About the property

North Scottsdale 1,400 sq.ft. 1 BR Home (or adjacent 750 sf Studio Bldg #4157005

The 1,400 sq.ft. 1 bedroom Casita, and the adjacent 750 sq.ft. Studio building, are both located on our private 2 1/2 acre pristine Sonoran Desert property - an unofficial Nature Conservancy. Come take a tour:

The Casita, with its own private secret desert garden .

ENTER OUR 2 1/2 ACRE PROPERTY: onto our private driveway between large desert trees, past a red split-rail western fence on the right and our "corral--type" metal gate, you are facing the east side of our private Casita home. : . As you drive over the red-rock gravel area you are facing the east side of the Casita.

YYour "first choice, depending on your vehicle, you can drive directly into the one-car garage (with a private door entering directly into the Casita itself) or park in the large open area outside the building and walk to the right, past a Century Tree and desert plants and "under" the arch. Continue alongside the garage wall (covered with large plants growing to its roof-line) and have your first look at our Sonoran Desert. To the left you enter through the two low Mexican wooden gates onto the north portion of Casita patios.

PATIOS: The patios "wrap-around" on three sides of the Casita and are extra-wide. Each side has at least one table and plenty of comfortable chairs. There is a large water fountain. In the distance on the north you can see Lone Mountain with its hiking trails; the west and south patios overlook desert views. On the south side of the Casita is also a large private, enclosed cactus garden, with some special specimens and its own seating.

ENTERING YOUR VACATION HOME: From the west patio through a large pair of sliding glass doors you enter into the west "wing" of the "L-shaped" carpeted living room.

LOOKING TO THE RIGHT "WING", in the far corner, on each of two walls, is a double sliding glass "picture windows" (with screens), facing west and west and south. In the corner is a large comfortable chair and ottoman. Under one set of windows is; a "day-bed", the top doubling as another "couch" or bed (twin mattresses - the bottom one is hidden until pulled-out and raised. Interesting, twin mattresses, when placed side-by-side are but a few inches less wide than a king-sized mattress. This side of the "L" has an antique western desk with wireless modem, art work and bookshelves and a door to the bedroom.

Throughout the carpeted living room are ceiling fans, real-wood long vegas, colorful art-work, recessed ceiling lights, small tables and lamps..

LOOKING TO THE LEFT: in the near corner where the two Wings meet, is a wood burning fireplace, large wood vega mantle, in front of which is a long leather sofa (the two end sections can raise as "leg rests" for relaxing reclining.

THE "LEFT" WING of the "L" features another couch and a sofa; with small tables, art work and lamps, Opposite these is a full wall of recessed book-shelves. These feature an audio system (with I-Pod connectivity), large flat-screen large TV with Direct TV and HBO and a CD/cassette player attached to the TV. There are also numerous books from our private collection featuring a great variety of topics. On two designated shelves are many modern fiction novels (for these 2 shelves do not worry about finishing a novel - start reading one and you can take-it-home). There are also some cassette and DVD films and CD music disks - and our larger private collection is also available.

FULL KITCHEN: beyond the farthest couch is a dining room table, doorway to the garage and our large kitchen with appliances on three sides and a double window facing the east; plenty of recessed ceiling lights The electric kitchen (save on restaurant costs) has a- 4 burner stove top, oven and built-in microwave; dishwasher; new pots and pans; double kitchen sinks, garbage disposal and reverse osmosis water dispenser; large refrigerator with ice & water dispensers (both using reverse osmosis water); and adjacent large floor-to-ceiling walk-in pantry.

THE BEDROOM: accessible either thorough a door in the southern side of the "L" or a door between the bedroom and the bathroom. Featuring a queen size bed, new ceiling fan with light, lamps, art work, a large chest of drawers and a flat screen TV with Direct TV and HBO; and some chairs; picture window (with screens) looking out onto the private cactus gardeni.

THE BATHROOM: accessible through a private door to the bedroom, and from the living room. It features high clerestory windows for daytime light; a large (2 person) Jacuzzi tub, 2 sinks, a large walk-in tile shower with tile seat, and a private lavatory with sliding vest-pocket door for privacy. The; shower and lavatory have safety rails. There is also an; iron and ironing board. Behind two "shutter" doors is a private washer/dryer. There is also a "linen closet" with extra towels, sheets, etc.

CARPETED WALK-IN CLOSET is entered through a corner of the bathroom. It features a series of long wood rods for hanging clothing, a hotel-type luggage rack, numerous additional blankets, pillows etc. above and beyond those in the bedroom.

Beautiful sunset views in Sonoran desert, from inside or from the Patios.

Our property and surrounding areas are like an unofficial Sonoran Desert nature sanctuary - bird watching (resident or migrant cardinals, hawks, pygmy owls, doves, etc), numerous variety of cactus and desert plants. Binoculars, bird-books and 'nighttime star books' await with accompanying telescope. Guestbook comments from the owner

COMMENTS FROM THOSE VISITING OUR “SOUL OF THE DESERT”:

…The warmth of your welcome… Alma del Desierto is sacred land, and the smiles of the Ancestors for your respect for it is palpable.

There seems to be an unseen doorway between your land and the world outside.

While I appreciated the convenience to urban destinations & shopping nearby mountain trails there’s something about the space you’ve created that allows me to strip off tasks & personas, kick back, settle in and replenish. Always, I go home renewed & unexpectedly stronger.

