Facilities & experiences
Our villas are located mere footsteps from a near-deserted stretch of sandy beach and the warm lapping waves of the Indian Ocean. The beach offers swimming in season and the offshore coral reefs are excellent for snorkelling.
Our hotel provides a wealth of facilities, including an infinity-edged swimming pool, living areas and lush gardens for dining and relaxing. Our kitchen team prepares delicious international and traditional Sri Lankan dishes to be enjoyed wherever you like – in your villa, on your villa’s private veranda, or perhaps in the garden under the swaying coconut palms and twinkling stars.
Local experiences include surfing, fishing and sailing, as well as spa therapies, beach yoga, revitalising massages and cooking classes. We also organise excursions to some of Sri Lanka's stunning natural and cultural attractions, which may include shopping and sightseeing trips to Galle Fort, or a day trip in search of elephants and leopards in Udawalawe or Yala national parks. Other local highlights include visits to tea, cinnamon and spice plantations.
Eraeliya’s nine bedrooms are set between five freestanding villas with their own unique character. Bedrooms are individually designed and furnished with antiques from across Asia along with a collection of mod cons including flat screen TVs, electric safes, free WiFi, luxurious toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities. Ensuite bathrooms are finished in smooth cement or terrazzo, and feature rain showers, twin sinks and some also have freestanding tubs. All bedrooms except for Villa Ambalama are equipped with air conditioners.
Villa Bawana is a magnificent two-storey contemporary-designed four-bedroom villa. Offering superlative luxuries, chic styling and superb views, Villa Bawana features a magnificent colonial-style living area and four luxurious palatial suites, located in pairs on the ground and first floors, with sea views and private verandas overlooking the hotel’s large infinity pool. Each suite bears a Sinhala name that underpins the essence of their exquisite design.
The high-ceilinged living area features a library, a grand piano and a poker table – all integrated into a luxurious space decorated with original Asian artwork and antiques. A central passageway leads through the villa to the infinity pool and spacious pool deck offering views of the garden and sea.
Families and groups may book Villa Bawana on an exclusive basis or each of the suites, Diviya, Alaya, Samaya and Ramaya, may be booked individually.
Samaya & Ramaya
On the first-floor of Villa Bawana are two uniquely designed suites, Samaya (Peace) and Ramaya (Paradise). Offering every possible comfort and luxury, these suites boast superb panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.
Both suites are designed in a contemporary colonial style, and feature antique king-size beds, marble bathtubs and walk-in rain showers. French windows to the front of the suites open onto a private furnished balcony.
Diviya & Alaya
Individually furnished Diviya (Heaven) and Alaya (Love) suites are located on the ground floor of luxurious Villa Bawana, mere footsteps from the hotel’s infinity swimming pool and lush tropical garden.
Designed in a contemporary tropical style, these spacious suites have king-size beds, large walk-in rain showers and double vanity units. They open directly onto the pool terrace, furnished for relaxing and private dining.
A walauwa is a traditional Sri Lankan house, and this colourful two-bedroom villa is a stylish renovation of an existing home that once stood on the property. Perfectly in keeping with its history, the villa is designed in a typical Sri Lankan style yet is seamlessly equipped with twentieth century luxuries.
The villa’s bedrooms have either a king or a queen sized bed and ensuite bathrooms, and the cosy sofas in the lounge face a flat screen TV. The villa has a fully equipped kitchen and a large front terrace for living and dining with superb sea views that beautifully encapsulate the ideal tropical lifestyle.
Villa Walauwa is the perfect family escape, promising privacy, independence and spaciousness with the benefit of first-class hotel services and facilities.
Villa Nelum is a charming colonial-style, one-bedroom villa ideal for couples, honeymooners or a family as a sofa can be converted into an extra bed.
This individually styled villa comprises a living room and a bedroom with a low-slung queen-size bed and an open plan bathroom featuring a gorgeous freestanding tub made from a single piece of marble. The design of Villa Nelum blends Sri Lankan culture with modern style and luxurious comfort.
The villa opens onto our lush tropical garden and is a short walk away from our sandy beach making this the perfect suite for creativity and rejuvenation.
Villa Muhudu Bella
Villa Muhudu Bella is a wonderfully quirky colonial-style, one-bedroom chalet tucked just above the sandy beach. Secluded and wonderfully private, this intimate villa is an inspiring choice for honeymooners or romancing couples.
The villa’s geometry is fascinating. The bedroom (with a queen-size bed) and dressing room occupy a circular space with a large glass door leading to an veranda that offers glorious panoramas of the Indian Ocean and the tropical garden where hibiscus plants blossom year round. To add to its uniqueness, a gently spiraling staircase mirroring a seashell leads from the bedroom and curves its way down into a contemporary bathroom with shower.
As is the case with all of our villas, Villa Muhudu Bella offers a secluded space for creativity, yoga, meditation, or simple relaxation, right beside the sea.
Villa Ambalama is our newest one-bedroom villa, and its concept is absolutely unique to Eraeliya. An ambalama is a traditional Sri Lankan resting place, and this special space has been designed to completely immerse its occupants in Sri Lanka’s tropical lifestyle and unify them with nature.
The villa has a high roof and open ventilation strips to the sides that allow natural breezes to infiltrate and cool. Instead of air conditioning, the villa is equipped with ceiling fans. The villa’s glass walls allow light to flood in, however curtains can be drawn for privacy. The villa is furnished with eye-catching furniture, and a stunning Jaffna antique carved doorway leads into an outdoor garden bathroom designed for showering under the stars.
