About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

True country home on Silver Lake. Swim, boat, ice skate, sled from the back lawn. Unique 4+ BR house offers comfort of stone fireplace, hiking, swimming, boating, snowshoe, x-country skiing just out the door! Moments walk from Country Store for daily needs. Seasonal and surge pricing. Both bathrooms have tubs & shower (one with hand-held shower, not overhead). The nearby Barnard General store was revived with help from the community and is now run by lovely young couple, Joe and Gillian.

This house, carefully tended by the family who has owned it for two generations, is simultaneously spacious and cozy. The four bedrooms are spaced widely for privacy, with three upstairs and one on the ground floor. For your convenience, a bathroom is located on each floor.

The kitchen is well-equipped, with a large refrigerator and extensive shelf storage, suitable preparing a humble breakfast or a feast for a dozen guests.

The centerpiece of the great room on the ground floor is a large stream-stone fireplace, surrounded by couches and rocking chairs. A few steps takes you to the sun room, running the entire length of the house and looking out over Silver Lake.

Out the back door, you will find a seating area with a fire pit, overlooking the slope down to the lakeside. The lake itself provides boating and swimming and boating in summer, and skating in winter. An extensive network of trails can be hiked, biked or run year-round, although skis or snowshoes might be necessary in the snowy months.

Great place to relax

  • 4 of 5

Nice place to stay with family or friends. Great open space on the lower floor to enjoy the lake view and stay warm around the fireplace. We had a unusually cold weekend in November that we relaxed around the fireplace.

Nice cottage on beautiful lake

  • 4 of 5

We loved the quaint cottage and used it as a base camp to view fall foilage. Cottage could use some comfortable furniture but the overall experience was pleasant.

It was such a pleasure to stay at this gorgeous lake house. 5 friends were happy and comfortable, enjoyed beautiful views and a crackling fire. We'll be back in the summer!

Lovely place for tiny wedding!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a lovely stay here over a January weekend. My husband and I got married in front of the cozy fireplace! We love old houses and this had all the charm and ambience we could ask for. Well equipped. We enjoyed a day in Woodstock and a visit to Billings Farm Museum. Had our wedding dinner at the Barnard Inn less than a mile down the road. Would love to come stay again in the summer when the lake is in full swing. What I love about this area is that it has managed to maintain all the old charm of my lovely state. If you are looking to for a quintessential Vermont experience, this would be the place to visit.
