This was a perfect place for our sisters and cousins weekend. We loved being able to hang out on the deck, the screened porch, the living room, and most of all the deck down by the river. Such a wonderful place to sip wine and catch up with family. We also enjoyed biking and walking along the tow path. On the one day that it was drizzling, we drove around the countryside and found covered bridges, an apiary and a dairy with free samples! Some friends of mine had been raving about this house for years and it absolutely lived up to their description.
If you are looking for the perfect getaway with family, this is the home for you! We started our search looking for a cabin on the water that was accessible for my mother-in-law. After many hours searching we came across Joan's larger property in Upper Black Eddy. We contacted Joan and she quickly returned our information request. She was able to offer us this home for the dates we wanted to travel. It was the perfect size for our needs and the location and amenities provided were exactly what we were looking for. The home has an elevator, a handicap accessible bathroom, and is directly on the Delaware River. Once my sons (10 & 16) figured out how to read the provided hand-drawn map, which was in itself quite the adventure for them, they were rewarded with riding the provided bikes on the tow path to Homestead for ice cream and giant chocolate chip cookies. It was great to see them enjoying each other's company without computers and handheld devices connecting them! We also loved having access to two kayaks and a canoe which my husband used to float along the river for hours testing his luck at catching fish. When my in-laws weren't feeling up to joining in on the river fun, they were able to sit inside or on the main deck. If you are traveling with older family members, they can be comfortable and not feel left out. They could still watch us on the river & take in the beautiful water, trees, & birds. For me, the highlight was sitting around the fire pit making s'mores. Everyone got to test out their cooking skills and decide who roasted the most perfect marshmallow. The kitchen was beautiful. I have never stayed in a rental home that was as impeccably equipped. You only need to bring the food you want to cook and everything else is already there for you. Leave the towels, soaps, detergents, spices, etc...all at home and just bring yourselves. We were only able to stay for a short trip, but we would definitely book this home again and recommend it to our family and friends. It is a perfect place to unwind, disconnect, and delight in having everyone under the same roof together. Thank you Joan!
We had a wonderful time at Joan's home. Right from the onset she set herself apart from others by providing contact info and going over the home layout . This was important as we were traveling with our elderly mom, and her comfort and convenience was key. We were greeted with a welcome note and a bottle of wine! As she stated, the house was fully complete with all needed for settling right in. The floor plan was accessible for a wheelchair, and was a very family oriented set up. The bedrooms with their individual bathrooms was nice. The location to the river, canal with toe path, and local quaint towns provided ample activity for the remainder of the family group. I can stay that great memories were made and would recommend this home to others. Thanks Joan!
Our stay was nothing short of spectacular! The house was immaculate and equipped with endless amenities. The location was peaceful, and the view picturesque. The owner, Joan, was the consummate host. She was extremely professional, and provided all the information we needed for planning purposes. Joan went out of her way to make herself available for questions, and even called once during our stay to make sure we were content. Her caring and thoughtful approach transcended customer service. Simply stated, she set the bar on hospitality. I would absolutely recommend this property to our friends and family.
This home is truly lovely and it's a great space for a weekend getaway. Joan, the owner, is wonderful to work with and very helpful with travel logistics and info. We went on a February weekend with good friends - 4 adults, 4 kids in all. The bedrooms nicely accommodate flexible sleeping arrangements (we used pack n plays and air beds - all of which Joan has stocked in her home!)
The house is also well supplied with baking dishes and cooking supplies and we grilled/cooked some great meals over the weekend. I would definitely return to this beautiful house - maybe next time in the summer so we can swim in the river!
The River House is a terrific place to stay even on the heels of a snowstorm. The day we were supposed to leave our home we had a 20” snowfall and a declared state of emergency in New Jersey. Joan graciously gave us time to dig out and begin our vacation a few days later. She was wonderful to work with and gave us very helpful suggestions of good restaurants and interesting places to visit.
This beautifully decorated home is an absolute delight. It has everything you would wish for, including an easy to use fireplace, an elevator, a spacious garage, beautiful rooms, and a well-equipped comfortable kitchen. The views from the dining room and decks are marvelous. The morning light in the upstairs bedroom is especially wonderful. We enjoyed many hours relaxing and watching birds floating down the Delaware River.
It’s a wonderful, relaxing place to stay in an area with much to offer outdoor enthusiasts, shoppers, and anyone who enjoys good food. We had an excellent time and plan to return again soon. We highly recommend visiting the area and staying at the River House.
