Casa Noche del Mono sits within a private nature reserve in the hills above the Pacific Ocean on the southern Nicoya Peninsula. Our unique location ensures complete privacy and tranquility as well as abundant wildlife. Monkeys, agoutis, peccaries, kinkajus, deer, toucans, parrots and much more are all found within the reserve. The property is perfectly situated for exploring the nearby beaches and attractions of the area, including the towns of Manzanillo, Mal Pais, Santa Teresa and Montezuma.
The main house itself is inspired by the Spanish colonial haciendas found throughout Central America and is the perfect blend of luxury and nature. Built around a central courtyard adorned with 5 fountains and tropical plants, the house remains a constant cool temperature. While all portions of the house are finished with the finest details (including granite and marble countertops, private terraces and bathrooms adjoining each bedroom, modern appliances and hand made tiles) the atmosphere is casual and perfectly suited to the natural surroundings. In addition to the 4 bedrooms, the house includes an indoor/outdoor rooftop terrace, a living room, a den with full satellite television, dining room, eat in kitchen and a 60 feet long terrace overlooking the pool, jungle and mountains. The large, blue-tiled infinity pool is perched on a hillside with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and jungle. The pool contains an underwater lounging bench. Deck chairs and lounging cushions are located around the pool area.
The casita is located a short distance from the house and includes a full kitchen, bathroom with outdoor shower and garden terrace with a jacuzzi. The caista can comfortably accommodate 4 additional guests. To ensure our guests privacy, the casita is never rented separately from the main house.
The lush gardens surrounding the house and casita are planted with flowering plants and tress from around the world, including breadfruit, guava, mango, avocado, heliconia and roses. The grounds are maintained by a gardener. The rest of our reserve consists of secondary forest laced with streams. We have ensured that these areas have not been developed or cleared (except for trails) and therefore retain an abundance of plant and animal life.
Full housekeeping and laundry services are provided. To ensure our guests' comfort, we have furnished the house and casita with high quality 600+ thread count bed linens, plush bath sheets and other 'necessities.' In addition, the kitchens are fully equipped with high end cookware and virtually every cooking gadget imaginable.
Our property is centrally located on the southern tip of the Nicoya peninsula with the beautiful beaches of Playa Manzanillo and Playa Hermosa less than a 10 minute drive away. In addition, the towns and beaches of Montezuma, Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are less than 30 minutes away. Numerous rivers also run through the area. During your stay, we will be happy to arrange horse back riding, spa/massage treatments, golf games, fishing excursions, surfing lessons, canopy tours or any other activity the area offers.
If your dream vacation is total privacy and tranquility in a stunning natural setting as well as luxurious and centrally located accomodations, please contact us by email or phone. We will be happy to answer any questions that you might have about Costa Rica, the area or our house.
We live in Europe so the delay for the answer can be a little bit longer. Thank you for your comprehension.
This is beautiful home with a lovely view and lovely landscaping. Waking to the sounds of the jungle was amazing and we had monkeys in our trees which thrilled us! The top terrace is a wonderful place to relax. The location is nice if you want to avoid the business of the coast but it is about a 30 minute drive to Santa Teresa and while there are two restaurants nearby, the best places to eat are in Santa Teresa in our opinion. The description and reviews mention the friendly gardener, housekeeper and laundry service but it seems as if they were let go before our arrival. There was a new caretaker, who was a bit of a curmudgeon (but he did prepare us a nice dessert one afternoon), and said the laundry machine would ruin our clothes; once we discovered the laundry machines were actually in a locked room in the house, we were able to do our own laundry. Also beware that the house has no AC and while most of the time the house is pleasant especially if it rains in the evening, on evenings that it did not rain, the bedrooms were a bit warm, stagnant and with the windows open, bugs (and a bat) did come in the room at night making us feel a little uncomfortable. Also some of the things that make this house special and add luxury were not up to par (because of a lack of rain?) such as the infinity pool which was still useable and nice but not filled to infinity level, fountains which were not running and the shower in the master bath which did not work. Seems to us like this home is a bit of a fading beauty. Bill responded promptly with emails but we never met him.
