SAND, SUN, OCEAN and FUN at the BEACH.
Welcome to 'Hale Lokahi', where the only thing between the lanai and the ocean is the long sandy beach that seems to go for miles. The covered oceanfront lanai runs the full width of the house, so you have a front row seat from which to view sizzling sunsets over the ocean towards the island of Niihau. There are very few actual beachfront houses on the Westside, as most have a road between the house and the ocean. BUT NOT HERE!
You can walk to anything and everything from this location. The Waimea River is just short walk away offering fishing and kayaking opportunities. In less than 5 minutes, you can walk to either of the large grocery stores in Waimea, several restaurants and shops, or take in a movie at the Historic Waimea Theater. Walk in the footsteps of Captain Cook, where he came ashore in 1778 as the first Westerner to come to Hawaii. This is old Hawaii and far from the tourist crowds. Quiet and peaceful with the dry sunny climate that guarantees you the best weather for your vacation.
This lovely “beach cottage” belongs to one of the older families of Kauai. Until recently, it was used exclusively by their large family as a place to get together and enjoy the beach. Newly renovated, they have opened up their home to share with a few lucky vacationers. This may be just the place you have been looking for.
This one story cottage sits on a large oceanfront lot and offers 3 bedrooms, two of which are Oceanside, and all 3 have a/c. There are three full baths, so no one has to wait to get ready to enjoy the day. Life here is meant to be lazy and enjoyed. Take a long walk on the beach, sit in the shade of the covered lanai, or just enjoy a good book waiting for one of those fabulous Westside sunsets. Because we face westward, this is the only part of the island that has a sunset view over the ocean, and what a view this is. This house is spacious enough for 3 couples, a large family, or a couple celebrating their wedding with a wonderful honeymoon. There is a large kitchen, fully equipped to make a gourmet meal at home served at your own private ocean-side table. All the furniture and bedding is new along with an updated kitchen and baths. It’s not likely that you will have a rainy day here on the Westside, but if you want to catch one of those morning football games or watch a movie, you have a new 40'' flat screen LCD television complete with 'High Definition' Cable service! We also have a blu-Ray/DVD player, stereo system with CD and ipod dock, and of course, wireless Internet so you can stay stay connected.
So what are you waiting for? If you have the time, we have the perfect place for your vacation.

Waimea. A perfect little Hawaiian village
Clean and neat. Lots of accessories for water use. Fuly equipedl laundry room and kitchen! No need to bring much along. Chad and Sarah (property managers) have thought of everything! We plan to make this an annual event. Locals very friendly and helpful.
Good value for a true beachfront house in Waimea
The covered deck was used every day for our family meals. The weather was very hot upon our arrival so the bedroom AC units were appreciated (although quite noisy making it difficult to sleep; also confirmed by the kids). Still wish the house included central AC as common areas got very warm during the day. The washer & dryer was nice for doing laundry. The couches in the living room were really not very comfortable for our family of five to watch a movie (comparing to home).
While the house is in Waimea and close to the canyon, we found that most days required a drive to the east for activities like ziplining, horseback riding and a luau. While the distance to these events isn’t very far, driving does require more time than you think because of the lower speed limits, curvy roads and traffic.
This house is right in the heart of a beachfront neighborhood; you really do feel like you’re living with the locals here. The location of the house also brings along with it the sounds of a typical neighborhood including loud vehicles late at night and early in the morning (some playing loud radios), noisy garbage trucks collecting the trash at 4:30am, barking dogs and of course chickens crowing at all hours of the night. Sleeping with the windows open also magnifies the undesirable sounds of the neighborhood. We live in the country where it’s quiet so the noisy nights made it challenging to catch a really good night sleep.
The beach is very nice for walking, sitting and playing. Beach shoes protected our feet from the dark-sand that that gets very hot during the mid-day sun. The ocean waves are nice to watch but not ideal for swimming due to the very murky water from the Waimea river discharge just down the beach from the house. The sediment in the water stained our lighter colored swimsuits so be aware of this when packing. We loved using the boogie boards to catch some waves. The beach was like a normal beach during the first part of our stay; then it became very dirty (and smelly) with leaves, , sticks and other debris during the last two days. Guessing the debris was from the river and the change in the surf or a change in the winds. As stated in all of the guide books, this beach is not the typical light-sand Hawaiian beach. Highly recommend visiting Salt Pond Park. The beach at Kekaha was great to watch the local surfers; we even had a chance to see Bethany Hamilton catching some waves there!
This was our sixth stay at Hale Lokahai, which tells you how wonderful this VRBO rental is. Chad is easy to work with, and the property manager, Sarah, is just a phone call away. The sound of the waves, the magnificent sunsets, stars falling into the ocean, the clacking of the palm fronds, occasional raindrops on the covered lanai bringing rainbows - these are some of the reasons we return each year! The house comes with beach chairs/umbrellas/toys/water shoes/snorkels/towels/boogie boards; everything you need for beach adventures! There are many tour books to help you plan your adventure, knowing that there is a comfy home to return to. In the kitchen, you'll find condiments, spices, blender, complete set of dishes/glasses/pots & pans; BBQ on the lanai. Ishihara's has the best selection of poke and Jojo's shaved ice behind the Captain Cook monument is a must. If you're looking for local flavor, Hale Lokahai is soooo much better than being at a huge resort hotel!
We stayed at the house for 11 days and loved it. The house was very clean and well furnished from inside to everything you need on the beach. The location is wonderful with a perfect a beautiful sunset every evening. We were very close to Waimea Caynon and went up there times to sight see and hike. We have done VRBO at least 12 times and Chad was the easiest person we have ever had to work with.
My Fiance' and I spent six wonderful days at Hale Lokahi. First of all the home is very well appointed with pretty much everything you need from the kitchen to linens, beach toys, gas grill etc... It was very clean and is well maintained. The ocean is your "backyard". The weather was beautiful while we were there and we only used the air conditioner in the bedroom twice. We did a lot of sightseeing around the island but were always excited to get back to the house to relax. There is a fantastic lanai along the back of the house where you can enjoy incredible sunsets every evening. We ate out only a couple of times while we were there as we enjoyed cooking on the grill and dining on the lanai with that incredible view. In fact we did not eat a single meal inside at the table! The town of Waimea is so charming and we really enjoyed the experience of staying where you get an idea of real Kauai life. The waves are rather rough on this beach but there are plenty of places close by you can drive to if you want to swim. The rental process was easy and Chad is wonderful to work with. I hope we can return to Kauai again soon. I would definitely stay here again!!
Best Birthday Ever
I had the great good fortune to celebrate my birthday on Kauai with three wonderful friends. This house was a fantastic base camp for all of our activities on this trip. Mornings always started out slowly, sipping our coffee and enjoying the beautiful view from the lanai or strolling on the beach just a few steps away. The kitchen is very well equipped and there's a treasure trove of toys and equipment for the beach in the garage, and plenty of beach towels in the linen closet. The whole house is attractive, clean and comfortable, and conveniently located. There are a couple of grocery stores within walking distance, and the road to Waimea Canyon is nearby. After a day at one of the beaches and/or exploring the rest of the island, it's great to go to sleep listening to the ocean. I'd love to go back some day.
