The Cowhouse is a 513 sq ft compact hilltop guesthouse located on Barkspin Oaks Ranch, a 61-acre ranch in the Texas Hill Country. It is about 8 miles southwest of Dripping Springs with beautiful views that go for miles. It is located close to local wineries, distilleries, and wedding and event venues such as the Alexander at Creek Rd, Camp Lucy, and Cricket Hill Ranch. Other scenic hill country towns such as Wimberley and Blanco are within a 30-minute drive, and Fredericksburg can be reached within an easy hour drive.
The Cowhouse is a secluded, private, and peaceful place to relax with complete kitchen and laundry. The kitchen is open to the living area, with recently updated stainless steel appliances. The living room has a large window with a great view that looks east. There is a TV that receives local network channels, and a DVD player with assorted movies.
The large 12 x 30 ft covered porch also faces east with some spectacular sunrises and great views throughout the day. There is a gas grill and multiple seating areas.
The bedroom has a king bed, large closet, and blackout curtains. The bathroom has a combination tub/shower, toilet, and vanity. The laundry room has a large top loading washing machine and a large dryer.
The owners, Andi and Jerry, built the Cowhouse in 2008 to be their weekend home. At that time there wasn’t a fence to keep out the livestock and the cows would come right up to the house. Andi and Jerry had been looking for a name for the house when their grandson called it the Cowhouse because he and his sister loved being able to watch the cows right up close. The name just seemed to fit.
Barkspin Oaks Ranch was originally part of a large ranch that Andi's grandparents settled almost 100 years ago. The ranch is still very rugged and provides a home for lots of wildlife. Deer and rabbits are always around. A family of foxes also lives nearby. There are bird feeders that attract a variety of birds. There is a pair of hawks that can occasionally be seen, as well as wild turkeys. And several "critters" may show up in the evenings.
The Cowhouse was converted to their guest house when Andi and Jerry built their retirement home nearby in 2015. The Cowhouse is over 200 feet away from their home and both are on top of a hill inside a 4-acre fenced area to keep out the livestock. The main house is located where it does not impact the great views seen from the Cowhouse. Outdoor living areas for both homes are separated by trees and there is enough space between them to ensure privacy. The owners and guests will share the private road to the public road but the Cowhouse has a separate parking area. The Cowhouse is 0.3 miles from the public road.
Guests will be allowed to walk around the mowed areas of the fenced 4 acres at their own risk. Guests are not allowed outside of this fenced area except when entering or exiting in their vehicle.
No Smoking or Vaping.
Check-in is 4pm and Check-out is 10am.
