About The Owner

Over the years we have cherished out time together with our children, who are grown now, at Emerald Isle. There is plenty to keep us busy, kayaking in the sound, fishing, golfing, sailing, etc. but mostly we like just sitting on the beach under the shade of the beach umbrella watching the waves roll in and the dolphins playing and doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

The Owner purchased this house in 2001

Why The Owner chose Emerald Isle

We had looked at coastal property off and on over the past twenty years. When we first vacationed on Emerald Isle we knew this was the place we wanted to invest. The moment we saw 'Brand New Day', we knew this was the place for us. We looked at it on New Year's Eve, 2000. We stayed up all night not partying but crunching numbers to figure out if we could make an offer. We made our offer at 9:00am New Year's Day 01-01-01), while pretty much the rest of the island was still asleep. Brand New Day has been a solace for our family the past eight years. Many other families have enjoyed family gatherings at this cozy cottage, to enjoy the simple pleasures of going to sleep to the sound of the ocean, just outside your door and waking to cool sea breezes. There are many larger vacation homes with all the bells and whistles (in fact we own one, Another New Day), but Brand New Day remains our favorite place to gather, relax, renew and reflect. Welcome to our home!

It was a comfortable stay with easy access to the beach

  • 3 of 5

The layout of this home is great. The functionality of this home is great. It needs updating and lots of clean up in various places. The outdoor areas are very nice, but again needs cleaning and updating. The location is great also. Comfortable stay but again needs some TLC. Could be an amazing property. The owners were great to deal with. Very easy to contact, very sweet people.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your review but a little confused about needs updating and TLC. We have updated our flooring to laminate in main areas, lighting, carpet, heating cooling, new roof all in the last 3 years. We havery a lawn maintenance company for the grounds. Please email us to let us know specifically what you what needs TLC

Great place for a family get-together

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I shared the house with our three grown children -- our daughter and grand daughter; our son, with his wife and 1 yr. old baby; and our single adult son. All enjoyed the wonderful big covered porch with latched gate allowing the dog to enjoy being outside with us unleashed; the great view of the water; the high chair and pack-and-play provided; use of the gas grill; the creative art objects enhancing attractive decor; the well-equipped kitchen; and the comfortably upholstered living room furniture.

There were only two reasons for not awarding a full five stars: Some of us found the beds uncomfortably hard, and burned out lights in the living room ceiling made reading difficult at night, but these were minor inconveniences that we ignored compared with all the plus factors. Finding a house with the right distribution of rooms and beds that also accepts dogs is not the easiest task -- we felt lucky to have found this one and would stay again. A little attention to maintaining the lighting, plus the addition of quality mattress toppers to the beds could bring this home five stars on our next visit!

Owner's Response: Thank you Lisa, we are always thrilled to hear great reviews of our home. I wish we had known about the lighting, we could have fixed that immediately. Our maintenence man is paid very well to take care of an issue like this. We gave you his contact info in a text message. He could have been there in less than 5 minutes to either replace bulbs or show you where there was a way switch which I think was the problem. The bedding is fairly new, we went a firmer mattress intentionally but again if we had known we could have sent mattress toppers. If you stay with us in the future we will be glad to get you mattress toppers. Jo Ann

It was wonderful. Everything was just as promised for a great vacation.

Great beach access. When we arrived the property was the cleanest on the inside of any of our past rentals. We had everything we needed and left the property only one night to go out and eat and play golf with the kids. The porch with the view of the ocean made for great coffee sipping in the AM and relaxation at night. We would definitely book this property again.

Nice home

  • 3 of 5

This home was a simple house with great beach access. Unfortunately there was no toilet paper or soap and other basic supplies which were listed as to be provided by the homeowner. It was very inconvenient! Other homes I have rented and hotels had these basic necessities. Also, the hot tub was small and the 4th bedroom was more or less a closest off the door to the house. Although it had a bunkbed, I did not feel comfortable having my younger children there with the access to the exterior and difficulty accessing the rest of the home in the evening. There were several weird issues with the floor that my family kept tripping over. In addition, the technology/TV was very outdated. I couldn't play movies in the evenings. Overall, the beach access was the best thing about this house. If you just need a place to sleep, I would recommend it for the price. If you want a retreat, keep looking.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review of our home. There is normally starter toilet paper provided during the peak season as our housekeeper supplies it. You stayed with us the first of May, I'm thinking she forgot to bring it. However we have never listed in our amenities that toiletries are provided. I went though our listing and didn't see anywhere that we provide it. When you brought this to our attention we did have housekeeping bring some. I'm not sure why you couldn't play movies, we have a DVD player and was not made aware if it was a problem with it. Our hot tub is a 3-4 max person tub, there is a picture of it on the website. The ground level bedroom is small with a half bath, but it's not "closet" size and it's not off the front door, it's off a foyer area of the ground level entrance. Security is not an issue as the bedroom door can be locked and both entrances have deadbolt locks. We always tell our guest if they inquire about the sleeping arrangements that this bedroom is not suitable for adults or very small children.. It is on the ground level, but that is listed in the description. This week we moved the bunk bed upstairs, so now we have the bunk plus a twin bed on the mail level and a twin bed on the ground level. I stayed there 4 days last week doing some painting, I enjoyed the view, the sound of the ocean and sitting on the covered deck, reading. It felt very much like a cottage retreat. We will be enlarging our ground level in the next year, which will include a larger bedroom and full bath

Second row house a short sandy path away from the beach

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed a lovely time on this property . This house is second row, just a few steps on a sandy path away from the beach. The well maintained home is bright and airy with a nice view of the ocean. The owners were quick to respond to a couple of minor issues with the dishwasher and hot tub. Overall we would definitely consider staying here again.
