House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 11)

The Bluemoon is situated at the end of a long white-sand beach, directly on a small private cove called 'Rose Cove by the locals because of the natural beauty of the location. A few steps are all that separate you from the brilliant blue Caribbean waters. The large elevated sundeck provides spectacular views of the South Palmetto Point beach and sunsets over Pineapple Cays just a short distance offshore. We have just added two kayaks for your enjoyment!

This spacious home can sleep 11 people in four bedrooms.4#(Pink Sands) master bedroom has a king bed, a private bathroom and a view of the ocean.1#(The Reef) has three very comfortable single beds 2#) (Sea Shells) Has two full beds and a bunk 3# ( Sea Glass) Has a full , a single. .Each room is individually air conditioned for your comfort. The living room and kitchen area are open and fresh with lots of windows and views of the water across the deck. Shade from the tropical rays is plentiful in the Bahamas room, which is screened in and connects the sundeck to the rest of the house.

The Bluemoon is the ideal location to soak in the tranquil sea or have a sunset cocktail on the deck or our small private beach. Our favorite restaurants are near by ...Unique Village for the best cracked conch on the island, everyone likes the French Leave restaurant 1684 , my personal favorite for lunch is da Perk coffee shop! Runaway Bay Marina is a short walk from the house.

About Howard Mills

Bluemoon is owned by the Mills brothers and their wives. Jeff and Ulrika Mills live in California, Phoebe and Howard Mills live on the coast of South Carolina. We purchased the home from the original owner Ross Rogers , Mr. Rogers is an Architect from Canada and he built the home in the 1970s for his family. He and his family enjoyed many wonderful years on Eluthera. Mr.Rogers was an avid gardener, hence the beautiful tropical gardens!

Howard Mills purchased this house in 2003

Why Howard Mills chose Bahamas

Look no further, if you are looking for peace and tranquility in a tropical island setting! This house is perfect for a large family, the floor plan is layed out like the letter L with the long part of the L being a row of bedrooms each with a sliding glass door that opens up to the amazing blue carribean ocean view. The shorter part of the L being the kitchen , dining, living room area and the middle of the L is the decking ,looking out over the turquoise carribean ocean!

We loved our stay at Blue Moon! We had 3 couples and one young child. And there was still an empty room. The house is spacious and great for large groups and families with kids. The kitchen, living, and dining area are all connected so there is plenty of room for everyone to hang out together or separately. There is also a large screened in porch area with a porch swing as well as a large deck with close up views of the bright blue Caribbean! The landscaping is beautiful and created total seclusion so that you can not see your neighbors at all. Make sure to check out the little stone paths that wind through the garden around all the amazing flowering tropical plants. The property has its own private steps right into a secluded cove! THE SNORKELING IS AMAZING right off the steps! You can also go fishing or kayaking right out of the backyard, and there is a fish cleaning station by the water, (and a grill on the deck). The back yard has a beachy sandy area with a giant old sea grape tree for shade. Great for laying out and for kids to play in the sand. There are also child friendly beaches nearby and they are all different: some are in bays shallow with no waves, others have waves for surfing, others have amazing reefs for snorkeling. All will be the most beautiful most secluded beach you have ever been to! The kitchen was well stocked and there are plenty of sheets, bath and beach towels, and washer and dryer. You will need to bring your own soap, shampoo, toilet paper, etc. There are 2 full bathrooms with showers (one very nice newly renovated!) and one "men's room" with just a toilet. The house is just right, clean and well decorated, but not too fancy so that you don't have to worry about your sandy feet. It is very relaxed and you will not want to leave! Definitely rent a car (a jeep or 4-wheel drive if you really want to explore the island). The locals are very friendly and helpful and it is impossible to get lost. There is a little town with a bank, grocery store, liquor store, and gas station near by. There are also lots of nice little restaurants all over and an organic farm with fresh veggies. Fresh catch of the day at the docks! The island will satisfy a group of people with all different interests: Nature, historic arcitecture, fishing, eating, swimming, and relaxing. The price was amazing especially split among a group. The kitchen and dining area are well suited for people who enjoy cooking. We will be back to Blue Moon for sure!

Great Place close to a wonderfull sea bay

  • 5 of 5

The house is not luxury but nice.

It would need a little bit of maintenace, especially on the outside.

The location is great, and the bay is wonderfull.

If you are looking a vacation to enjoy the seaside and the nature this is a good opportunity.

