A quaint cottage on the beautiful Emerald Lake, in Bellingham WA. is fully equipped and ready for you to put your feet up and relax. The cottage is all dressed-up inside and out: take a tour of the photo gallery.
The furnishings are luxurious for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped for excellent dining and the vacation basics. The overnight accommodations are suitable for small groups and families: a queen bed in one bedroom, two twin beds in the second bedroom and a queen pull-out sofa.
All rooms look-out over the huge sun-deck to see the shimmering water of Emerald Lake below. A rowboat, two kayaks, and a spacious dock await you lakeside. What are you waiting for?
Best of all, a car rarely passes yet it is only short jaunt down the hill to all major shopping and Bellis Fair. Here you can literally shop until you drop. Oh yes... and if you are an outdoor enthusiast we have skiing, golfing, hiking, biking, fishing, and of course, napping and reading, nearby.
Dogs allowed with permission of owner.
We are a retired couple with a passion for making your stay satisfying and trouble-free. We delight in finding the 'little things' that add a special, memorable touch to your time with us. Our large family is far-flung, but whenever they visit us, they invariably place a visit to Emerald Lake Retreat on the to-do list!
Linda has been visiting Emerald Lake with family friends since her childhood, and when the opportunity arose to buy a charming retreat for herself and to share with others, the decision was clear. So here we are!
We (4 adults) just stayed for a week while visiting my son who lives in Bellingham. All of us agreed we will be regulars. Linda is awesome, responded to my ONE question quickly even while she was on vacation herself (I only had one question because the whole rental process was surprisingly easy). Even the neighbors are amazing. The only thing we thought was missing was a fire pit in the yard :)
To address some of these previous reviews...If you are going to spend all of your time inside, and have small kids, then yeah, it might get crowded, but NONE of us could manage to go inside when there is such a huge deck, beautiful yard and garden, then another huge deck down on the lake. Granted, it only rained once during the week we were there, but even in the rain I opened an umbrella, grabbed a book and a blanket and sat out on the deck. No problems with space at all...and that is even including the nights my son came to visit after work, so there were 5 adults. Yeah, you can tell smoking is allowed, but to us it was mild, and none of us smoke. We opened the doors and problem solved. It did not penetrate clothing at all. Rent this place. Go, relax, kayak, look at some eagles, hike Horseshoe Bend, keep your expectations realistic and be nice. Enjoy the benefits of Linda's pride in ownership. Also, go have breakfast at Home Skillet. You're welcome.
The property and surroundings are lovely and as described. Unfortunately for me, I missed the fine print that said "smoking allowed". What that means is the house smells like cigarettes, so if you are sensitive to that sort of thing like I am, stay away. Here's hoping that I can wash the smell out of my clothes.
Still giving 4 stars because we were otherwise pleased (and managed to spend a lot of time outdoors) and it was my fault that I missed the fine print.
My husband and I stayed at the Emerald Lake (Toad Lake) cottage last week and had a wonderful time. Linda (the owner) was happy to answer all our questions and replied to us promptly.
The lake is a peaceful and relaxing setting (no power boats). While the fishing wasn't great (too late in the season), we had a fun time swimming, kayaking and floating on the lake. It is a small and clean lake.
The cabin was perfect for the two of us. There was plenty of places to sit in the living room. As previously mentioned, there is only a counter/bar seating in the cabin, but we only ate our breakfast inside and ate all our other meals on the beautiful top deck overlooking the lake. While our weather was absolutely perfect, if it had rained, Linda has provided 3 (!!!) large umbrellas on the upper deck and so still we could have enjoyed the outdoors. There is a BBQ and the most comfortable lounge chairs I have ever sat in, kayaks, canoe, row boat (with oars and PFDs) and floaty things. What more could we ask for- nothing!! It was perfect!.
BTW if you stay here, take a drive down Bay View Edison Road then State Route 20 to Anacordes (don't miss Washington State Park) (about 1 hour each way). BEAUTIFUL views!
We just completed a two month stay and could not be more pleased! The owner was so welcoming and accommodating . The cottage was spotless ans so cozy. Whenever we had a question, it was answered immediately. Very comfortable beds and beautiful grounds as well as everything else. Beautiful and memorable..thank you!!
The cabin is cozy and beautiful in some aspects, but fails miserably in some very important areas, especially when you factor in the not-so-cheap price.
There is no dining area inside the cabin, aside from the counter located in the very, very small kitchen, at which it would be hard to fit more than 3 people comfortably at the bar-style seating area. This is fine for 2 people, maybe even 3, if you enjoy eating while sitting beside each other; however, for a family of 4 or 5 that enjoys eating meals together, the only option is the deck. This is nice when it is nice weather, but this is the Pacific Northwest - It's illogical to have the only dining table located outside. It rained 2 of the 4 nights we (5 people) were here, which made for cold and damp meals some of the time. We were lucky it didn't rain very hard. I can't imagine having more than 2 people eating here in the winter.
The lighting in the cabin was very inadequate. Eight light bulbs were burnt out and 2 of the light fixtures didn't work. Probably most lacking was the fact that there is no lighting outside, where the only dining table is located. Nevertheless, there are more towels than anyone could ever need, and extra linen too. The interior decoration is very nice, if that’s a concern of yours in a rental cabin.
The property is very nice, with great landscaping and great outdoor areas. Plenty of different spots to read a book, have a conversation, sip some tea or stare out at the lake. The water equipment supplied is a bonus, but for the 3 kayaks there is only one paddle. The canoe is a great touch. The waterfront deck with table is a nice touch as well.
The location is fantastic. Toad Lake is, in my mind, the perfect lake: quiet, secluded, and under developed. It’s a great contrast to Lake Whatcom, and only a 10 minute drive from it, as well as the rest of Bellingham.
Overall, this cabin is not of great value. With that said, the location is beautiful, and the outdoor space is fantastic. Unfortunately, neither of those aspects outweigh the lack in an inside dining area. If you are two people, its for you. Anymore, look somewhere else.
My family which includes 3 teenagers recently stayed at this wonderful home and were so pleased! It is even nicer than the pictures show. It is cozy, but my family was very comfortable, it is beautifully decorated, has everything you need. It is in just a beautiful location on a quiet lake. We enjoyed the comfortable home, beautiful landscaping, two large decks one by the house and another by the water. We had a great time swimming from the swim dock, kayaking, BBQ and the boys really appreciated the fishing gear. It was a very relaxing place to spend our vacation. The second bedroom is accessible only from the outside on the deck, which may be an issue for small children, but there is a sofabed in the living room also.
The owner was very helpful and prompt in responding to us. I would definitely recommend this home, and we hope to return again.
A private waterfront cottage on the NE edge of Bellingham . Great shopping includes Bellis Fair Mall.
Fantastic recreational area including water's edge cottage with ocean kayaks and fishing. Mt Baker is just down the road about 30 minutes with snow sports and mountain biking , hiking and backpacking.
