Family of four. Reside in Charlotte, NC but wishes they could be at the cabin all the time. Adults work for the school system that both boys attend and in County government. Dogs and chickens are also a part of the family!
Dennis and Lynne purchased this chateau / country house in 2007
Purchased for weekend getaways from the hustle and bustle of big city life. Within easy driving distance of home, but offers an experience that is truly transcendent.
Peaceful and quiet, the cabin provides a break from the heat and high humidity of Charlotte summers. An amazing place to watch snow fall while nestled in front of the warm fireplace. Summer activities include hiking area trails or just walking the neighborhood, playing in the park in downtown Blowing Rock; or horseback riding. Winters are spent skiing, shopping, and enjoying each others' company. The wraparound porch offers some amazing views. The wood construction of the A-frame house is rustic, solid, and charming.
Worst vacation rental experience ever. I hope you arrive in time to finish washing and drying the sheets before you make your bed to go to sleep. Don't trust the owner if you have a crappy experience and they offer to make things right, it's a big fat lie! I would have been better off sleeping in my car. Be sure to bring your hazardous materials handlers because the cleaning crew does not actually empty the trash so when the guest before you leaves their used sanitary pads etc in the trash can either you have to empty it or you have to live with it. GROSS!!! Also the sheets and towels provided are way older than I am. Honestly I think their mother in law must have cleaned out her linen closet from the '30s to provide crappy old sheets and towels for this place. I live in the furniture capital of the world and when someone here rents a home to visitors they provide really nice sheets and towels for them to use. My expectations were not even that high but this really missed the mark. Please don't trust these people!
The space and privacy that this cozy and beautiful cabin offers was what helped to have a greate Christmas get away from routine with our family and my in laws. I Like the convenience of the kitchen, it is prepared with everything you might need. The gate security staff are very friendly and informative which help us a lot to plan our days during our stay, and the property owners were easy to contact and willing to assist in everything we could need. If you Like hiking or any outdoor mountains activity this is the perfect place. Definitely will be back, love it...
We stayed here for 8 days in early May and had a very mixed reaction to the place. The good things first. The house has a nice location near Boone in a gated community, very quiet yet reasonably convenient to area attractions. The access road is steep, narrow, and curvy, but it is paved. We liked the layout of the house and the absence of tacky decorations. That said, the house is clearly a well-worn rental that’s suffered from neglect of basic maintenance, and for us it threatened to become the rental from hell. When we arrived, we found that the electrics in the living room weren’t working (that included the lights, the TV, the Wifi, and the heater). We located the panel and got it working by flipping all the breakers. But that was only a temporary fix, as the breakers continued to trip several times a day…until finally we lost all power. After repeated calls to Dennis, the owner, several staff members from the property management office at the community took over (they were great, by the way), and an electrician quickly sorted things out. Good thing, because we were on the verge of cutting our losses and bailing out. Even after the repairs, we had to run the Monitor heater with an extension cord because there was one receptacle behind the heater that the electrician couldn't get to. With the major problem solved (four days into our stay), the house served us pretty well. But among other things, we noted the following: 1.The water line to the water heater in the basement/crawlspace (where the breaker panel was located) was leaking and spewing water all over. A plumber fixed this before we got the electrics fixed, but the overhead insulation remained dripping wet.
2.The foundation was badly cracked (didn’t directly affect us but indicative of neglect).
3.The fridge was barely adequate. Freezer wouldn’t make ice cubes until we managed to remove a big sheet of ice that had formed in it. (We had to buy new ice cube trays as the ones in there were cracked and leaking.) Fridge section wouldn’t cool properly even on highest setting.
4.Space heaters in bedrooms lacked dials to adjust thermostats. Dennis said to use a screwdriver (we never found one in the house). So… you take your chances with this place. Some people have obviously had positive experiences here, and the place does have its good points. But unless the owners start doing a better job of monitoring conditions here and keeping up with basic maintenance, it’s a risky prospect.
Our family had a fantastic stay. The owners were very accommodating and were available to answer any questions we had. We have recommended this rental to several of our friends and are already planning our next trip back. 😀
I had a reservation to rent this cabin during the third week of October but could not make it due to some other scheduling issues. The owner Mr.Dennis has been very understanding about the situation and has given me an option for an alternate date. This is great customer service and I would rate this cabin highly for that. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a great play to stay in the Boone area and Mr.Dennis is a wonderful person and very nice to work with.
This cabin is nicely designed. The biggest issue we had was with electrical problems. Twice during our stay we were without lights in the big upstairs bedroom and the kitchen. My husband spent approximately four hours trying to get the power back on. We think the problem might have been due to a light switch that was hanging out of the wall upstairs, because sparks would fly out of it sometimes when you turned it on. We contacted the owners both times and their directions were to unplug everything and reset the breakers which worked sporadically. It was advertised as having firewood underneath the house, but there was none. There was also no detergent to run the dishwasher, no dish washing detergent, and only 1 1/2 rolls of toilet tissue per bathroom for 4 adults and 1 child for 3 nights. Many of the pots and pans had not been thoroughly cleaned and still had food scum on the bottom of the pan. It is such a cute cabin and comfortably decorated. It is too bad that it was not better maintained and prepared for guests. We liked the cabin but because of the above issues, we would not recommend renting it.
Hound Ears Club is a gated residential community. Situated just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and adjacent to Moses Cone Park, the neighborhood offers privately maintained roads and 24 hour security in an amazingly serene setting.
Our home is convenient to downtown Blowing Rock, with its municipal park, quaint shopping and fine dining options. It also is just minutes from Boone; attractions there include collegiate sports at Appalachian State University and a diverse culinary scene. Valle Crucis Park is an amazing gem tucked behind the original Mast General Store, where kids can run and play while parents walk the track. Great base for exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway, whether for a scenic drive or to undertake hikes from easy to challenging. Walking to the top of Hound Ears is a challenge in and of itself; a stunning view of Grandfather Mountain is among the rewards of the walk. Ski Appalachian and Sugar Mountain ski slopes are just a brief car ride away. Tweetsie Railroad and The Blowing Rock are family-focused attractions nearby.
Our house offers a beautiful place to watch the leaves change in autumn, a welcome respite from the heat and humidity of summer, and a cozy place to curl up by the fire and read as snow falls around you in winter. Four wheel drive vehicles are not required to access the house nor the amenities the area has to offer.