Negative points: Flies and mosquitoes, especially in the evening or during BBQ

When we arrived nobody introduced and explained the house to us

Owner's Response: So sorry to hear that our caretaker did not arrive and introduce you to the house. We will take care of that right away. I am so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. Wish we could do something about the bugs. Thank you for choosing Bluemoon

A great destination for a large group and adventurous souls!

  • 4 of 5

A spacious home which had the perfect floor plan for a large group. The bedrooms lined up on the left hand side of the large hallway, and the living areas separated by this hallway to an open kitchen,/living area. It is not fancy(a bit shabby in a couple bedrooms), but has enough staple, decent appliances and sturdy household items to be functional--we found the ice-maker especially convenient! The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. The living areas were furnished with a generous amount of seating, although the cushions are a bit tired--we flipped and fluffed and it worked. A newly remodeled bathroom made the 1/2 bath look shabby. Outdoor living areas was beautiful, just a few steps to the water, via steep concrete steps, and a sandy area at which we enjoyed the 2 beach chairs provided (could use a few more chairs). The caretaker was contacted in order to get the use of the chairs locked in the basement, and the 4 kayaks promised- the most fun adventure (besides the prop plane ride from Nassau) I had! There were also 2 pedal bikes, but they both had flat tires and there's nowhere to go anyway. The kitchen had a smell of mouse urine and some droppings in the cabinets & numerous wasp nests outside(one of the kids got stung)--there was only an empty bottle of wasp spray under the sink, however, and the caretaker, although helpful in informing us the telephone was broken (it was fixed on "Island time" 4 days later), and able to help us figure out the fan/light configuration and get us batteries for the empty remote-controls, was informed of the nests, did not attempt to treat them during the duration of our stay. Screened room was a great place to relax on the swinging love-seat.

The island: no street signs, stores are unmarked with indiscriminate hours of operation, numerous restaurants and local watering holes where the drinks are generously strong, Island prices ($$$). we brought and cooked our own meals 90% of the time--everything but fresh fruit and veg are ok to bring through customs. 4-wheel drive down a road to a remote beach to see a wreck, &the beach was strewn with plastic debris and trash burns on a daily basis. gems: Tippy's bar, French Leave restaurant. Talk to the locals at the roadside tiki hut bars, great way to learn tips. Bug spray: no-see-ums will get you! Best bread: Island farm, a short ride south. $5 water taxi to Harbor Island, $50 golf cart/day, it's a fun adventure. visit the blue holes, and lighthouse beach

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to reveiw Bluemoon. Your input is so important in helping us decide what needs to be done ect.. 1) I would like to address the smell in the kitchen , it has been taken care of . It was not a mouse and we did a very complete search! The house has been exterminated! I also posted a note to ask guest to leave shells out side they often create odors. If any future guess notice smells or something that does not look clean , we ask that you contact us right away, we really care about your stay and we also want our home to be as clean and pleasant as possible. 2 ) lawn chairs we do have plenty of lawn chairs and they are locked under the house so that they remain in good condition for our guest, so sorry they should have been taken out before your arrivial. I have spoken to our wonderful caretaker and he is on it. Sorry 3) As for the bikes they are our private bikes and I agree unless you are a real biker there are no bike trails ect 4) Wasp nest and spray, I have our gardener on alert! He will get rid of them as he becomes aware. I have also stocked all cabinets with spray Sorry.5) As for renovations , we are so excited about the progress we have made and continue to make, we made many improvements this summer 2016 ! We are still a work in progress , you should be able to get a feel for the house by looking at the photos . We are a relaxed beach house with a wonderful floor plan perfect for large groups on one of the most beautiful spots on the island , named Rose Cove by the locals because of the natural beauty!Thank you for helping us create a more wonderful experenice for our next guest

amazing getaway with minor limitations

  • 4 of 5

Overall the bluemoon in an amazing place! To mention is

-the location (In the center of the island so it's a great starting point for day trips)

- it is spacious with an open kitchen / living area / dining area

- it has its own little beach (sandy area) and entrance to the ocean

- you can see perfect sunsets from the terrace

We don't give 5 stars because

- the house is a little run down and a little smelly (it smells old... at least not fresh. If the sheets and towels were washed before our arrival then definitely without washing powder)

- there is huge difference between the rooms. You can see which ones have been renovated and which ones still need to be. Not sure if the first room can be used at all. Fortunately we didn't have to use it. The master bedroom on the other hand is fantastic.

