About the property

3 bedrooms, roof top terrace, top facilities, free WiFi, for families

Villa Lona was built in 2011 in the traditional salentinian style. The light-flooded, modern villa has isolated walls and is therefore well suited for all seasons. In summer the air condition cools down the villa pleasantly, in winter the cosy and powerful pellet stove gets the heat up. From the paved terrace around the house, offering plenty of shadowy space for eating and relaxing, a stair case is leading up to the big roof top terrace, from where you have a splendid 180 degree view.

About Bente Boekhoff

Bente and Thomas, a Norwegian actress and a German carpenter, and our dogs Laika from Hungary and Nomi from Portugal went to Puglia in 2011 for the first time and fell instantly “in love”. We had always dreamt of having a house “in the south”, and November 2016 the dream came real. Now, we want to share this dream with you!

Bente Boekhoff purchased this house in 2016

Why Bente Boekhoff chose Manduria

Villa Lona is situated in a calm, natural area. The view of the sea and the puglian landscape are amazing!

The beaches of the Ionian Sea aren on ly 2,8 km awaz. The sand here is white and fine, the crystal clear, turquois water is a pleasure for bathing, especially in summer where sea temperatures rise up to 25 degrees °C! Close to the villa there are mainly coastal sand dunes. Even during high season you can still find a spot of your own here and take your dog with you.

The landscape of Salento is characterized by vine, olive trees and cactuses, and the unique trulli, traditional Apulian round dry stone huts with conical roofs. Here you will find many wine yards, olive oil producers and small markets where you can buy directly from the producer. In the many masserie (typical rural farm houses) and country guesthouses you can enjoy the tasty food of Puglia, based mainly on fresh, sun ripened and natural products. Add tasty wines, the warm hospitality of the south and low prices – there you have a real pleasure going out!

The villa is surrounded by small places and towns with all sorts of shops, cafés, bars, restaurants; San Pietro in Bevagna (3 km), the cute town Maruggio (6 km), the fishing village Torre Colimena (10 km), Campomarino with marina (10 km), the beautiful, historical and modern town of Manduria (10 km), famous for its red wine Primitivo.

If you are interested in cultural activities you will also find plenty of things to do and see in Puglia. Villa Lona lies in the “Magna Graecia”, the antique part of Southern Italy colonialized by the Greek. By Manduria the Messapians left amongst other things gravesites and a wall. There is also a museum for primitivo there. Other historical places are the port city of Galllipoli, the baroque Lecce, Matera, the soon to be European Capital of Culture 2019 with its sassi – caves, Alberobello and its complete town of trulli, and the ceramic town of Grottaglie, just to name a few.

What makes this house unique

Villa Lona is the perfect place for relaxing! Your are in absolute peace but still close to everything.

The Villa is modern and in a top condition, with all amenities for summer and winter. We offer free WiFi.

The big garden, nearly 10.000 sqm, is completely fenced, your kids and dogs can play freely! And there are 2 outdoor showers with hot and cold water.

We think Puglia has so much to offer; beautiful beaches, so much space, the feeling of freedom, warmth, hearty people, charming towns… And since we really enjoy cooking and eating, we indulge ourselves with the great range of local fruits and vegetables available at any time of the year, variations of typical pasta, the home made taralli we buy at the local supermarket Jonical in San Pietro in Bevagna (the big counter there is brilliant!), olive oil in big quantities, and of course, the wine. Whether you buy an expensive bottle or a 5-L-can from the local store, the taste is always delicious!

2 exterior showers with hot and cold water. Own water well; the water is clean and safe and usable for cooking, but slightly salty, - not suitable for making coffee/tea/water drinking. A public well with free drinking water to tap is located in the centre of San Pietro in Bevagna. Or you tap water at „Acqua Self“ in Maruggio for 5 Cent/Liter. There is a box with 12 glass bottles to fill up in the kitchen. Our gardener has a key to the gate and takes care of the plants from time to time. Local German/Italian/English speaking caretaker.Villa Lona lies at the end of an unpaved road; please pay attention when driving with lowered cars! As a rule, arrival is between 16:00-18:00 (4 pm - 6 pm), departure is between 09:00-10:00 (9 am - 10 pm). Meerblick und Sternenhimmel inklusive

  • 5 of 5

Wunderbare erholsame Tage

  • 5 of 5

Villa Lona is situated in a calm and slightly elevated area and offers a wonderful panoramic view of the sea and the surroundings. Overlooking olive groves and vineyards you can even see the tip of Gallipoli. There are neighbours only below the house; to the back the villa is adjacent to a nature reserve with subtropical vegetation, the Mediterranean scrub. The sandy beaches and dunes are only 2,5 km away, the nearest towns are San Pietro in Bevagna (3 km) and Maruggio (6 km).