How do you do it? Is it the owls & the doves that come to nest? The bunnies that know they’re safe? The orange & red sunsets behind the saguaros night after night? Or maybe is the sound of Linda’s laughter through it all that weaves it all together.

However you do it, I’m grateful for your gentle wisdom, Jerome, and for your open-hearted joy, Linda. Alma del Desierto is so much more than a destination. Each time I leave permeated with your kindness. It’s an unspoken gift that I can walk back into my world. Thank you for the hospitality & love you give so freely. ===============.

…My stay has been very enjoyable. I’ve always loved the desert and you have carved out an interesting wildlife filled home, including the woodpecker. I very much enjoyed your home and meeting you both.

===============.

What a fabulous place this is! The desert is so beautiful and just releases your soul. You two are the best “LANDLORDS” EVER! Thank you for the sunsets, bike rides and good talks with you!

===============.

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay…We truly enjoyed our stay. Thank you also for all your kindness, we couldn’t have asked for more…

===============.

Thanks for a wonderful stay…God’s Blessings on you both…

===============.

…To be blessed with a space that is full of love, tender moments and exquisite thoughtfulness is a gift…We are in gratitude in the spiral time that we have had in this clean and pure space. It is a joy to know you both. We hope for more moments with you.

===============.

Oh my goodness, again I’ve found peace in the desert! Also, I’ve met 2 new friends on my journey this life. Your little corner of the world here is a slice of paradise…

===============.

…How to speak about the specialness & sacredness here? We are so at home & obviously, it’s because we’re family.

===============.

We’ve enjoyed our stay but especially your generosity and good wishes…

Piece do paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful 6 weeks plus at the casita, it was everything advertised and more! We couldn't have asked for anything better. The house felt very comfortable and welcoming the moment we walked in. We enjoyed the large wrap around patio, sitting in the sun reading or just relaxing,listening to the birds or just enjoying the peace and quiet of the desert. In the evenings we would have "happy hour" and enjoy the sunsets that were beyond beautiful some evenings. The daily walks around the area were wonderful and we looked forward to going out and feeding Kid. We had our dog, Bailey with us and he was as welcomed a guest as we were. Linda and Jerome are wonderful people who love sharing their knowledge and little corner of heaven with people. Thank you for a wonderful time we were sorry to see it end. Warren, Tisha and Bailey.

November getaway

  • 5 of 5

Thank you, Linda and Jerome, for a beautiful and relaxing time at your wonderful casita in the desert! The newly decorated decor is both beautiful and comfortable. November is and awesome month to visit. Every morning we enjoyed our coffee on the wrap around patio while watching birds and other desert animals forage. The sunsets were spectacular. Our late night walks in the safe neighborhood allowed for great star gazing. We love your casita!!!

Peaceful Oasis

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful Oasis Mike and I stayed at this amazing Casita for one week. We entered a world we had never imagined. The pictures are a far cry from the actual beauty of this location. Sunsets in the evening to horses whinnying and the gentle sound of quail in the morning. The location is lovely and the casita is very quaint and comfortable. Jerome and Linda were just a few steps away and glad to share great dining and area activities. This is a “Peaceful Oasis” from the everyday hustle and bustle.

Desert Paradise

  • 5 of 5

The Casita was better than advertised. The place was warm and comfortable. It was both far away and close to everything. Jerome and Linda were very hospitable. The cacti were starting to bloom, the house and the grounds were immaculate. When we come back to Scottsdale, this is where we must stay. Thank you, Jerome and Linda for sharing your beautiful Casita with us!!

Beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful place to stay if you enjoy georgeous sunsets and sunrises, desert bird calls and peace and quiet. The casita is perfectly maintained and the well stocked kitchen is as easy as being home. Many good resturants and shopping areas are right around the corner, as are walking and biking trails. This is a home away from home and Jerome and Linda make you feel like family guests. My husband and I spent seven lovely days here and plan to come back. I would recommend it highly.

Relax in the Sonoran desert

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a good share of January through March in the casita. We wanted to have time to get to know the area around north Scottsdale, and the casita was a wonderful home base for exploring the area. The casita is far enough from the owners' home that you feel you have your privacy, and yet they make certain you have what is needed to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. This is in a beautiful area of the Sonoran desert, and we enjoyed taking walks in the desert on the trails available. For mountain bikers, there are a lot of trails in the McDowell Mtn. Preserve, as well as closer at hand in the area just northeast of Pima/Dynamite intersection; if you're here for an extended stay, the mountain biking can be a lot of fun once you find the trails.

We had a real feeling of being out in nature, with the birds waking us every morning to feed alongside the rabbits outside the casita patio. It was fun to see the screech owl perched in the saguaro by the casita, and we were pleased to see a beautiful bobcat once.

We were in the area long enough, we were able to experience a change in the season, with many of the desert plants leafing out, and the floor of the desert was covered with a patchwork of green plants by the time we left.

While we we were living in the Sonoran desert, entertainment was available when we wanted it--Barrett-Jackson car auction in January, Phoenix Golf Tournament, baseball spring training, many golf courses, lots of restaurants of all types, Scottsdale really does have a lot of events during that time of year.

Then there were times when we just borrowed books from the casita library and relaxed on the sunny patio.

The kitchen is stocked with all necessary utensils for typical food preparation, and has a pantry area for food storage.

The casita really does provide you with your own home while you are there, unlike renting a hotel room or condo. If you are interested in really getting to know what the Sonoran desert is like, or just need a place to get away and decompress, I highly recommend this property.
