven. Bertrand, the host, gave us a lot of information about nearby hikes, and the best part was that you can leave the studio on foot and be on a trail in minutes.

Ingenious use of space in a cozy high-end studio, great location for a classic ski experience

  • 5 of 5

I just came back from a 3 night stay with my two little girls age 4 and 6. The "Studio" has been made into a three bedroom of sorts with really cool built in storage and 3 separate berths for sleeping that can be almost blackout dark with the curtains. While you can hear each other like in any shared space, I was able to work for hours with the lights on while my kids slept in their own beds in the same main room.

We loved waking up and watching the snow fall out the windows while sitting in bed (see the photos). A really special experience for my kids and me. Bonus is you can see a bit of the main road to check driving conditions.

It is almost within walking distance of the ski school beginner slopes-though the walk is along a road so probably not super safe but good to have the option when 2 feet of snow fell one day and I wasn't sure if the car would make it home. We drove because of my little ones and ski equipment. There is also a shuttle you can call.

There is a toilet in a separate room from the shower/bath which is very helpful and around the corner from the beds.

The cooking area is hotel style with a smallish dorm fridge and various efficient cooking equipment as described in other reviews. It was more than adequate for our needs (cereal, coffee and snacks). We ate at the area restaurants and on slopes. There is an easy to use fireplace and DVD player with nicely placed screen. We especially loved all the books including children's books!

The owner was inexhaustibly responsive to my myriad questions about payments and the snow conditions and directions. It could be a hard place to find at night. I have a minivan and ultimately brought and used chains [which I'd recommend to anyone coming up to Kirkwood 4 wheel drive or not-just in case]. He took the time to greet us when we arrived and when the roads closed the day we checked out, he even offered to let us visit until the roads cleared.

This is probably not the best pick for anyone with toddlers, babies or infirm grandparents: because you need to climb up into bed from a stool and because you need to walk down a bit of a small hill to get to the door and because you need to park the car at the top of a driveway to make space for snow removal. No problems for my 4 year old though who was in awe of the winter wonderland when we walked to our car. My older daughter actually cried a bit when we left saying she was sad to leave the cabin.

Nice stay at Tynej

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice stay at Tynej that we rented for 4 nights this past mid-February. The cabin was very clean, the amenities appropriate for a short stay and most of all the owner, very responsive to our questions!

We loved the sectional sofa to hangout as a family after a long day of ski and the nice bathroom with separate toilets.

We were able to easily walk from/to the ski school or called for the shuttle if we were not up for it.

TyNej - Charming Retreat says it all

  • 5 of 5

The plan was a last minute get away to the slopes for New Year’s; just the 4 of us, two adults and two teenagers. We are so thankful we were able to book our dates with Bertrand at TyNej. From the photos we were a bit concerned that TyNej was going to be a bit small. We were pleasantly surprised that the photos didn’t do TyNej justice. The retreat was plenty big enough for the four of us. We cooked, hung out and skied. It was wonderful sitting on couch in the mornings sipping our coffee while watching the sun come up. The beds were very comfortable. The layout was very cool. A big plus was discovering that TyNej is just a 10 minute walk to chair 7, which we took advantage of. We are already discussing a return trip.

Great get away in Kirkwood

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed for the weekend with two young boys. We dug up sledding trail and built snow fort for snow ball fight in the backyard. We had grand ol' time. :) Mr. Bertrand was so nice to lend us his sled, give us tips, etc. He was very kind and nice. The house is so close to the ski resort, yet we didn't even have time to go skiing because my children were having so much fun in the snow in his backyard. Also, it was just relaxing and nice just to hang out in the house.... There are several things I liked about the house. 1st: the location-Close to the ski resort and Great View!!!!!. 2nd: Just the right size for a family with small children - cottage style wall beds with windows and beautiful curtains for privacy. Comfortable bed. Ample storage spaces under the bed. Very well thought out design of the studio, 3rd: 4 heated drying racks- very smart!, 4th: Lovely collections of children books... We had lots of fun there and I am sure we will return again.

TyNej Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a long weekend at TyNej with two young boys. They loved the beds and it reminded me of being on a sail boat with incredible views in the morning. The Apple TV was fun for watching movies with tired little skiers and there were loads of fun books for kids to peruse. The place is also conveniently located and very near the slopes. The ski school parking lot has free parking for families with children - a big plus when you have tired ones and lots of gear to lug around. The owner is also very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back.
