Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Our Home is suited to discerning guests, couples or families. It has been set up for our family and friends so is NOT the usual rental place. Even though it is a 3 bedroom home, the main living level has main bedroom so the downstairs area (with 2 bedrooms and study) can easily be separated off if not required so it is still very good for just 1 couple.

There is no other place like Queenstown. Uniquely spectacular, and combining all sorts of adventure and relaxation activity, beautiful scenery, and the wonder of the outdoors, with world class shopping, entertainment, restaurants and bars.

Four distinct seasons and four different appeals to the senses. Our Home has panoramic views over Lake Wakatipu and the mountains. It is a few minutes into the heart of Queenstown, and an ideal stepping off place for local sightseeing.

International visitors 'downunder' should do OZ and NZ in the one trip and marvel at the contrasts. Locals will know that Queenstown is the adventure capital of the Asia Pacific region, and is like the Swiss Alps just a few hours from home.

About Adelle

I am semi retired and move between Queenstown and Sydney, where my family live. I love scenery and gardens and find Queenstown an ideal place to enjoy with family and friends.

Adelle purchased this house in 2000

Why Adelle chose Southern Lakes

We fell in love with Queenstown after staying just one night in 1968. We love the location and after all this time, it is still beautiful. We have been able to share this with our family and friends and now open it to select guests.

What makes this house unique

Our Home is on the Queenstown Hill above the town where you can relax inside or outside on one of the numerous decks and enjoy the scenery.

We have modified our Home to make it comfortable and cosy and it is a pleasure to be in, regardless of the season.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Liz and Adelle,

I wanted to thank you for an absolutely wonderful stay in your beautiful house. It was so comfortable and lovely, we had such a special family vacation in it. And those views! It was hard leaving today. :) Everything was perfect.

Thank you again,

Susan

Great house, amazing views

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly remarkable property, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a vacation house in the Queenstown area.

First, it's huge! Second, it's very well appointed with modern appliances, conveniences, dishware, etc. Third... and to us, most importantly... the view of the town and lake are simply outstanding.

Thank you so much, Ken & Adelle Alexander, for opening up your home to VRBO and to us.

We hope to be back, and we would love to stay here again.

A word about the location... it's up a pretty steep hill. This was no issue for us as we are from a very hilly area and are used to it. We were here to hike and climb (among other things) so the walk up to the house was just fine. But for those not prepared for it (or able to do it), you'll want to hire a taxi from town.

Owner's Response: Our Home is positioned for privacy even though it is on the Queenstown Hill. It is rare to find a place with a reserve in front. For those who like to walk to town there is access through the reserve for an easier, more scenic route.

Fantastic home, views, location, and hospitality!

WOW!! This home was spectacular and had everything we needed. Was very hard to leave.

Property manager Julia was extremely helpful as she met us at the property and provided a tour as well as suggestions on the essential things to do in Queenstown.

My father who is a homebuilder in the US even commented on the high quality work throughout the house, which he typically does not do. Huge windows and sliding doors throughout allow you to take in the gorgeous sunrises and views from the several decks unobstructed.

Thank you so much for sharing with us! If I make it back to Queenstown this house will be at the top of my list!

Owner's Response: Our Home is ideal for those who do not want stark, minimalistic modern decor. It is comfortably furnished and great for relaxing. It is architecturally designed to take in the views from every room and balcony and also to take advantage of the sun.

We had a spectacular week in Queenstown in this lovely home. Perfect for 3 couples. You will never tire off the views. Kitchen is well equipped. Host is accessible and responsive.

Owner's Response: Whether there are 3 couples or just 1 couple, our Home is perfect as unused bedrooms downstairs can be easily closed off. The main bedroom is on the same level as the living area with direct entry from the road, so any guests with walking difficulty don't need to use any steps.

Spectacular views and comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

We were 2 couples that spent almost a week in late February. The layout is ideal for this type of arrangement. Master is on the main floor (king bed) and the other 2 bedrooms on the lower floor with access to the garden (Queen & 2 singles). The kitchen is pretty well stocked for cooking & eating with a supply of basic staples that you replace if you finish them. Julia was very efficient in helping us settle in with the keys and instructions. The pre-arrival information, questions, payments were all done promptly. Thank you Liz! The car rental was very useful. The house itself was very clean and the floor plan is very spacious with two large living areas, plenty of seating space, several balconies and with well more than 180 degree views of the lake and the Remarkables - several floor to ceiling windows - perched high up along the hill top...so no need to even consider taking the cable car up the mountain for views! The views along some parts of the front balcony, were somewhat obstructed only by a few trees-shrubs that if trimmed down a bit would have been ideal. This was a perfect place to come back to each evening and wake up to each morning. We were able to walk down the steep hill to the city centre, a tougher walk up but doable if not too hot outside. Otherwise, drive down and find parking, a little challenging but possible. We enjoyed pink sunsets on most evenings and used the BBQ, on the rear patio, several times. The house itself is very clean, somewhat dated, with some upgrades over the years. The kitchen itself seemed to have been re-done in the past 10 years likely. Granite counters, ceramic tiles and newer appliances. Bathrooms more dated but large and efficient. Carpeting throughout if that is a consideration for people with allergies. The house itself is close to the street with passing cars during the day, the master bedroom closest to the street. However, it was not too busy in the evening and didn't really bother our sleep. Unfortunately, the internet speed was somewhat slow and spotty at times, unfortunately just like many places we visited throughout NZ. The areas listed for improvement did not hinder our enjoyment but only mentioned for consideration. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the house & Queenstown doing several day trips, including a beautiful flight over to Milford Sound one morning. Thank you for sharing your home with us Adelle. We would highly recommend it to anyone without hesitation!

Beautiful home in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We spent 9 days in Queenstown and setup shop here with 4 adults and 2 kids. House was Ina. Top location with spectacular views and we were made to feel very welcome on arrival. Proximity to both the city and the ski fields was perfect and it was a great place to relax in after a day out and about. Would happily stay again.

Truly is home away from home

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful home! My family of 9 ( 6 adults and 3 children under 7) have just experienced a wonderful week in Queenstown . As some of the family had never seen snow it was a great experience and I feel made even better by having this beautiful family home to return to after our full days of exploring what Queenstown and surrounds had to offer. The views alone were breathtaking . We certainly hope to return one day . Thank you to Julia for being so helpful on our arrival. Thank you to Adelle for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home .
