Traveler, collector, builder, wine-maker, painter, jewelry designer/maker, fabulous cook (here I am describing my mother, Joan, the property owner!)
Brian White purchased this estate in 2000
This 30 acre property had been a vineyard, originally planted in the 1880s, but had gone fallow and eventually completely reclaimed by the madrone and pine trees after Prohibition brought things to a halt. My mother came up here for the first time, climbed a tree and was wowed by the incredible view of the entire Napa Valley! She acquired the property, designed and built the house and guest house around her vast collection of antique doors, windows and architectural artifacts of all sorts.
Sweeping views of the Napa Valley, looking across to the majestic Mount St Helena, surrounded by the estate's expansive gardens and organic vineyard. Fine antique furnishings throughout the house, with extraordinary architectural features and integrated artifacts from all over the world (exposed beams throughout the house are hundreds of years old, dining room fireplace build around 12th c. French limestone carvings, the walls throughout are 2 feet thick, antique doors and windows). An old-world experience, literally brought here and assembled again in California!
My friends and I chose this place for a birthday celebration at the end of september at the start of harvest. We had very high expectations and I can happily report that we were not disappointed. The owner greeted us and gave us the lay of the land as well as several bottles of superb juice as a welcome. The home is more beautiful than one could describe in words. The views are 360 degrees of splendor in this home perched above the valley just below Pride vineyard. You won't be disappointed!!!!
If you want to enjoy all that Napa Valley has to offer, this is the perfect location to do it. Located just up the mountain from St. Helena, this home offers a private get away perched on top of a 30 acre vineyard overlooking the valley below. The property is in immaculate condition lined with fruit trees (figs, limes, peaches, etc.) and the spacious, eclectic interior has great character. We stayed comfortably over a long weekend with 5 couples to celebrate a few birthdays. The views are breathtaking from sunrise above the valley clouds to sunset over the property vineyards. The owner greeted us, showed us around and even left us two bottles of wine from her vineyard to get the weekend started (quite tasty by the way).
Our only 'complaint' was that the listing pictures don't do the property nearly enough justice. We were all shocked at how much more picturesque and beautiful this property actually was.
This was truly an unforgettable trip and there's no doubt that we will be back to stay again. Hopefully sooner rather then later!
We were guests at the Vineyard Estate on the weekend of March 8. We stayed in the Guest House, a fully independent beautifully decorated bedroom with kitchen, bathroom and plenty of space. We can't say enough about the beauty of the guest house, the quality of the unique art and books everywhere. It has it all.
The grounds are beautifully maintained and in bloom right now. We spent time reading relaxing and enjoying the beautiful vineyards and surrounding hills. Breathtaking.
Bring food with you and take time to cook, you won't want to leave once you arrive.
First of all let me start by saying this property is breathtaking. The pictures really do not do it any justice at all. We were a group of 10 and everyone simply loved staying here and there was more than enough room for all of us. The gardens are lovely and the pool was a real treat. We were also allowed to pick veggies from the garden, which was unreal. The only time we left the property was to go into town for burgers at Gotts. We realized quickly that there was no need to stray too far. Why would you? If you get a chance to stay here I would highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.
We rented the estate for a couples (4) getaway and couldn't have been more pleased. The home itself is beautiful, and the architect in our group was amazed with it's design and construction. The decor is interestingly eclectic which only adds to the home's charm. Gardens, pool, and views are fantastic. The posted pictures are beautiful, but the property is really more than what can be shown in a photograph. We had a difficult time leaving it it for our planned activities.
The owner is warm and friendly - even meeting us at the property to give us all a tour and show us where things are and how they worked.
The 10 minute drive from St. Helena to the property is a winding mountain road, but worth it for the house and views. There are several wineries within a 5 minute drive.
Our favorite activities were a hosted wine tour (Platypus Tours), renting bikes (Calistoga Bike Shop), and being at the estate.
All 8 of us highly recommend this rental property and hope to be returning to it in the near future!
Numerous wineries, fine restaurants, spas and other Napa Valley attractions close by.
