The East Lake Victorian Mansion was built in 1890 by the Spencer family. It is an elegant and spacious home that accommodates large families or groups and is comfortable for year round enjoyment.
It is located in Thompson PA on route 171 just 11 miles north of Elk Mountain. Thompson is a tranquil little town where you can hear the sound of church bells throughout the day.
The Spencer House has three well furnished parlors that make for comfortable socializing. Enjoy the privacy of two separate dining rooms or one large dining room simply by opening the massive folding doors that divide the dining room in half. When they are closed one room has eight massive wood doors that give the feeling of an English manor home. The other half of the dining room has an enormous built in server with a pass through to the kitchen. Together the two dining rooms create a hostess’ dream. The fully equipped kitchen was recently updated; it is a cook’s delight.
The Spencer house can comfortably sleep up to sixteen people. There are seven bedrooms plus a finished attic with additional beds. Three full baths and two powder rooms ensure comfort for you and your guests. Large groups can truly enjoy the space and surroundings of this exquisite home. A sprawling front porch with hammocks and wicker furniture add to the delight of a summer night. Enjoy skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Warm weather activities include antiquing, hiking, horseback riding, boating and fishing. And the best part is that all of these activities are within minutes of this elegant home.

My wife and I have been skiing in PA for 20 years. We started at Shawnee and Blue Mountain and advanced to Camel Back with an occasional run up to Hunter. We heard nice things about Elk Mountain, bigger, better and beautiful views. We made the hour north trip from the Poconos to the Endless Mountains and never went back!
Alfred and Agnes purchased this estate in 2003
We loved the area so much that we invested in a house there. Four years of restoration later we were able to stay in it and now we can offer it to those who want a great ski/mountain/summer vacation without spending all of their time traveling to the vacation. The Endless Mountains are just that, they seem to go on to the horizon. Some of the best views are on Ridge Road which is a short cut between Elk and Thompson. After a day on the slopes catch the sunset on Ridge Road (breathtaking) and home to a cozy and elegant home.
We love to ski and snowmobile in the winter. There is a big parade and fireworks on the fourth of July. Blueberry picking just down the road with the berries as big as nickels. It is quiet and life stands still just steps away from the house. Take a hike on the trail or take one of the bikes out for a ride. Many golf courses await you, or would you rather ride a horse? There is enough to enjoy or take a book and swing on the hammock. This is what a vacation should be- relaxing! Did I mention we are smack dab in the middle of the lake region?
We just stayed at the Spencer House for a long ski weekend and had a wonderful time! We were having a hard time finding lodging to accommodate our group of 14 adults. We needed to be close enough to ski Elk Mtn, but have enough room so we aren't on top of each other!
The Spencer House was the perfect fit. The home is absolutely beautiful and obviously well cared for. Each couple had their own private room plus we had a TON of space on the main level for relaxing, cooking and dining. By the way our group LOVES to cook, the kitchen went well beyond our expectations. Plenty of pots/pans/utensils- you name it! The home truly has everything you need to feel right at home.
I'd also like to mention the homeowners, Agnes & Alfred, were simply lovely to work with. You really can tell that they love this home and were happy to share it with us. I would highly recommend the Spencer House to anyone looking in the area, it is truly a amazing property.
Our family spent a great weekend enjoying each other's company, staying up late, playing cards and swapping old stories. Some of us travelled across the country and it was well worth it for the location was a perfect for a large family to relax and spend quality time.
We rented the Spencer House last year for the long Thanksgiving weekend. We were looking for a location that could accommodate our large extended family for a reunion of sorts. Upon entering you immediately felt like you were at home. This grand old-world Victorian home easily accommodated over 30 members of our family, for an old-fashioned Thanksgiving dinner. It was no surprise that its huge gourmet kitchen contained everything that we needed to prepare a gourmet Thanksgiving dinner, but the amazing thing was that there was ample table service to sit everyone at the same time. We were able to set the table with such beautiful matching china, crystal and silverware which truly made our feast look like something strait out of a Norman Rockwell painting. After dinner there was plenty of room for everyone to relax and watch football while all the kids had a blast playing up in the attic, which was stocked full of toys and comfy beds. The bedrooms were spacious and beautifully decorated with period antiques. The owners were very easy to work with and super accommodating. I would highly recommend this house to those who are looking for a very special and unique property to have a special event like a wedding or a family reunion.
I was priviledged to stay at Spencer House for a summer weekend.. The house is quietly elegant and yet still warm and sooo comfortable. I am reminded of an English manor house when I view the wood panneling, the master staircase and the exquisite.carvings made from wood from local maple trees. The antique furniture is of superior quality and true to the Victorian Era .A visit is truly a step back in time to a kinder, gentler and gracious way of living. We also enjoyed the Local Ice Cream Parlor and our visits to nearby lakes. If you come you will leave with many great memories!