- there are furniture missing outside the house like some sun loungers. It's really a pity that there is no kayak at the house as the scenery wants to be discovered by one :)

But comparing price/ benefit this is a great place and we would definitely come again! We had a fantastic time. Definitely recommended!

Best Place in Eleuthera

  • 5 of 5

This is my 6th time in Eleuthera. And our best! A lot of our pleasure is due to our accommodations at Blue Moon. Let me highlight just a few.

1. Nonpretentious yet beautiful home. It's nice; but not in a way that makes you feel as though you're not allowed to touch anything. Every needed amenity has been thought of through the years. There's plenty of space to spread out. Even if we had brought the max number of people, the home would have held us comfortably. The screened porch is relaxing and spacious. The large veranda has a perfect view to the nightly gorgeous sunsets. We were able to set up cameras for time-lapse capture of the sunset. The outdoor shower is excellent after time in the teal Caribbean. The kitchen is amply stocked with every utensil know to man: knives, cutting boards, grinders, spices, ice maker, microwave, coffee maker, filters, measuring cups, etc. Usually in Eleuthera, you'll need to bring something with you. Not here. Towels are provides. Linens are clean and soft. Books on the area are plentiful. Games and movies are abundant.

2. The owner. Howard is an excellent host. He provides a great staging venue for a vacation to remember. He was extraordinarily generous when an October hurricane kept us from flying out from our point of origin, allowing us a last minute reschedule for February. Howard is prompt with responses to all emails or calls. We felt very comfortable contacting him with any questions.

3. The waterfront. I have mentioned the unbeatable sunsets. And honestly, the basic snorkeling and swimming right off of the steps of blue moon are perfect. The bay is protected from most winds though the constant breeze is refreshing. You enter the water via the steps and are immediately waist deep in water that has soft white sand as its base (The first picture on the listing shows it perfectly). The rock ledges have a variety of small fish and sea creatures. I wouldn't fish there; but 100yards to the right is an old community beach pier. We never saw a single soul on this beach, but the fishes around the pier were much larger and better suited to fishing. From the water there we were able to see dolphins, a sea turtle, shrimp, blue tang (Dori), pin fish, crab, etc. Yes, there are probably better dive spots by boat. But this is the perfect starter spot. And here we didn't have to wait to return in order to rinse off. The outdoor shower instantly removed the salt and sand from our bodies.

4. South Palmetto Point: We had easy acce

Comfortable and excellent value.

  • 5 of 5

We had three couples stay at Bluemoon for five nights. The open floor plan of the main living area was spacious and comfortable. There are plenty of bedrooms that could easily accommodate large groups. With all of the windows, there was never a need for air conditioning as being on the water gives you great ocean breezes. The kitchen is well appointed and the only appliance it is missing is a microwave, but we never noticed until right before we left. There is a new bathroom which is quite nice and spacious. There was always plenty of hot water for all six of us. You do need to supply toilet paper.....not a big deal as it's available at the convenience store down the road. It was clean and is definitely someplace I would stay with my children.

As for location, the cove that it's in is BEAUTIFUL! We had a blast snorkeling and kayaking. My brother was able to kayak out to a pod of dolphins. We also caught crabs along the rocks. Rays visited in the morning. Had a Bon fire at night. There is a big beach just down the shoreline that's great for sunbathing and beach combing.

There are also so many amazing beaches within a short drive. I suggest driving south. Some of the beaches were the most beautiful I have ever seen. Just south on the main highway is the Island Farm. The produce is outstanding along with the bread twice a week. Get in line early! Great fruits, beautiful greens for salads and incredibly beautiful mint for mojitos! Take a drive to Tarpom Bay. Buy some lobster from the fishermen at 3:00. Get some conch salad from Billy and he will prep your lobster for the grill. Best meal we had!

The negatives......and they are minor! Yes, there are bugs. Welcome to a tropical island. Sugar ants appeared every morning. Don't leave anything out and just wipe them up. No big deal. Noseeums are nasty little buggars that are out at dusk and dawn so use bug spray. There are little things about the house that go hand in hand with ocean property and maintenance. There is no Home Depot down the road and the salt air is hard on Everything! To be expected, but nothing impeded our vacation. It is not a fancy marble estate, but it is clean, comfortable and in an amazing location. Howard, the owner was easy to work with and had plenty of information for us and the caretaker Arthur was helpful as well. The Internet did go out for a few days......island wide.

I don't usually visit the same place twice, but I am definitely returning with my kids and grandkids!
