North Scottsdale 1,400 sq.ft.1 BR Home
The 1,400 sq.ft. 1 bedroom Casita is located on our private 2 1/2 acre pristine Sonoran Desert property - a truly unofficial Nature Conservancy. Come take a tour:
The Casita, has its own private desert cactus garden .
ENTER OUR 2 1/2 ACRE PROPERTY: Onto our private driveway between large desert trees, past a red split-rail western fence on the right and our "corral--type" metal gate, you are facing the east side of our private Casita home. As you drive over the red-rock gravel area you are facing the east side of the Casita.
Your first choice, depending on your vehicle, you can drive directly into the one-car garage (with a private door entering directly into the Casita itself) or park in the large open area outside the building, walking to the right, under the arch past a Century Tree and desert plants. Continue alongside the garage wall (covered with lush green plants growing to its roof-line) and have your first look at our full Sonoran Desert. To the left, you enter through the two low Mexican wooden gates onto the north portion of our three sided Casita patio.
PATIO: The extra-wide patio "wraps-around" on three sides of the Casita. Each side has at least one table and plenty of comfortable chairs. The sound of moving water greets you from the patio's fountain.
In the distance on the north side you can see Lone Mountain with its hiking trails; the west and south patios overlook desert views. On the south side of the Casita is also a large private, enclosed cactus garden, with some special specimens and its own seating area.
ENTERING YOUR VACATION HOME: From the west patio through a large pair of sliding glass doors, you enter into the west "wing" of the "L-shaped" carpeted living room.
LOOKING TO THE RIGHT "WING": In the far corner, on each of two walls, is a double sliding glass "picture windows" (with screens), facing west and west and south. In the corner is a large comfortable chair and ottoman; more book shelves and books and an audio system. Under one set of windows is a "day-bed", the top doubling as another "couch" or bed (twin mattresses - the bottom one is hidden until pulled-out and raised. Interesting, twin mattresses, when placed side-by-side are but a few inches less wide than a king-sized mattress. This side of this "L" wing has an antique western desk with wired & wireless modem, art work and bookshelves, and a door to the bedroom.
Throughout the carpeted living room are ceiling fans, real-wood ceiling vegas, colorful art-work, recessed ceiling lights, small tables and lamps..
LOOKING TO THE LEFT: In the near corner where the two "wings" meet, is a wood burning fireplace, large wood vega mantle, in front of which is a long leather sofa (the two end sections can raise as "leg rests" for relaxing reclining.
THE "LEFT" WING of the "L" features another couch and a sofa; with small tables, art work and lamps, Opposite these is a full wall of recessed book-shelves. These feature large flat-screen large TV with Direct TV and HBO and a CD/cassette player attached to the TV. There are also numerous books from our private collection featuring a great variety of topics. On two designated shelves are many modern fiction novels (for this shelf do not worry about "finishing a novel" - start reading one and you can take-it-home. There are also some cassette and DVD films and CD music disks - and our larger private collection is also available.
FULL KITCHEN: Beyond the farthest couch is a dining room table, doorway to the garage and our large kitchen with appliances on three sides and a double window facing the east; plenty of recessed ceiling lights The electric kitchen (save on restaurant costs) has a- 4 burner stove top, oven and built-in microwave; dishwasher; new pots and pans; double kitchen sinks, garbage disposal and reverse osmosis water dispenser; large refrigerator with ice & water dispensers (both using reverse osmosis water); and adjacent large floor-to-ceiling walk-in pantry.
THE BEDROOM: Accessible either thorough a door in the southern side of the living's "L" wing, or a door between the bedroom and the bathroom. Featuring a queen size bed, new ceiling fan with light, lamps, art work, large chest of drawers and a flat screen TV with Direct TV and HBO, some chairs, a picture window (with screens) looking out onto the private cactus garden, and the southern desert beyond.
THE BATHROOM: Accessible through a private door to the bedroom, and from the living room. It features high clerestory windows for daytime light; a large (2 person) Jacuzzi bathtub; 2 sinks, a large walk-in tiled shower with tile seat, and a private lavatory with sliding vest-pocket door for privacy. The shower and lavatory have safety rails. There is also an iron and ironing board. Behind two "shutter" doors is a private washer/dryer. There is also a "linen closet" with extra towels, sheets, etc.
CARPETED WALK-IN CLOSET Is entered through a corner of the bathroom. It features a series of long wood rods for hanging clothing, hotel-type luggage rack, numerous additional blankets, pillows etc. above and beyond those in the bedroom.
Beautiful sunset views in Sonoran desert, from inside, or from the patios.
Our property and surrounding areas are like an unofficial Sonoran Desert nature sanctuary - bird watching (resident or migrant cardinals, hawks, pygmy owls, doves, etc), numerous variety of cactus and desert plants. Binoculars, bird-books and 'nighttime star books' await with accompanying telescope. A Hidden Treasure in the beautiful Sanoran Dessert
The Casita was lovely in every way. Great Location for restaurants, grocery stores, and other shopping. Large well equipped kitchen, nicely furnished living area, a large beautiful bathroom, the patios on 3 sides with lots of outdoor furniture. The sunsets on the west patio were beautiful, and in the morning the little Quail families, humming birdsand cotton tail rabbits, were within feet of us. It is a beautiful Oasis. So quiet and peaceful we did not go out too much. We cooked all our meals and just enjoyed being there. We took a drive to Globe , a Heritage mining town and the Roosevelt Lake 1/2 hour from Globe. We also drove to Fountain Hills to see the 100 foot fountain that goes up and hour on the hour. Both places are a lovely scenic drive. Most of all , Jerome and Linda were delightful friendly people who respected our privacy. I highly reccommend this Casita. We have stayed in many VRBO all over the world and this was one of the best!!!
