About Taylor Plumblee

Previously used as our private vacation residence, this home is designed around a fun and eclectic sensibility. We like to have a good time and our home reflects that attitude. It is not your typical mountain home. It's shabby chic with a ton of class thrown in. We love going to our home and it is so charming we feel like we are in the south of France or a charming villa. It's our retreat from a hectic life, our private oasis and a place of peace and serenity. We welcome you to our home which is decorated with fantastic and eclectic pieces of art and personalized objects d'art. We hope you will enjoy Morning Star Cottage as much as we do - we are so happy that many of our guests want to come back time and again.

Why Taylor Plumblee chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

We have been traveling to the mountains of North Carolina for years and love the Maggie Valley/Waynesville area because it is so close to SO many places. When a friend put this home on the market we decided it was time to buy so that our family would own a piece of mountain magic. It has proven to be that and more. The one reason we like this home specifically is year round access and the close (less than 10 minutes) to the Blue Ridge Parkway and access to Asheville (25 minutes if Linda is driving). We love this home so much that we hosted a destination wedding for our oldest daughter, where family and friends joined us in the Blue Ridge. It was a wonderful experience, but then again, everything is wonderful at this home. It's a slice of heaven on earth.

What makes this cottage unique

Our home offers year round living and while not mountain top - it is peaceful, serene and surrounded by the sound of rustling trees and lush mountain settings. It has super easy access to surrounding towns and cities and a driveway that is accessible year round. It is also located in Maggie Valley Club which is one of the premier mountain golf courses in all of Western North Carolina and some great winter skiing at Cataloochee Ski Resort. The location is ideal for traveling to art events, fall leaf looking, arts, mountain music festivals and Lake Junaluska. There is so much to see and do in Western North Carolina and our home is a perfect mountain getaway in a charming and chic setting. The back porch is the crown jewel of the house and where we spend most of our time as we watch the fireflies light up the NC sky at night. It's pure magic.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Very satisfied with the accommodations. No complaints of any kind. We’ve stayed in, or around Maggie Valley a half dozen times. This facility combines a happy balance of good location, accessibility (all paved), well maintained home and reasonable views! Wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

Relaxing mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was the second of what I hope to be many stays for my wife and me at this lovely, very comfortable, and conveniently located cottage. The house is always spotlessly clean when we arrive and everything we need is available. The pictures posted on VRBO cannot fully capture how beautiful the surroundings and views are from the living room, deck, or screened porch. A special treat for us is watching the many different species of birds which come to the bird feeders suspended from the deck. Evenings are warmed by the fire in the living room fireplace. There is good lighting for reading (frequently not considered in many vacation rental properties), paths for walking on the grounds, and only nature sounds at night for a soothing sleep. The owner is accommodating and provides a great deal of useful information regarding arrival and things to do in the area. We just left and are already planning a return in the near future.

Morning Star Cottage - What a Delightful Experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently stayed at Morning Star Cottage and loved it. My daughter didn't want to leave! The home is warm, welcoming and beautifully decorated. It has the feel of a home - cozy and loved. The location is very convenient - we were able to travel to Asheville very easily as well as to Waynesville. Can't say enough about how beautiful and relaxing this home is - we sat on the back porch looking at the trees and mountains while watching hummingbirds at the bird feeder. We will definitely go back and have already recommended it to friends.

A great place to relax.

  • 4 of 5

The Morning Star is a great place to relax. Sitting on the side of the hill, close to the golf course, it invites you in with warm and comfortable furnishings. Very clean. There is plenty of sitting area inside, but we found the screened in deck the perfect spot with comfy sitting and birds and squirrels to watch. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed, except a pizza cutter, but we made due. There is a bath and half upstairs and one downstairs. The bedrooms, one up and one down both have very comfortable beds. We loved all the windows, opened all the blinds and let the light in. Our four legged friends loved the Morning Star as well. If you happen to be on motorcycles, I think you would love it here because you would have covered parking and paved drive.

Thanks for sharing your home with us, we found it very comfortable and relaxing.

Quiet Retreat in Good Location

  • 3 of 5

The property was in a very quiet location and easy to find. No high mountains to travel over, yet close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Waynesville, and Asheville for day outings. Publix in Waynesville close for grocery shopping. One bedroom is downstairs, and the stairs are fairly steep. With a crawling baby, we had to block off the top of the steps. Several steps to enter the cabin from the outside for those with step considerations. All of the rooms are a good size for doing what you need to do. Bed comfortable. The bedroom downstairs was rather musty-smelling when we arrived, but with a candle and the window air-conditioning unit, it improved. The kitchen is well-equipped. I found the decorations a bit unusual--in a two foot area there was a wooden carved black bear and a picture of a Grecian urn and a German cuckoo-clock. There are several faux floral arrangements that are old and dusty; of all the décor, I think replacing those would add an immediate uplift. The light over the kitchen table was candelabra and two of the three lights were out, so we didn't have light there like we needed. Overall, average.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are proud of our consistent 5-star rating, but we are also open to suggestions. I would like to address a few of your comments: This house is unique in style and decorating. It is eclectic with a mix of original art and sculptures. In the words of a former guest, “This beautiful get-away is packed full of charm. I love the decor and the intricacies with which each room is tastefully appointed. We made a game of choosing our favorite things from each room. I recommend that game because it makes you really study the details.” We love unusual art although I know that all art is subjective and may not be to everyone’s taste. Light bulbs are provided free and we have all sizes, shapes and wattage as well as many lamps in well-lit rooms. If we had known, I guarantee we could have informed you to look in the kitchen cabinets for replacement light bulbs. We keep a large stock for outages. However, in the future our awesome housekeeper will check all lights. This is a good suggestion and easily resolved. As for stairs, we are cognizant of the fact that we have both interior and exterior stairs in the cottage. I believe we share this fact on our VRBO web site. This is not a home for small children. Stairs are often an attraction of curiousity for wee children and we always think of safety first. Nothing is more important to us than the well-being of our children and especially your children as well. We take pride in providing FREE gift bags for guests, free toilet paper, free toiletries, kitchen supplies, and more. We want our guests to be happy, healthy, and satisfied. Most of all, we want you to enjoy our home during your vacation without breaking your budget. For any future guests who are reading this, we are only a phone call away to respond to your needs. Additionally, our caretaker lives close to the house. Thank you again for your comments, There is always room for improvement. We wish you a great 2016 and all God’s blessings. Cheers Linda Parvin Hutchinson, Owner

Vacation of a Lifetime!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently got married about 6 months ago and visiting the Morning Star Cottage was a very memorable vacation for us. Linda and her family were very accommodating for the visit and the cottage is absolutely beautiful! The house has everything you need and want to enjoy a very relaxing vacation. It is decorated very nicely. The views are gorgeous from the back porch where you can listen and see nature from a scenic view in the mountains of Maggie Valley, North Carolina. When I here chirping birds it reminds me of feeding the birds from the cottage. The property is centrally located in proximity to Asheville, Waynesville, and Cherokee areas of North Carolina. My wife and I went hiking, shopping, visited Biltmore House, relaxed, site seeing, gambling, and so much more. There is a lot to see and do that you can't do it all in one trip. Eating at Haywood Smokehouse and other BBQ restaurants was so delicious. The southern food in other eateries of NC is food that makes your mouth sweat. We had such a wonderful time during our visit and definitely would recommend the Morning Star cottage to anyone that has a desire to visit.
