Welcome to sunny Poipu Beach, located on the South side of the Garden Island of Kauai halfway between Waimea Canyon and Princeville. Our royal garden 2nd floor unit has one of the best views in our category at Kiahuna featuring peaks of the ocean and overlooking the historic Moir Cactus Garden created by Alexandra Moir in the 30's (most other garden or royal garden room views are obstructed by other Kiahuna rental units--once again see our lanai view and unit interior by activating our u-tube 'video' tab located at upper left corner of this page ). By 1948 it had risen to the top 10 worldwide gardens in this category. Our unit (located in building 38) is an approximate 3 minute walk thru lush Kiahuna grounds to the beach. Our unit is rated 'A' by our association for interior content and features Calif. King bed (top of line Serta mattress), queen sleeper/sofa, twin size airbed with self contained electric pump, DVD/HDD recorder, 2 TVs (32' Vizio HD Flatscreen in the livingroom and 26' Vizio HD flatscreen in bedroom), free high speed Broadband internet connection, wi-fi, new shower/tub, separate vanity, full kitchen (new stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and coffemaker), interior dining room table, and table for 4 and 2 lounge chairs on the lanai.

The latter can be used while enjoying the view of the Moir foliage and birds or the colors of a classic Kauai sunset. We have strived to create a warm casual atmosphere highlighted by pictures of Kauai and prints from local artists. Mahogany molding and refurbished wood furniture we believe enhances our goal to bring the outside indoors.

We are 27 year owners and have explored many of the major Kauai hiking trails as evidenced by our photos (Kauai is without doubt boasts the most scenic and geographically diversified trails in the islands--also refer to our Google map for trail locations and descriptions). Susan and I are also avid golfers and as such intimately acquainted with every course on Kauai. Other experiences which we are thrilled to share with guests include snorkeling, kayaking, secluded beaches, and local eating spots.

Last year we installed our 4th guest book after filling the first three. Comments contained therein are exceptionally complimentary of their Kauai and Kiahuna experience. These books also serve as a valuable reference guide for new guests.

Room rates vary between $110.00 to $165.00/night plus 13.42% tax plus one time $140.00 check out cleaning fee (increased to $155.00 beginning 1/1/17) plus approximately $50/week cleaning fees

Why The Owner chose Kauai

We originally purchased the unit after visiting Kiahuna with our boys. For our family vacation destination we were seeking an island with outdoor activities with strong emphasis on boggy boarding, other beach activities, and golf. Kauai surpassed our expectations in all regards. Moreover, Kauai scenic beauty is simply incredible and moreover still remains relatively undeveloped and thus free of crowds. We never tire of exploring the numerous Waimea Canyon and Napali Coast hiking trails (Samuel Clemens described Waimea as the Grand Canyon of Hawaii) or simply reading a book on a scenic deserted beach. For a thrill of a lifetime, helicopter, zodiac raft, or even kayak the Napali Shore (we've done all but the latter).

Serene Surroundings, Surf Sounds & Song Birds!

The location of this condo is in a quiet and private area of the resort. In addition, it is enhanced by sounds of ocean surf & song birds heard from the balcony. The owner of the condo was prompt & helpful with our booking of his unit. Bob has very good photos & a video on this VRBO site for you to view, as well as many favourable reviews. The shower/tub combo has an extra deep soaker tub that is lovely to relax in. The new carpet feels lovely underfoot (it is customary to remove your footwear before entering a Hawaiian home). Also, having a safe in the condo is great to secure valuables in.

We love the Poipu area of the Island, especially the Kiahuna Plantation Resort! There are over 33 acres of tropical grounds, and a beautiful beach within a short walk. There are lawn chairs & beach towels complimentary from the beach hut, for resort guests.

We utilized the services of the on-site concierge/tour representatives whose knowledge & helpfulness was impressive, saving us hours of internet research. Through the tour representative, we booked a helicopter, botanical gardens, & organic chocolate farm tours and a Zip- line excursion. Likewise, all of the front desk resort staff was professional & helpful.

During our first morning at the resort, we went to see Gayle, an on-site Concierge/Tour Representative, who provided an excellent orientation meeting. She gave us maps & lots of good, helpful information, and suggestions to assist us with tour/excursions on the Island. We highly recommend those of you new to Kauai to attend one of these meetings early on into your vacation. The tour representatives can also recommend restaurants, shops, grocery stores, farmers’ markets and SO many other things. Note: this is NOT at time-share presentation. These representatives live on Kauai and have taken many of the tours themselves, so they speak from first hand experience.

Overall, we were very impressed with our first visit to Kauai, this condo, & staff at the Kiahuna Plantation Resort.

Perfect Getaway!

