Welcome to Puffin Place! 2016-2017 updates include fully repainted interior (walls, ceilings, trim), new hardwood flooring upstairs, new kitchen and foyer tile, new living area flooring, updated bathrooms, new sleeper sofa, new king bed in master, and more! Puffin Place pampers you with panoramic ocean and marsh views, an exceptional kitchen, WiFi , extensive DVD, book, puzzle and board game libraries, cable or Internet television in all bedrooms, propane gas and charcoal grill, and more! And plenty of room to spread out with 3 bedrooms, 3 updated baths, den that doubles as a 4th bedroom, open living dining area, screened porch, 2 open decks, and a top notch kitchen.

You’ll enter Puffin Place through a covered front porch, with four chairs (2 rockers) and a small table for resting your beverage, where you can enjoy ever changing views of the tidal marsh. On entering the home you will love the open floor plan with great flow through the kitchen, dining and living areas that lead into the inviting screened porch through sliding glass doors. The living area offers ample seating with a large sofa, a loveseat, and two occasional chairs. The gas fireplace makes this an ideal spot to cocoon in winter. A generously sized dining table comfortably seats six to eight, with six dining chairs, and two lightweight side chairs stored in the adjacent den. When you have had enough sun, you can settle into the living area and enjoy the 32 inch flat screen cable television, DVD and VHS players, stereo radio/CD player, and DVD, VHS and CD libraries, all beautifully concealed behind the doors of the entertainment armoire. The living area opens onto the screened porch where the dinette set under the ceiling fan invites you to relax and enjoy the stunning view. The screened porch then opens onto a small open deck with a mesmerizing 180 degree view across gently waving sea oats on grass covered dunes to the sparkling ocean beyond. The closest boardwalk is just 240 feet away. A propane grill is available for your use, and a large picnic table is tucked into the shade of the carport.

The den on the main floor boasts a 50 inch flat screen cable television with a DVD player. This large room also has a new sleeper sofa (2016), great views of the marsh, and a comfy chairs perfect for settling in with a good book. And Puffin Place provides dozens of books for your reading pleasure…both fiction and non fiction including numerous books devoted to the surrounding area, history, and nature. The den can easily double as a fourth bedroom, with the sleeper sofa, its own closet, large chest of drawers, and convenient location adjacent to a completely renovated bath with a custom walk-in shower.

If you like to cook, you will flip for the well equipped kitchen with granite counter tops offering plenty of workspace, an undermount double bowl stainless steel sink with Moen faucet, maple French provincial cabinets, stainless steel range, and a top of the line stainless steel Samsung French door refrigerator with a wine cooler drawer and bottom drawer freezer compartment. This is truly a “cook’s kitchen” with not just all the standard cookware, tableware and small appliances, but also a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, a Cuisinart 14 cup food processor, a stainless steel fish poacher, cookbooks, pots and pans of all sizes and types, a restaurant style stainless steel four slice toaster, DeLonghi toaster oven, Cuisinart coffee maker, Oster 16 speed blender, Wusthof knives and sharpener, and beautiful, unique dishes and serving pieces. Oh, and did we mention the view? You can stand at the kitchen sink and look straight through the living/dining area and screened porch to the dunes and ocean beyond! Two bar stools on the dining table side of the kitchen pass-through make that a great spot for a casual meal or sipping a glass of your favorite beverage while chatting with the cook. There also is a laundry room with a full sized washing machine and dryer on this floor.

Conveniently located on this main level is the master bedroom suite. With a new (2017) king bed, charming vintage furnishings, and a 32” flat screen Internet (Roku) television, the master is on the ocean side of the home with beautiful ocean views, and opens directly to the screened porch. What a great way to wake up in the morning! A fully renovated en suite bath featuring custom river rock flooring completes the master suite.

Upstairs are two large bedrooms each with a reading nook, and a third full bath that is ideally located off of the landing that separates the two bedrooms. This bath has been updated with new river rock flooring, new lighting, new vanity and counter top, and a new subway tile tub surround. Spacious guest bedroom1 boasts a beautiful king sized sleigh bed, 32” Internet television (Roku), and in the dormer alcove a comfy arm chair and ottoman provide a nice private spot for reading or relaxing. There is a lovely marsh view from the alcove window, and a wide blade ceiling fan keeps the breeze circulating for restful sleep. Guest bedroom2 is a perfect children’s room with a 32” cable television and two twin beds. A dormer sitting area with a stunning ocean view offers a snugly overstuffed chair with ottoman, and shelves of books at arm’s length. This bedroom also offers a wide blade ceiling fan for sleeping comfort. On the landing between the bedrooms is a bookcase filled with games and books.

The Pelican Point duplex homes are the southern-most homes on Harbor Island....a single row of elevated duplex houses facing the ocean to the east and an expansive tidal marsh to the west. Harbor Island offers abundant natural beauty with over two miles of private beach with gentle surf, dolphins and seabirds, and rolling sand dunes covered with sea oats and myrtle. If you are lucky and the time is right you may even see protected sea turtle hatchlings headed for the ocean one night. All guests have access to the Harbor Island Beach and Racquet Club facilities: an Olympic sized pool overlooking the marshes of the Harbor River with fabulous sunset views, a kiddie pool, sand volleyball court, 1/2 court basketball, children's playground, fitness center, tennis courts and sundries shop. Your house was so comfortable and cozy. Nice to be able to use the fireplace. This house provided lots of rest and relaxation in a warm inviting atmosphere. Very inviting-would absolutely stay here again. Quiet, peaceful, secure. Our favorite adventures: beachcombing, Hunting Island, Beaufort Harbor Cruise was wonderfully educational and pleasant (and we saw dolphins). Sunsets were beaufituf from beach or porches at the house.