The antiquarian four-poster double bed with mosquito net, desk, sofa and armchair create an atmosphere of homeliness yet you’ll find no TV here. This villa is perfect for creative minds and those in search of pure inspiration.
Our grand villa features a magnificent colonial-style living area and four luxury suites of exceptional quality.
On the ground floor, the Heaven and Love suites are designed in a contemporary tropical style, with large walk-in rain showers and double vanity units.

Reception Team purchased this hotel in 2008
Everything was great - perfect location with nice and quiet beach, stunning views, amazing sunsets. The owners have done a very good job with the property and it is well maintained now. The personnel at the villa is very friendly - special thanks to Chiki for making our stay so comfortable and for catering to all our needs, including those of the kids which was sometimes tough. They arranged local trips for us, took care of the food shopping etc etc, leaving us to our swimming and sunbathing. Overall, it has been a great time - 10 days went by so swiftly, and in fact, we are thinking of coming back again. Would definitely recommend Villa Hibiscus to anyone looking for a quite, relaxing holiday. Thanks again.
We've just returned from 8 nights at Villa Hibiscus, where we had the most relaxing holiday ever.
The Villa itself was lovely and bigger than the pictures show. There are 3 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, so the villa could easily accommodate two couples or one family and another couple. There isn't a kitchen, but all your meals are prepared for you if you wish.
The view and location is just picture perfect. We spent our days swimming or surfing at the beach directly in front of the villa, gazing out at the view, eating, having massages, resting and eating some more. It was perfect.
The food was amazing and the staff were even kind enough to prepare a special Christmas day lunch for our family and some friends who were staying close by. It was a wonderful day and one we won't ever forget.
A big thanks to Chikky for looking after us, making sure we had everything we needed as well as taking us on tours of Weligama and even helping securing our seat on the train when it was time to leave.
We truly had the best time. The villa, the location, the food and the staff all exceeded our expectations. Once you stepped through the front gates, it was like stepping into paradise. We did not want to leave.
We arrived in Colombo Christmas eve and it took us 5.5 hours to reach the villa. Apparently it doesn't always take that long, but friends who arrived the day before said it took them the same amount of time to reach Mirissa. So keep this in mind when arranging flights/transfers. We would consider an air taxi next time, depending on the cost. We took the train from Galle back to Colombo at the end of our stay, which is only 2.5 hours, however it takes 45 mins to get to Galle from the Villa, you then need to arrive an hour early to claim a seat, and then it was an hours drive from Colombo Fort to the airport, so the travel time was not much different. If you are traveling with lots of luggage together with young children, I'd give the train a miss. Getting off at Colombo was a real challenge, with many people pushing to claim our seats, before we'd even left them and if we didn't have our friends to help us offload, we'd likely to be still sitting on that train. Saying that, the long trip to the south coast is well worth it and we would do it again, but this time with lots of snacks for the kids or via air.
Don't forget your mosquito repellent, you will need it
Thanks so much. We really had the most amazing time in Sri Lanka
We would rate our Sri Lanka trip amongst our best-ever holidays. From the moment we arrived at Colombo airport to the moment we left we were cared for in a manner that left us feeling delighted and individually valued.
Sam (the manager of the villa) was constantly attentive. He listened carefully to our requirements and went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed every moment - whether that be a simple lunchtime meal, a trip to a local tea plantation or a 2-day excursion to national parks.
Chiqi (Sam's brother and villa host) was also extremely helpful throughout our trip and very flexible in dealing with jet-lagged early starts at the beginning of the holiday, then late nights after days out sightseeing.
We enjoyed fantastic Sri Lankan cuisine whilst staying at Villa Hibiscus - with the meals being carefully developed to meet the needs of both us and our children. On my birthday I was treated to a celebratory Sri Lankan breakfast that made the day one I shall never forget.
We have so many lasting memories of our trip, but the aspects we enjoyed most were the glimpses into 'real' Sri Lankan life that only locals with a passion to share their culture could provide.
After leaving Sri Lanka we visited the Maldives but, despite all its promised luxury and high price tag, it couldn't match the authenticity and sincerity offered by Villa Hibiscus.
Many thanks, Peter, Alison, William and James (UK)
Really amazing sunsets, the best place for those who was tied from the noisy bustling towns.
Friendly administrator. Nice design inside. Delicious cooking. Owner is a nice and intelligent person.
Thank you to owner we had a great rest on your Villa!
Wunderschöne Gegend! Die veröffentlichen Bilder können die ganze Schönheit nicht wiedergeben! Es ist wie in einem tropischen Bilderbuch! Allerdings man wohnt richtig abgeschieden.
Diana & Alex Duisburg
Weligama is a small fishing town just half a mile from our villa on the south coast of Sri Lanka and off the tourist trail with fabulous beaches and stunning scenery. The Indian Ocean, palm trees, sandy beaches and a laid back way of life. We can take you on tours to Yala National Park to look for leopard and bear, Unawatuna, Galle town for shopping, or on a 3 day tour of the central highlands, visiting Kandy, tea estates, elephant orphanage, stunning waterfalls and viewing wildlife en route. There are plenty of temples, gemstone factories, antiques and craft shops to visit. Our cook can teach you how to make a Sri Lankan curry (on request). We can arrange for an ayuverdic therapist to come to our villa and sooth your body and soul (on request). Cricket is the beloved game in Sri Lanka and Galle has its own test match ground at Galle Fort. There is much to see!