Comfortable home in the desert
I've stayed in a lot of vacation rentals and many of them only furnish the house and kitchen with the barest of necessities. Jerome and Linda have provided a property that has most of the comforts of home. It's nice to have a fully stocked kitchen and bathroom and an impressive library. Quiet desert surroundings make this place a gem! Then there's Jerome and Linda; hosts with the most! Though they live on the property they fully respected my privacy. When we had the time to get together, I found their company and conversation to be a plus to my stay. And then there's the outdoor spiral staircase to the roof of their house that they made fully accessible to me to watch the glorious desert sunsets every evening. I can't wait to come back to Phoenix and see them in the future.
A Wonderful Escape
The internet advertisement for the Casita seemed far too good to be true, could such a wonderful sounding place really exist, and what about the terrific reviews left by the past guests? Well .... as we now know, yes, it is all real!
The minute we arrived, Jerome's welcome made us immediately feel at ease and when Linda popped in for a quick chat we felt like we'd already known them for years. Straight away, it was obvious that our time here was going to be rather special. Their warm and sincere welcome was such a wonderful surprise. The peaceful tranquility of the Casita, (a home, not just a vacation rental) and its unspoiled environment so close to the many trails that we hiked, was just perfect. The location was convenient to shopping, dining, and a perfect spot to just explore the surrounding area. The home was clean, had all the supplies to cook if you want, Jerome and Linda were there if you needed them, but was also private and serene. Oh, we also enjoyed your neighbor's menagerie which included a couple of alpacas, a Shetland pony and an entertaining and friendly donkey adding to the very rural atmosphere.
The next time we visit, we'd love to spend more time just chatting with Jerome and Linda as we seemed to click immediately.
Perfect Desert Retreat
My husband and I spent 2 perfectly relaxing weeks at the casita. We were totally comfortable in the spacious and tastefully decorated accommodations that were in the midst of the beautiful desert surroundings. The additions of a garage and washer/dryer were a real "plus." Each morning we experienced the beauty of the desert sunrise from the kitchen window, and each evening the sunsets were magnificent from the lovely wrap-around deck. The casita was located in a quiet, safe, open desert neighborhood that was just begging you to explore it on foot (which we did daily) or bicycle. Many hiking trails, particularly Pinnacle Peak Park, were accessible. The interesting small towns of Carefree and Cave Creek were 10 minutes away - great restaurants, art shows and galleries. Jerome and Linda were perfect hosts living a "stones throw" away - accessible but never intrusive. The welcome basket of fresh fruit was so appreciated and enjoyed! This was a great "getaway" from the Colorado winter temps. We'd return in a heartbeat.
Nice people, great location and a clean modern facitity
The location in North Scottsdale among small horse ranches and open desert is ideal. It is far removed from the congestion and noise of Phoenix, yet near up-scale shopping, unique restaurants and major routes. I valued the proximity to over 100 hiking trails, some quite challenging. The casita itself has all the conveniences and features of any modern home along with privacy and beautiful desert landscaping. The real gem is finding an accomplished, intelligent couple willing to provide instant service for practically any issue. Yup! Linda and Jerome make this an exceptional value for your Phoenix vacation.
Piece do paradise!
We spent a wonderful 6 weeks plus at the casita, it was everything advertised and more! We couldn't have asked for anything better. The house felt very comfortable and welcoming the moment we walked in. We enjoyed the large wrap around patio, sitting in the sun reading or just relaxing, listening to the birds or just enjoying the peace and quiet of the desert. In the evenings we would have "happy hour" and enjoy the sunsets that were beyond beautiful some evenings. The daily walks around the area were wonderful and we looked forward to going out and feeding Kid. We had our dog, Bailey with us and he was as welcomed a guest as we were. Linda and Jerome are wonderful people who love sharing their knowledge and little corner of heaven with people. Thank you for a wonderful time we were sorry to see it end. Warren, Tisha and Bailey.
We are a close drive to world renowned golf courses; Mayo & other hospitals & healthcare facilities; Cactus League baseball; live & cinema theaters; symphony, ballet, opera & other Scottsdale & Phoenix cultural events; scenic hiking, cycling, horseback riding; several large lakes ( 30 minute drive); Musical Instrument Museum (MIM -'"Only one in the world!"); football and basketball (in season). Hiking and Biking on nearby desert trails. Artists and photographers guest with us specifically to "paint" and photograph our scenery, birds, wildlife; beautiful, peaceful, healing and contemplative atmosphere. The desert is a "tuning fork" - helping us find physical and emotional balance and harmony; yet we are within 15 minutes of shopping, restaurants, entertainment and more. CACTUS LEAGUE BASEBALL: Spring Training baseball under the warm Arizona sun has been a tradition for devoted fans since 1947. Today, 15 teams train in the Phoenix metropolitan area in the greatest concentration of professional baseball facilities found anywhere in the United States. For our guests the Cactus League couldn't be more convenient, with short drive times between ballparks and each an easy drive from our property.