Cozy Place

This was our first time staying at Puffin Place and we fell in love with the place. This is by far the best rental we had since coming to Harbor Island. We have been coming to Harbor Island for 6 years now. The home has very nice views, clean, plenty of cooking ware, and nice furniture. It didn't feel like your typical rentals and that's what we liked. The owners really made it feel like a home away from home. The TV's are nice and so are the bathrooms.

My mom and I enjoyed the place while my husband had a ball fishing and crabbing. He met a lot of wonderful people including the managers of the property. We will definitely rent this unit again in the near future.

Peaceful and fun whatever the weather

This was the 11th time for me at Puffin Place and the first time to visit in the fall. The weather may have left something to be desired (rain and fog most of the week), but the shrimp were still running and my friends and I had a great time being together, reading, and just being away from the stresses of everyday life elsewhere. Each time we return there are new improvements and we hear that more are planned. The artwork changes from time to time and adds to the feeling that one is in a real home, not a sterile motel-type rental. The bathrooms make you feel pampered and the kitchen is great for inspiring the cooks! We all hope to be back soon.

Quiet and Relaxing

Enjoyed our time in this well equipped beach house. Almost too many kitchen supplies to make room for ours but enjoyed the time cooking with family. The oven cooked everything perfectly. The beachfront was practically all ours. Warning: the boardwalk to the beach is not for the faint of heart. It's quite the walk, so you wouldn't want to make multiple trips back to the house. We did enjoy seeing the wildflowers along the boardwalk but could be a challenge for those with little ones that need potty breaks. The olympic size pool and playground were also a big plus. Seeing the birds at Pelican Point was a neat experience. This is not a beach with waves due to it's location but still enjoyed the tranquility. The house is as described and included plenty of beach toys, chairs and even equipment for crabbing which we never had time for. Be sure to find out if there will be any turtle releases while you are there! Our friends who were staying a few doors down had the inside scoop from the "Turtle Lady" and it was awesome seeing them make it to the ocean. Be sure to check out Hunting Island State Park right next door, and the Marsh Walk at sunset! Johnson's Creek Tavern is a MUST for seafood. Best shrimp and scallops hands down! Be sure to check out the quaint town of Beaufort and Port Royal -- great lunch at Mikki's School House Diner. We had a serendipitous moment with a historian there that told interesting stories about the town. On our one "rain day" we island hopped to Hilton Head (about 1.5 hours but goes quickly w/the scenery). Enjoyed lunch at One Hot Mama's and went to the Tanger Outlets for shopping. We love this area and will be back. PS Bring bug spray, the low country has lots of "no see ums" but worth every minute!

April visit

We found the place cozy, well supplied with bathroom and kitchen essentials and a great location to view the marsh and ocean. We brought dogs and it was a perfect place for them as well. The propane fireplace was perfect for the cool, damp times. The only criticisms we had were 1) there was far too many pots in the kitchen which made it cumbersome to store it all in the cabinets, etc. 2) we would prefer to have the master bedroom on the first floor with the king bed there for more privacy and the view. Definitely is was a tranquil place and very quiet. We love the area as well

A wonderful vacation home

This is the second winter I have spent in Puffin Place and will be coming back next winter. As soon as I walked in I knew it wasn't the typical rental property but a beautiful home, tastefully decorated with a personal touch you don't often find in a rental. It was spotlessly clean, and the kitchen has absolutely everything you could possibly want. The gas fireplace is wonderful on the cold winter mornings. The furniture is very comfortable, unlike many rentals. I love to watch the sunrise over the ocean from the east porch and then the beautiful sunsets over the salt water marsh from the west porch. It is a short walk to the beach where I enjoy the vast variety of bird life and long walks on the beach. I also enjoy all the books, games, and videos they have. I especially like having two separate living areas so my quests and i can watch different TV shows without having to go to one of the bedrooms. I highly recommend Puffin Place for a wonderful vacation.

Nice Location

The location of the property is nice. 5 minute walk to beach. The home is dated and is in need of repairs. We enjoyed the screened in porch more than anything. The house was not clean, dirt under the furniture, in bad need of paint and a intensive / thorough cleaning. The HVC vents were filled with cob-webs, rusted and need replacing. Killed several bugs inside the house.

Owner's Response: We manage 29B Pelican Point and at no time during his visit did this guest apprise us of any complaints with the property. It is a little hard to understand the “dated” comment as the photos of the property are completely accurate and all taken within the last 90 days. We are aware that there are maintenance items that need to happen, like painting and others that have been scheduled for some time, but as the property has been continuously rented for the Summer, it was not possible to have these maintenance items done before the Fall. As to the housekeeping issues, again we were not notified of these concerns – it is our policy to have housekeeping return immediately if there are issues to be resolved in any our properties. We thank the guest for his comments, we only wish they could have been made in a manner that would have allowed us to resolve them while he was here. Thank you, Sea Island Rentals NOTE November 19, 2013: renovations just completed include: new flooring all baths and laundry room, new washer and dryer, new stainless steel stove, new guest bath vanities and countertops, lighting, mirrors and paint; new interior stairway wainscotting and paint; new water heater.
