About Shelli

My husband and I bought this home a few months before we got married and have enjoyed taking friends and family to it to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We were living in Silt, which is about an hour from Powderhorn, but my husband was lucky enough to get into the Colorado School of Mines to study Petroleum Engineering. So we have relocated to Littleton while he attends school.

I am a stay at home mom to our son Parker and also work for the Colorado Broadcasters Association. I enjoy photography and coaching volleyball.

Shelli purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Shelli chose Northwest Colorado

We love the seclusion of our home, you can sit out on our deck and see the wild animals, sit in our hot tub at night and watch the shooting stars.

What makes this cabin unique

If you love to relax, you will love our large jetted tub and our steam shower.

Family reunion. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Just a couple of suggestions. We were predominantly a senior citizen group and would have appreciated knowing that there was no bathroom on the basement level. Also for safety sake, there should be a handrail all the way up the stairs from the basement to the main level. It is a beautiful home, well furnished in every way and very comfortable.

Owner's Response: Glad you all had a great time. I guess I am a little confused by your review. There is a bathroom in the basement. There are two bedrooms in the basement and a full bathroom. There are also two bathrooms on the main level and one upstairs.

I agree with David R - potential but needs TLC

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at this cabin last year for two weeks in July. I private messaged the owner regarding issues we felt should be addressed for future guests but never got a response back. After reading the review posted by David R for a March 2017, have decided to post a public review. The cabin has great potential but had several housekeeping and maintenance issues and we would not consider this cabin for a future visit unless they were taken care of.

Housekeeping Issues:

1. Linens were stuffed into drawers and not folded well which left them full of wrinkles, etc. In one linen drawer, we found mounds of mouse droppings and an actual mouse trap. The top sheet on the Queen Bed in the lower level bedroom was so wrinkled it would lead a guest to believe it had not been stripped and clean linens placed.

2. The area around and the tops of the washer and dryer were very dirty.

3. There were numerous food and beverage stains on the wood floors when we arrived.

4. There were no washcloths in the cabin and only 2 hand towels.

5. The small appliances and utensil drawers in the kitchen were dirty.

1. The upper rack on the dishwasher would fall off the tracks and we had to be very careful using it.

2. The deck railing on the hot tub side of the deck was dangerously loose. We cautioned the kids not to lean on it as we were afraid it could give way.

3. The “sticking” doors. You have to slam the doors to get them to shut. The door to the deck and the door to the master bedroom deck need new plates as they couldn’t be locked. Guests bring valuables with them and want to know they can lock the cabin when they leave. We have stayed in multiple log cabins and have never experienced such a problem with doors.

4. The Gas Grill would not work and was very dirty.

Hopefully, these problems have been resolved. I would caution future guests to check before booking.

Owner's Response: Joyce, I am so sorry, I never received anything from you regarding our cabin. As of January 1st, I have a new house keeper and property manager. That has taken care of item 1-3. There are plenty of washcloths and hand towels. All of the kitchen has been cleaned and reorganized. The deck railing has all been fixed, we have added more deck screws to all of them. The "sticking" doors come with the log cabin. The logs shrink and expand due to the weather. All the doors lock. There is a brand new small gas grill up there

Nice House but needs a lot of TLC

  • 3 of 5

Great set-up, location, and floor plan, but the house needs some attention. The windows and doors work poorly - signs everywhere saying not to use them. Owner should hire a carpenter. The oven was filthy. Every kitchen cabinet and drawer is in disarray - a lot of utensils, but many could be thrown away. House holds 12 but only 2 wine glasses? The rugs, carpets, and couch slip covers were dirty. The Wii had one disk that worked (all the rest were too scratched) - none of the Xbox disks work. Pets aren't allowed yet this house has dog odor and the automatic scent sprayers don't hide it. In the bedroom on the main floor the TV only plays DVDs (no cable or antennae) yet there are only two disks to watch, "Yes Man", and "Dragon Tales". When we checked in there were more than 50 dead flies on the floor and a couple of dead roaches The towels were very scratchy, smelled bad, and the washcloths looked like rags. Driveway was shoveled but the walkway to the front door wasn't. The kitchen faucet is very loose. The laundry room and W/D need cleaning, especially the dirt in the tray the washer sits in. We had 2 mice visit us in the game room. Exit instructions say to clean, sweep, vacuum, and wash dishes and towels - what's the cleaning fee for? This house sleeps 12 but the BBQ grill will only cook for maybe six. Great balcony but no chairs to enjoy it from, much less a table. Has potential to be a great place, but need some serious TLC.

Owner's Response: This is a log cabin, you can expect to have flies and mice. I hired Orkin over two years ago to help take care care of the flies and mice. Even though Orkin comes, there will still be mice and flies since it's a log cabin. All the DVD's for the TV are located under the TV stand in the living room. The rest of the wine glasses are in the basement in the cupboards next to the fridge. The oven has been cleaned. Yes, there are signs on the doors, cause due to previous experiences nobody could figure out how to lock them, so the signs simply explain how to lock the doors. This is a log cabin, the logs expand and shrink due to the changing seasons, so you may find that some months you will have issues with the doors and other months you will have no issues at all. There is a bench and two chairs to use to sit out on the deck and enjoy it.

Clean, spacious and comfortable! Beautiful views!

We enjoyed our short but sweet stay. We came to Powderhorn for a ski race and the house was perfect for both adults and kids. The kitchen has everything you need and the beds are so comfortable! Will be back next year!
