Amersfoort is a quaint and charming city located in the heart of the Netherlands (e.g. 30 minutes from Amsterdam city center by public transport, 45 minutes from Schiphol Airport by public transport; less then 1,5 hours travel to face Rembrandt's Nightwatch in the Rijksmuseum. Our vacation home 'Johan' is situated in the historical city center of Amersfoort. The old building originates from approximately 1750. The name 'Johan' is derived from Johan van Oldenbarneveld. He was an influential statesman who was born near our B&B in September 1547.

Our vacation home features all of today's modern conveniences and design. Maintaining and blending its original 1750 architectural details with contemporary Dutch design created a comfortable, homey setting to relax in style. It features two bedrooms, a luxurious bathroom, and an open-design living and dining space with comfortable furnishings and seating for six. It's kitchen is fully equipped for all of your needs. Our home accommodates sleeping for six. Too boost your experience choose amongst our many upgrades for a nominal fee: crib rental, child's bed rental, breakfast served, room tidying, afternoon tea and biscuits, fresh squeezed juices with cut fruit, etc.).

Each destination worth visiting (within the Netherlands) is max 1.5 hours' drive away. The house is also very convenient for overseas professionals working in or near Amersfoort for a longer period of time up to three months.

We are fully trained in English and can accommodate all of your language needs. We also speak German and French.

About Ingrid Winterink

This is me, Ingrid. Together with my husband, Henk, we purchased the 'Johan House' in 2008 when our backyard neighbor moved out making it available. This opportunity happens only once in a lifetime. We meticulously renovated it to meet all of our dreams and are thrilled to open it for business. Next to running the vacation home, we also have a catering business, so if you would like to have a meal prepared, ask away!

Why Ingrid Winterink chose Amersfoort

Amersfoort is a quaint and charming city located in the heart of the Netherlands. Amersfoort is a city with a small town coziness and with big city benefits. All facilities like shops, restaurants (you will find a.o. Asian, French, Spanish, Italian, and even TV-award winning Dutch kitchen), museums, cinema and theater are within walking distance. The city of Amersfoort organizes many free of charge open air festivals suitable for kids and/or grown ups.

What makes this house unique

Some of the key features of the 'Johan house' is its unique central location in a very old and charming city center, yet very quiet and safe at night. Around Amersfoort are many natural parks and reserves which can be visited by boat, bicycle or car. We rent out bicycles and can help you in making a nice 'green' itinerary. Public transportation is extremely well organised. All big cities in the Netherlands have direct connections with Amersfoort Central Station.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Ingrid and Henk,

We wanted to thank you again for the tremendous hospitality you extended to us during our stay at Johan B&B. Our stay there was the perfect ending each day to our touring. We've told everyone here how wonderful you both were and how enchanting the B&B was. We loved Amsterdam and Amersfoort and hope to someday return. If we do, we'll definitely contact you to reserve the cottage again. Take care and thanks again for a lovely time.

Lovely house in a great location and a very friendly host

  • 5 of 5

Our family (two adults and two children) spent about three weeks at this lovely house located within the old part of the town of Amersfoort. The house is located among narrow cobblestoned streets and we nearly had a heart attack when we arrived and thought about how and where we would park our car. There were no problems though because we had free access to an underground car-park a short walk from the house.

The house is located a few minutes walk from lots of great shops and restaurants. It is also a central place for visits around The Netherlands including De Hoge Veluwe national park where you can ride the free push bikes.

The house is very well furnished with modern touches and includes a nice kitchen with all the facilities you could hope for.

The host, Ingrid, was super helpful e.g. loaning our kids a soccer ball so they could play in the nearby park and did everything she could to ensure our visit was as pleasant as possible.

We would definitely recommend this place - Ian, Mira and kids ...

OMG this place is awesome

  • 5 of 5

My family came from Amersfoort long ago (1625) and I had done some research and decided to visit as a family so that the children would gain appreciation for their heritage. The Johan house was absolutely idea for this in every way. It is directly situated on a charming quiet street but yet directly in the center of town. The children greatly enjoyed riding bikes everywhere to explore the town and coming back to the house as an easy to find home base. I travel a lot for work and Amersfoort is one of the most beautiful old European towns that I have visited: safe, clean, friendly, quiet, huge old town market square, great places to dine by a canal and a lively night life. Back to the house: it is stunning well designed in the restoration that Ingrid and her husband recently completed so while the house has the old world charm it is completely updated. You will find it very clean, well equipped and great internet wifi. Typical of the Dutch, well kept and homey but not sterile. The bedrooms are great and so are the bathrooms. Ingrid was also so kind to do some grocery shopping for us before we arrived as we would be coming in as a full family jet-lagged from a long journey. That small gesture was a huge help for us.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had the privilege to stay in this delightful home and it exceeded all our expectations. Perfectly located and walking distance to the train station. The house was very clean and the sunny courtyard was the perfect place to sit

with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine after a long day of sightseeing. Ingrid is delightful and very helpful with information about shopping and places to see in Amersfoort. I would absolutely recommend this charming home and without a doubt will return in the future.

We had a wonderful time during our stay in Amersfoort. Not only

did we visit the town we were able to easily tour other parts of the country

... Amsterdam, Utrecht, Deventer, De Hogue Veluwe and Leiden. Johan house couldn't have been a better base for our travels. A great location and a wonderful place to

come home to each day. In addition Ingrid was a warm and attentive host. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Johan huis for 10 days while visiting family in Holland. Ingrid, the owner, was very helpful and we really appreciated her attention to all the details. The house was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and the location is perfect -- close to all the great shops and restaurants in Amersfoort! We highly recommend staying at this lovely home to anyone visiting The Netherlands! :)
