It was a great home, with an amazing view of Jay Peak. The layout was absolutely perfect, with large rooms with big ceilings for hanging out with our friends. Good sized bedrooms, plus extra sleeping area for two kids. The kitchen had everything you could possibly want for a week of cooking (except a kettle... which was odd). The beds were quite comfortable (especially compared to many other vacation homes I've been in). Eight of us housed pretty comfortably. The fact that we were 15 minutes from Jay Peak was a great bonus, with good downhill and xcountry skiing. The pool table was an extra luxury. The owner met us at the house and walked us through what we'd need.
Overall, A+ stay, and we'd come back in a heartbeat. We very well may. I would caution that if you have young kids you like to let run around in the snow, or if you're someone who likes to let the dog off the leash, the pond in the fields behind the house that hadn't yet frozen over might be a minor concern, since we could barely even see it was there under the snow. I bet it's amazing in the summer though.
As for amenities, we did our shopping at Shaws and Walmart (30 minutes away), picked up our beer at Hill Farmstead on our way up (45 minutes away), and cooked and ate and drank at the large dining room table by the fireplace. Couldn't fathom going out, so have nothing to say about what else might be nearby.
Part of me wants to keep this place my family's secret spot, but it's too good not to share the love. This is the perfect Vermont home for a winter getaway, especially for a family who loves to cook like mine. The kitchen and living areas have expansive back windows which look out on a view of a large backyard, pond and Jay Peak. The kitchen is huge, but charming and cozy with the perfect layout and wood burning fireplace. It's the perfect space to hang out, play board games, share a micro brew and cook delicious meals, which is exactly what we did. The gourmet kitchen is not an exaggeration, there were more sophisticated cooking tools and counter space than we needed. Everything was beautifully designed, clean, organized and welcoming. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. My family vacationed in Jay Peak when my brother and I were toddlers through high school. Now that we are adults, my brother brought his 6 month old daughter to start the family tradition all over again. This was the perfect return to our favorite New England mountain to start a new generation of memories.
The house is absolutely to die for! The photos are great, but they don't hold a flame to seeing the house in person. There's so much space for entertaining. Great layout. Each bedroom is huge! The kitchen is a Martha Stewart's dream come true. It has modern, stainless steel appliances and a wine cooler! A wine cooler, people! We never lost hot water. There are two fireplaces and an abundance of firewood for us to use. There is also so much land around the house. You really get the true Vermont experience and the privacy you need. The lady across the street breeds Morgan horses (native to Vermont) and will gladly give you a tour of her barn if you ask her. The view from the house is absolutely breathtaking. You can even see Jay Peak and all the trails from the house! I highly recommend this place. Since I can't live here forever, I will definitely be returning.
Do not hesitate to book this home for your vacation. First, Tom (the owner) is super nice, and both the booking and payment process was easy and went smoothly.
We were there for a long weekend (Thurs-Sun) in February with another family, and we had a great experience. The house is elegant and comfortable all at once, and extremely functional. Unlike some rental homes, this one was stocked with all the pots, pans, and tableware to cook and serve any type of meal you desire. There are even dozens of spices in the cabinets if you run out, or forgot to bring something. I brought about a dozen spice jars only to find that the house was stocked with most of them, already. We are a family of four (+1 dog), and we were there with our friends' family (3), and there was plenty of room for everyone. The house was immaculate (so hard to find in a dog-friendly rental), and the beds were comfortable.
The big, open kitchen/dining/living area with the fireplace and kitchen island/bar made it easy for the adults to socialize while entertaining the kids. (We had three children under the age of 3 in the group)
The house is about 20 minutes from Jay Peak, where we both skiied and played in the very impressive indoor waterpark.
We would definitely rent this house again!
Myself, my boyfriend, and two other couples stayed at this property for a couples getaway ski trip. I honestly cannot describe this home as anything but spectacular! Vaulted ceilings, extremely well equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms all contributed to the perfect weekend we had here. Email correspondence with the owner, Tom, was very speedy and informative. We had the pleasure of meeting Tom at the house when we arrived. He showed us a shortcut to Jay Peak, gave us a tour of his beautiful house, and welcomed us to use his firewood. With the fireplace in the kitchen and wood burning stove in the basement, this came in handy!
We also had a dog with us. There was an additional security deposit for the dog but we received the entire security deposit back within a day of our check out.
To sum it all up, we LOVED this house and booking it was so easy with Tom's help. We are already planning another trip up to Jay just so we can stay here again!
Thanks for a great weekend!
We had a wonderful time staying at Tom's home for a week!
The house is really quite big - the photos are nice but once you get into the house, it is so much more! The living room has ample seating; the beds were comfortable with plenty of extra blankets and pillows around; the game room in the basement is bright and is set up very well so that there's a seating area for people to chat while others are playing pool. The house is so well insulated that we were never cold despite it being subzero temperatures outside. We had the fireplace on the main floor going but didn't get a chance to use the wood burning stove downstairs.
My favorite part of the home was definitely the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is to die for - coming from NYC, it was a dream to have such a large kitchen with so much space to prep and cook and serve food. The dining room is open to the kitchen as well, with the great fireplace as a centerpiece. We had a fire roaring each night while I made dinner; the rest of our party would hang around at the table with snacks and drinks.
The views of Jay Peak mountain were fantastic - I can imagine this being a great place to visit in the summertime as well, considering that the deck is huge and there's a grill to use as well. It was a quick drive to skiing/snowboarding and very convenient getting to the house from the highway.
Overall, our group had a phenomenal trip and would recommend to others to stay here, as we would also definitely consider staying again next year.
