About Laura Katz

I am an Artist and a professional Designer of textiles, wallpapers and whatever else comes my way. My home reflects my love of antiques and tranquility. After decades in NYC I purchased this property and have been enjoying the beauty of the Hudson Valley ever since. There is always something new to explore in the area and my life reflects a simple lifestyle off the beaten track, yet part of a fascinating artistic community. Ever since leaving the City I have especially appreciated the abundance of Nature all around me-in my own backyard, hiking the gorgeous mountains and enjoying nearby lakes and the Hudson River. I love to travel and in recent years have been on Safari in Tanzania which stimulated my love of photography. Last winter I spent a good deal of time in Belize and my artwork, as well as my home reflects all of this.

Laura Katz purchased this house in 1999

Why Laura Katz chose Catskills

Close enough to NYC and yet far enough away. This property offers total privacy in a bucolic setting but is less than a mile into town. It has the best of both worlds.

What makes this house unique

Whether relaxing on the porch, patio or lawn- one is surrounded by natural beauty.

It's also a totally cozy home for reading by the fireplace, or in the reading nook upstairs.

The house has history- it is the original farmhouse on this Lane- but has been renovated to be up to date on modern conveniences.

The main house has 2 BR but there is a studio addition w/ a separate BR and bath which can be included in rental.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family and I gathered at Laura's house for a few days during the Christmas Holidays this past December. It was a wonderful, perfect time, with grown children and new spouses hunting for a tree (I think they found the last one available in upstate New York! ), making fires, and creating delicious meals. The house is set up just right for people to mingle in the front room, or to wander elsewhere for some quiet. This old farmhouse has much charm, both on it's own, and also with the artistic and warm touches of Ms Katz. We really liked that it felt earthy and welcoming - we weren't afraid to make it our own! It was not pretentious at all, but it was obvious the place is loved. To top off our stay there- the snow fell on Christmas night, with our sons out romping as they have forever when snowballs can be made. It was a pleasure doing business with Laura and I liked her quick replies to questions I had, and her attention to little details that she felt would make our visit be the best it could be. I would definitely recommend this house for a family gathering in the winter, but could imagine it in warm weather as well.

Wonderful House, Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

We came here with a pretty large group of people for a reunion of sorts, and the house accommodated us well. The house itself is cute and authentic feeling. We made good use of the beautiful front lawn: spending our days cooking, playing frisbee, and soaking up the rays. The town is conveniently close, but the house still feels secluded in a good way. Laura, the owner, is a delight. She was very communicative and gave us helpful tips for staying in the area. I would come back.

Dirty, smells like Mold, poorly maintained

  • 1 of 5

We arrived at this rental expecting a lovely, charming retreat. Instead, we found the house dirty. It smells of mold and mildew, and quite frankly is falling apart. Very disappointing.

Owner's Response: Obviously this guest should not have rented a 100 year old farmhouse! All my other guests in the last few years have seen the charm in the imperfections that she objected to. A guest expecting a pristine environment should be renting a more modern property. I am a professional designer and what I consider funky chic- as seen in the photos- she must have perceived as old. I have used a professional cleaning service for years and NEVER had any complaint before! Unfortunately the weather was not good at the time of her visit.& all I could think of was that she wanted a price reduction! Just for the record- in spite of distinct instructions posted on refrigerator House Rules- these guests did not leave the garbage out for pickup at the indicated time. When I returned to the house- bears had gotten into it and there was refuse all over! My neighbors were not happy. CLEANLINESS has been restored and improved upon. Come on give me a chance to prove this unhappy tenant wrong! Thanks.

Our go-to getaway spot in Woodstock!

  • 5 of 5

We have come back to rent this beautiful property again and again! This charming home is the perfect base for enjoying and exploring Woodstock. Situated on a beautiful piece of property, it has so much charm. Our family of 5 (2 couples, one teen) have enjoyed every visit. Pulling into the driveway feels like coming home! The owner is very responsive, helpful and accmodating. Highly recommended.

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Laura's place last weekend -- perfect from start to finish. Laura was accommodating and helpful, and the house was cozy and clean. The covered front porch is a gem and the grounds are well kept and very peaceful. Clean sheets and towels, good internet, good water pressure -- all good. Highly recommend.

Funky chic mountain retreat...

  • 5 of 5

Total privacy on five fabulous acres with a baronial front lawn, this was one of the best houses I've rented in Woodstock and I've rented quite a few. It's a 100-year-old farmhouse close to the center of town and loaded with charm. Not the most modern of amenities, but who cares -- they all work! The views are terrific, the fireplace is grand, the sofas and reading lights are comfy, the heat works really well and Laura, the host, who moves to her studio on the property when she has guests, is totally unobtrusive yet "on it" whenever you have a request. You can tell she loves this house -- it's obvious in all the details.