Unit 308 is in a serene location overlooking the Moir Cactus Garden and is the perfect place to unwind, take in the view, and listen to all of the birds! Plus, It is just a short walk to one of our favorite swimming beaches.

The condo is nicely decorated with traditional Hawaiian motif and is very clean. The kitchen is well stocked, and, for the chefs, you will be happy to know that it has a new set of knives. (Beautiful gas barbeques are nearby, too.) The bed is comfortable and the condo is oriented to capture the trade winds.

We definitely look forward to a return trip!

Wonderful Stay at Kiahuna 308

My wife and I had stayed in a different unit within the same building (38) last summer and we really enjoyed the location and proximity to the shopping area across the street and short drive/walk to the pool and beach. Other reasons for choosing this unit over others included the price and availability of HD television. We are Warriors fans and I was so grateful we had HD programming to watch the NBA Finals while we were there (regardless of the unfortunate outcome). Robert was very kind and easy to communicate with prior to our stay.

This condo met our needs nicely and it is only a few slight changes away from being a 5-star unit:

*Pro's: HDTV, comfortable bed, ice maker in the freezer (don't have to buy ice), boogie boards and skim board provided (great for kids), folding chair w/sunshade was nice to have.

*Con's: Owner could have provided a cooler, no stereo/music player for the unit, beach chairs were very small and cheap (they sell the nice Tommy Bahama ones at Costco for a reasonable price and it would go a long way to have 2+ stocked in the unit instead of the little cheap ones), the fins in the closet were badly cracked and need to be replaced (also would be nice to stock with 2+ pairs), the bedroom fan makes a slight "ticking" noise for the light sleepers out there, and the lighting was a little dim throughout the unit (most importantly in the bathroom and vanity area).

So overall we enjoyed our stay and the condo met our expectations but we had to rent Tommy B chairs and a snorkel set from a nearby shop because the condo didn't have a cooler (the chair has a cooler built-in and they're also more comfortable than what was provided) or snorkel/fins for us. All of which can be provided by the owner at a small cost to really "wow" renters in the future. It would really have people raving about this condo. We expected to rent these items and Robert made no promises that these would be provided. He was very honest an up-front with me prior to booking.

Owner's Response: As always we are thrilled Brett and his wife enjoyed their stay. However, I would like to clarify the chair issue. Free chairs, lounges, and beach towels are available thru Kiahuna's beach hut activity center. The chairs in the living room closet, actually left by other guests, are for your convenience and enjoyment at other beaches on the island. Since reading Brett's comment we have upgraded the existing chairs with 2 canvas chairs with back packs. I also contacted maintenance regarding the noise and just verified with the current guests (whom have stayed with us for several weeks in July for the past 10 years) that this is not an issue. It might be noted that we have an excellent maintenance staff which is available to provide assistance. Finally, please feel free to forward any questions or concerns. Mahalo, Bob and Susie

Our stay in room 308 was wonderful. The bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and living room provided plenty of space for two adults, and the entire area was very clean. The lanai overlooked the beautiful Moir garden, and that too provided plenty of space to eat or just lounge. Because we were on the second floor we had privacy and hardly ever heard our neighbors. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen and ate at least half our meals there, saving us a ton of money. When we did indulge at a restaurant we enjoyed Keoki's Paradise across the street and the nearby Kalapaki Joe's sports bar. (You can't beat Joe's happy hour prices and their 25 cent chicken wings.) If you have some extra cash to burn, you will not be disappointed at the nearby Sheraton's Rum Fire restaurant. This is not the first time we have used room 308 and I hope it will not be the last. We honestly can't think of a single negative thing to say about our experience. Except maybe we should have stayed longer.

Rose and Doug and teenage girls

This was our first trip to Kauai with our two teenage daughters and we could not have asked for a better location or better hosts. Bob spent as much time as I needed on the phone before the trip to give his experienced advice and answer questions from the mundane to the extreme, as well as shared his fantastic photos. Susie and his condo is clean, efficient, and perfectly located above the gorgeous Moir Gardens with a peek of the ocean. The walk to the ocean takes you through the gardens and around the lagoon. Once there, you have a choice of sitting on the clipped grass or the sandy beach. Service from Outrigger is excellent. We'll be back!

We have stayed in many rentals in Hawaii & Bob will rate as one of the best hosts we have had. His suggestions of what to do on Kauai & the furnishings & amenities in his unit are outstanding. The Poipu Athletic Beach club, a 3 minute drive, is one of the best we have seen. It has a wading pool, complete with sand, for the little ones, hot tub, weight & cardio areas, pub/restaurant all included in your rental. This unit is privately owned, however unlike many other complexes, this complex is operated similar to a hotel. The Outrigger staff are polite, courteous & helpful. If anything is needed it is resolved quickly & efficiently.
