About Sally Kauffman

I have spent the summers on Bass Lake since I was a child and learned to know and love the area. Now I am fortunate to create the next generation of memories on the lake since we purchased this old resort with other family members. My career as an RN has provided me the opportunity to relocate to the Traverse City area and work at the local hospital. I have 2 sons who have also helped in the collaborative effort renovating the cottage. We spend as much time as possible at the lake to unwind and gather with family.

Why Sally Kauffman chose Northern Michigan

I am familiar with the area along with many family members who own property on Bass Lake. The setting is very quiet and serene yet 10 minutes from Traverse City.

What makes this cabin unique

The cottage is very quaint and cozy. It is very quiet and serene on the shore of the lake. Excellent fishing and boating. A great place to unwind and relax or bring the kids for a fun vacation. Endless things to do at the lake and in the Traverse City area.

Hostess with the Mostess!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at this quaint little cottage on the lake!! Two bedrooms plus a futon made it perfect and incredibly affordable for our party of 5. Despite the heat (it was in the 90's) the cottage is shaded by woods and has many ceiling fans to keep it comfortable, even during a heat wave. And there's always the lake. Small, well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Sally, the owner, was close enough to help with anything we needed. She was also (over) careful to respect our privacy, so if solitude is what you seek, still a great choice. But we are social people who LOVED her company, stories, tips, etc. She even took us out on her pontoon for a cruise around the lake and partied with us a bit- what a hoot! The fire pit was the gathering place at night while we watched lightning bugs and shooting stars buzz on by while listening to the soothing sounds of the night frogs. We almost felt like locals by the end of the trip and we're sad to leave. We will be back Sally, and we're bringing some more cold Michigan brewskis with us! Thanks for everything!

Great vacation on a quiet lake.

  • 4 of 5

I had a great 2 week vacation at this cozy cabin on Bass Lake. It was exactly what I was expecting - no surprises. I had an internet connectivity issue when I arrived that was quickly resolved. Other than that, I enjoyed fishing in the mornings/evenings, relaxing in a lounge chair on the well as hiking Sleeping Bear Dunes and visiting the great wineries in the area. I hope I have the opportunity to vacation here again.

Darling Up North Cottage!!

  • 4 of 5

This cottage was a sweet, peaceful, and a refreshing get away. We enjoyed a classic "up north" experience on Bass Lake listening to the call of loons, yet Traverse City, great restaurants, and shopping were just minutes away. We will definitely return!!
