We rented both of Joan's river homes for our family reunion. The younger family members (25-31 years) stayed in this home. The older relatives (52-100 years) stayed in the larger home that is one mile away. This arrangement was perfect for our family. The younger people had their space to stay up into the wee hours, while the older folks were snoozing. The youngsters kayaked and canoed to the larger home every day--it took them about 15 minutes. Both homes have docks. Both homes are beautiful, well furnished, clean, and were a joy to rent. The owner is helpful and friendly. I would rent both these homes again. Thank you, Joan, for helping our family to have the best vacation.
This river house is the perfect getaway for a family. Our children who range in age from 23 to 13 enjoyed kayaking and canoeing on the river! When we weren't swimming and kayaking on the river we enjoyed the nice deck right on the river as well as the house deck. We also took advantage of the bikes and rode on the tow path down to the little Homestead General Store for ice cream. We enjoyed cooking in the beautiful kitchen which was stocked with everything you need to prepare a delicious meal as well as a gas grill on the deck! It was nice to sit on the beautiful screened in porch at night. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the river house and we are all looking forward to going again soon!
Joan’s house is awesome! Fantastic location. Great house. All the amenities you could think of. Plus a super helpful and pleasant host. We have a large family. Five kids - two boys 16 and 6, three girls 14, 11, and almost 2. This is our 5th experience with renting through HomeAway. I loved the other places we’ve stayed and rated them 5 stars. Joan’s house I would have to rate six stars if I could.
Bikes - There are 6 full size bikes and at least two kids bikes. The bikes were in great shape for being at a rental house. (Air pump was available but we didn't need it.) We rode them up and down the tow path almost every day. One day walked them across the bridge to Millford, NJ and rode around the little town (picked up some bakery items at the bakery located just to the right after crossing the bridge - the chocolate chip muffins were still hot when I biked home with them!) There is even a bike carrier if you wanted to take the bikes somewhere else to ride.
Watercraft - There are two kayaks and one metal canoe. There were more than enough life jackets in all different sizes. There were also some inner-tubes. The kayaks were the biggest hit. My wife and two oldest kids had never kayaked before. All three learned very quickly and loved it!
Walking - The tow path was great for walking. Either early morning or as group headed down to the Homestead for ice cream or breakfast. We saw deer and turtles and skipped rocks on the canal.
Sesame Place - We spent a day there. Great fun. Kinda of pricey. We went for my youngest children, but even my teenagers had a blast.
Washington’s Crossing - Cool half a day trip. We didn’t spend any money for any of the tours, just walked around the park.
Ringing Rocks Park - Literally less than 10 minutes from the house. Cool park. Joan has hammers in the garage. There is a waterfall in the park. In late June there wasn’t much water flowing over it. It is probably very cool to look at during April or May.
Cooking - My wife decided that on this vacation the three oldest kids were going to cook one meal and one desert. The kitchen was well equipped and large.
Fire pit - Plenty of firewood and a great fire pit to make s’mores or just to enjoy an outdoor fire.
All in all it was a great trip. Great memories.
This was a perfect place for our sisters and cousins weekend. We loved being able to hang out on the deck, the screened porch, the living room, and most of all the deck down by the river. Such a wonderful place to sip wine and catch up with family. We also enjoyed biking and walking along the tow path. On the one day that it was drizzling, we drove around the countryside and found covered bridges, an apiary and a dairy with free samples! Some friends of mine had been raving about this house for years and it absolutely lived up to their description.
If you are looking for the perfect getaway with family, this is the home for you! We started our search looking for a cabin on the water that was accessible for my mother-in-law. After many hours searching we came across Joan's larger property in Upper Black Eddy. We contacted Joan and she quickly returned our information request. She was able to offer us this home for the dates we wanted to travel. It was the perfect size for our needs and the location and amenities provided were exactly what we were looking for. The home has an elevator, a handicap accessible bathroom, and is directly on the Delaware River. Once my sons (10 & 16) figured out how to read the provided hand-drawn map, which was in itself quite the adventure for them, they were rewarded with riding the provided bikes on the tow path to Homestead for ice cream and giant chocolate chip cookies. It was great to see them enjoying each other's company without computers and handheld devices connecting them! We also loved having access to two kayaks and a canoe which my husband used to float along the river for hours testing his luck at catching fish. When my in-laws weren't feeling up to joining in on the river fun, they were able to sit inside or on the main deck. If you are traveling with older family members, they can be comfortable and not feel left out. They could still watch us on the river & take in the beautiful water, trees, & birds. For me, the highlight was sitting around the fire pit making s'mores. Everyone got to test out their cooking skills and decide who roasted the most perfect marshmallow. The kitchen was beautiful. I have never stayed in a rental home that was as impeccably equipped. You only need to bring the food you want to cook and everything else is already there for you. Leave the towels, soaps, detergents, spices, etc...all at home and just bring yourselves. We were only able to stay for a short trip, but we would definitely book this home again and recommend it to our family and friends. It is a perfect place to unwind, disconnect, and delight in having everyone under the same roof together. Thank you Joan!
We had a wonderful time at Joan's home. Right from the onset she set herself apart from others by providing contact info and going over the home layout . This was important as we were traveling with our elderly mom, and her comfort and convenience was key. We were greeted with a welcome note and a bottle of wine! As she stated, the house was fully complete with all needed for settling right in. The floor plan was accessible for a wheelchair, and was a very family oriented set up. The bedrooms with their individual bathrooms was nice. The location to the river, canal with toe path, and local quaint towns provided ample activity for the remainder of the family group. I can stay that great memories were made and would recommend this home to others. Thanks Joan!