My review will certainly not do this home justice you really need to see it to believe it. Everything about this home is incredible and it's so peaceful even my 12 year old son enjoyed every moment here. You really won't want to leave, the infinity pool is wonderful, you could sit in it all day long watching the howler monkeys who visited on a daily basis. The home is impeccable with the best decor. The location to Playa Hermosa was very close and even though we didn't want to leave the house ever, it was well worth the trip down the road. The local restaurant Dayka was terrific and so affordable, its a must try! Everything you would need is in Cobano which is just a short car ride away. Rolando the gardener was so nice, we enjoyed knowing there was someone around the property if we ever needed anything. The housekeeper was so efficient we hardly ever saw her. We can't forget to mention Flaco the grounds dog, so cute, he came for a visit everyday which we enjoyed. The only other venture we did was an afternoon trip to Santa Theresa and ate at Habeneros on the beach, stunning and delicious food! We can't wait to go back, this house is a gem and so are the owners. Thank you again for opening up your wonderful home, this made for a wonderful trip and a lifetime of memories!
Just wanted to share a YouTube video of our experience at Noche Del Mono, it's a an incredible property, and Bill and Frank are both wonderful, truly exceptional experience.
As you can see from the other reviews (don't think I've ever seen so many glowing 5 star reviews for any property) this place is just heaven, we are already making plans for our next visit, but this time there are no questions about where we will stay, counting the days until our return!
Here is the link to the video, all the places shown are within a short distance from Noche Del Mono----simply the best of both worlds, privacy and quick access to everything.
When I read that the home was 5,000 sq feet, I knew the house would be spacious, but until you are there and can experience it, you do not realize how large it actually feels. My husband and I actually lost one another in the house at times. This was our third trip to this area of Costa Rica and we wanted to stay away from they hustle and bustle of the busy beach towns. If you want to be close to town, but experience nature at its fullest, this is your place. Within 10 minutes, you are at the beach in Manzanillo. This is more of a locals beach and a perfect place to watch the sunset. If you are into surfing, swimming or other water activities, my favorite beach is Hermosa, just a short distance from the Manzanillo beach. What we experienced by staying away from town was a plethora of wildlife. There was no need for an alarm clock, because if you left the windows open you would awaken each morning to the sounds of howler monkeys literally right outside your window. It was incredible. Birds of all types and colors could be seen flying to and fro. At night, the pool was the place to be so that you could look up and see stars above. Absolutely breathtaking. I also read the previous reviews about Bill and Frank. All are completely true. They were both wonderful and we truly enjoyed our chats with them. If you need anything, they are only a phone call away. I cannot recommend this rental highly enough. I felt very safe and enjoyed every minute.
We spent most mornings, early, walking and hiking the area, turning right or left on all of the paths. The walks were roughly 1.5 hours and saw an abundance of wildlife(anteater, snakes, parrots, toucans, monkeys, iguanas, etc.) It was a nice way to start the day and get moving. This was our eighth trip to Costa Rica and second time at this house and our goal was hiking, fishing and exploring the back roads and restaurants. You need to drive to Mal Pais to organize your fishing with the locals. We caught a sailfish, barracuda, tuna, amber jack, spanish mackeral etc. Great eating. Bring it home or get a restaurant in Santa Theresa to cook you lunch with your fish. A really neat drive is turn right out the house and go to Coyote. You must drive through three rivers(shallow). The drive is about 50 minutes and when you come to the main intersection in Coyote go straight through and a restaurant on your left is a must(Best coconut shrimp ever) went here three times for lunch.
The area is beautiful and out of the way which we liked. Bill and Frank were great. A must for Costa Rica.
We had the true delight of staying (for our second time) in this magical place (I call it the Moroccan Palace) in February-March. We were a group of seven and had a fantastic time. The house is beyond anything you could wish for, with great:
It is a short drive to the beach and we had a great time boogey-boarding in the surf.
The maid cleaned up daily and when we arrived at the house there were fresh cut flowers in the dining room and all of the bedrooms.
Bill and Frank were wonderful hosts, eager to assure we had everything we needed and answered all of our questions.
I can't wait to come back!
We will be happy to arrange horse back riding (beach or trail), spa treatments & massage, fishing excursions, boat trips, golf games, surfing lessons and canopy tours during your stay.
