The peaceful mountaintop community of Green Valley Lake was developed in the 1930s as a mountain retreat and recreational area. The small village features two restaurants covering breakfast lunch and dinner, a small grocery for the essentials, a small hardware store, and post office (as well as the requisite real estate offices). A three-minute walk takes you to the lake itself with its swimming beach and access to the boat dock where canoes, kayaks, row boats, and paddle boat may be rented (no power boats are permitted). The stocked lake is very popular for fishing either from boats or from the shore. The Green Valley Lake roads are slightly hilly making for leisurely neighborhood walks and enjoying the wide variety of mountain architecture. Well marked trails into the San Bernadino National Forrest are available for the more adventuresome.
The all-cedar cabin was built by noted area designer/builder, Virgl Wilde, with his trademark window framing, functional styling and heavy planked bar in the kitchen. The large deck across the back of the cabin, surrounded by majestic pine trees, provides a combination of sun and shade throughout most of the day for sunbathing, bird watching, or just enjoying the view and refreshing mountain air.
The cozy interior features comfortable seating in the cedar-gabled living room for reading, games, and just relaxing. The amenities include a stereo receiver with CD changer, cable TV with DVD and VCR, and a high speed internet connection. A high bar with stools separates the kitchen from the living room permitting easy chatting during meal preparation in the fully equipped modern kitchen with adjoining dining area for four. Central heating will remove winter's chill within minutes after arrival. The final touch of charm comes from the wood-burning, cast iron Franklin Fireplace.
Steve and Gordon use this highly functional, nicely appointed cabin as a peaceful retreat from the desert heat. We are hoping that you will enjoy this wonderful spot as much as we do.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 1991
The area is very much unspoiled and unchanged since I first saw it in my youth.
Relaxing on the deck or lakeside. Fishing in the well stocked lake, and the seasonal art exhibits. Watching the seasons change.
This is a wonderful, well decorated cabin near the main strip of GVL. Comfortable bed, nicely appointed kitchen (warning- knives are SHARP!) and back deck made for a great Labor Day weekend stay. Everything in the cabin worked great. The main strip is a five minute walk, and has a cool tavern along with a restaurant and grocery store. Every local we met was very friendly.
This cabin was super clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much. Steven was great to work with. Would stay again and have recommended to friends!!
My husband and I, along with our son and grandson, spent 4 wonderful nights at this charming cabin. It is well appointed, conveniently located and so clean and neat we felt more like we were spending our vacation as a guest of friends rather than renting an impersonal rental cabin. Our second son and his family were staying at the campground and they came up for dinner 2 evenings. The cabin and spacious deck accommodated us without crowding. A five minute walk takes you to the village and the lake. Wifi and TV, books and games in the bookcase kept us relaxed and entertained. The perfect getaway! We hope to stay here whenever we visit Green Valley Lake.
We only used the facility for sleeping a couple of nights, but overall it was a delightful place to stay. Steve Caldwell (owner) was very accommodating about providing instructions. Since the owner uses it personally, it was set up and as a home away from home... not for commercial purposes. Therefore, it felt like home. While very small, the "Love Shack" is complete and well laid out, especially for two people. It is obviously being well-maintained. Moreover, if you're a fisherman, it is only a 10 minute walk to Green Valley Lake.
Except for the market in the village, none of the restaurants were open, so we drove to Arrowbear and Running Springs for our meals. The food at "Blondies Grill & Bar" was excellent. All things considered, we would have no problem renting the "Love Shack" again........

This was the third time we stayed at the Love Shack
We had a great time The cabin was perfect The long driveway made it easy to park the truck and jeep trailer We will definitely be back Thank You
Very clean, well kept cabin, even the bed sheets smelled like they were just washed the same day. The kitchen had what we needed for cooking. This place is close to town so it's an easy walk.
Excellent place to stay, highly recommended.
