The Marsh House is a unique home located on Bayou Liberty in Slidell. Bayou Liberty leads to Lake Pontchartrain and is one of the top scenic bayous in Louisiana. It's about a 15 minute ride by boat to the lake. The bayou is perfect for fishing, jet skiing, kneeboarding, or taking a leisurely cruise to see the old homes on the bayou. It is a bird sanctuary with bird feeders and purple martin house. Slidell is thirty minutes from New Orleans but has the feel of stepping back in time to a slower way of life. Bayou Liberty has the annual pirogue races in June, close enough to get into the Poker Runs, and Santa on the Bayou in December. There are many good restaurants and antique shops in Olde Towne.
The home is perfect for two living rooms with fireplaces ,a formal dining area, and a huge kitchen. It is a 3500 square foot home, so it is very spacious. There is a screened porch off the living room. The house is raised and above the house is an perfect place to watch the sun set, the moon rise and the idea place to catch the full moon. The house has a huge yard that is perfect for outdoor activities.
The Marsh House has a front and back porch which extends the length of the home. All the rooms open to the porches by French doors. Two of the bedrooms have king size, pillow-topped beds. There are two queen beds in two bedrooms and the last bedroom/office, has a futon.
There is a semi-private marina for two boats and an attached garage, in addition to the garage on the floor level. There is a public boat launch a few streets away. If you don't have a boat, there are places where pontoon boats can be rented. You can fish right off the dock. There is also a municipal fishing dock within a fifteen minute drive located on Lake Ponchartrain. There are also fishing charters available in the area that will put you on the famous speckled trout and redfish that the area is known for. There are many good restaurants with easy access as well as a really good fresh fish market that also sells the famous po boy sandwiches loaded with fried seafood of all.
There are two public golf courses within a fifteen minute drive as well as a multi-plex Imax theater, Sam's Club, and shopping malls.
The Marsh House is close to visit New Orleans or the Gulf Coast - about 30 minutes away. It's a wonderful home for family reunions or just getting friends together. Laissez bon temps roulez!
If you're looking for an awesome, spacious house for a group of people, no matter the occasion, no need to look any further!!! We were on a couples trip, group of 10, and this house fit our every need!!! We spent most of our time in New Orleans for different events and hate we didn't get to spend more time just there at the property. The owner, Mrs Beth, is very nice and accommodating.... Everything from checking in to our departure was very smooth!! Anything you think you may have forgot I promise they are surely to have it there!!! Just so so much to enjoy at the Marsh House!!! We are now PERMANENTLY SOLD, including our hold group of 10!! This is surely our first choice of places to stay for any trips back to visit New Orleans. The drive was only about 35 minutes... We enjoyed our trip!!! Hope you love the Marsh House as much as we did!!!
Stayed there on Christmas 2016. Beth is very pleasant to have a conversation with and very helpful to get us settled in. The House is spacious for everybody, enough rooms if you have to have some moments to yourself, and well equipped. The boys had some fun catching some bass in the channel not far from the dock. weather was beautiful at that time of the year. It's a driving distance to New Orleans if you are interested. Stores are also close by made it very convenient.
Our stay here was fantastic. We had 7 adults and 2 children and no one was stepping on top of each other. The house is quite large and the 2 decks, yard, and the dock created a great environment for everyone to have fun without being in each others' way. The location is right on the bayou, but within 30-45 minutes of the French Quarter (depending on traffic). The beds and pillows were wonderfully comfortable with options for soft or firm mattresses depending on your preference. The kitchen and bathrooms were stocked with almost any amenity you could think of (aside from the food) from crab baskets, to waffle makers to q-tips it was there; the spice cabinet was even stocked! If I had to critique anything I'd say; some of the cabinets in the kitchen could stand some repair as the drawers were a little off track, but really that is it! Most everything here is perfect and we greatly enjoyed our stay, we are already discussing when we could come back!
This place was even much better than the pictures! Super convenient and super roomy!! It started with the discovery of the elevator lift from the garage to the kitchen... OMG, that was a lifesaver for all our groceries and bags!! Then, all the rooms are very nice and comfy... everything works great (wifi, A/C, TV, laundry, bathrooms, etc.). The outside space is amazing! The large screened in porch is SO relaxing, as well as the large front porch. Lots of wildlife and adventure here!! I was joking when I said I was going to go on the dock to see some gators, but sure enough, I went down there and saw gators!!! We highly recommend this place and we'd be back!
I stayed for a week with my extended family 7 adults and 2 teens. The house was very nice, clean and well maintained. The setting was secluded and pretty, yet a very short drive to town. We worried that it would be too far from New Orleans to enjoy the city, but the drive did not seem long at all. As an added advantage we spent a day on the Mississippi gulf coast which was also an easy drive.
Over all a great experience and I would definitely rent this house again.
My family, 7 adults and 4 children, had a wonderful reunion at the Marsh House. When you first arrive you feel like you might be in the middle of nowhere, but once you get the lay of the land, this is the perfect place for a large group. We were all in town for my son's wedding. I came in a day early to insure conditions and do the grocery shopping before the clan arrived. No need to worry everything was GREAT! It was so peaceful to have coffee in the early morning, and share stories during happy hour on the screened in porch. Beds were comfortable and rooms were large. Having a stocked kitchen was a BIG plus for all the gourmet cooks we had. Need to add a picture of it to the site. There was even an elevator to help with hauling food and luggage, of course I did not find it until I had brought all that upstairs already and began the "snooping process". There was only one thing I would change about this property. With that many people we could have used one more refrigerator. If only to put all the drinks, adult beverages and kids juices, and leftovers in it.
This was an AWESOME property and great location. We are hoping to have a First Year Anniversary Reunion there again next year.I can't wait to hear Ole Jeremiah the Bull Frog at sunset on the deck again.
