My husband and I met on Maui. We love to windsurf and the North Shore of Maui is the perfect spot for this, along with kite sailing and paddle boarding. The kids love the ocean, the pool and the tennis courts. We have found that even just a few days in our beautiful condo on the beach ('Hale Surf') is rejuvenating. There is nothing as peaceful as sleeping to the sound of the ocean. We think you will love it. We do!
Patricia Nealon purchased this condo in 2002
Located right on the beach, the location is perfect for many kinds of ocean activities including windsurfing, snorkeling, kite sailing and paddle boarding. The property has one of the finest sandy beaches on the north shore. The grounds are spectacular with beautiful lawns, tropical trees, flowers. There is a pool and tennis courts, even basketball.
Maui's north shore is famous for cool tradewinds, surf and sandy beaches, which makes it the ideal watersport vacation destination. But, you can't stay in a hotel on the north shore. There aren't any. The central tourist areas are located on the south and west sides of Maui. On the north shore, you won't find a building taller than a coconut tree and vacation rentals are scarce. Beachfront rentals are even more rare. Hale Surf's location can't be beat. Just 3 miles away, you can explore the quaint surf town of Paia, which hosts boutique shops and excellent restaurants from organic flatbread pizza to fresh grilled fish. Less traffic, less tourists and more sand, surf and wind makes Hale Surf the ultimate Hawaiian getaway.
Walking into this wonderful, beautiful, comfortable, relaxing home was beyond my expectations. The view takes your breath away, the sounds of the waves, palm trees and birds makes your senses come alive and feel incredible!! I love every room, the comfortable beds (so important) and the newly updated bathrooms with GREAT showers! The kitchen had all the amenities you need and more so. The owners really know how to live in Hawaii, and how to make us feel comfortable and at home!
The location was terrific and allowed you to go for leisurely walks, drives and just hang out. I loved how the local town of Paia was accessible by a gentle walk on the beach and path. Paia is a small town, but has all you need as far as restaurants and shops.
And a good luck charm were the turtles that were visible on the beach late at night or their trails in the morning.
If you are a wind surfer, paddle boarder, surfer, swimmer, beach lounger or like just hanging out, this is the best place. You feel like you are away from everything but close enough to be in the mix.
My experience at this magnificent home was one that I'll never forget.
THE HOUSE: The home is absolutely stunning, comfortable open areas for families of any size to sit around as you gaze at the ocean and manicured surroundings. Impeccably designed, the rooms are large with all the accommodations that you'd want in Hawaii. An important piece to rating where I stay are the beds. I have a temperamental back and thankfully, the beds (not to mention the sheets) were ALL so comfortable. One of the best parts of this house (there are so many) was that you fall asleep listening to the waves - very spectacular.
HOUSE SURROUNDINGS: The location of the house could not be better. You walk out onto the patio and are feet away from the sand. While the waves were a little intense (they are larger on this side of the island) there were little kids boogie boarding in them - so no issue there. If you like to take your morning coffee and stroll along the beach, this is the place. You'll see turtles, whales and the beauty of Maui at your fingertips. It's magical.
THE TOWN OF PAIA: The town of Paia is walk-able from the house - maybe a mile or a 5 minute car ride. Downtown are some of the best 'secret' restaurants I've ever been to. Everything is fresh and delicious. There is a local organic supermarket that I wish I had in my town. They have EVERYTHING you could imagine and the owners are the sweetest. Maui is known for being more low key and this town definitely speaks to the locals. Paia is a town where you can walk around in flip flops, shorts and a bathing suit top and you'll fit in marvelously. That said, if you want to get more dressed up, the famous Mama's Fish House is just around the corner. Paia is relaxing with a great welcoming energy.
LOCATION ON MAUI: What I enjoyed so much about the location of the house was we were so close to many other attractions - the fancy part of the island. We went to Wailea one day and had cocktails at sunset at one of the bigger hotels. We also went to a great snorkeling beach about 20 minutes away. One day we drove about twenty minutes and 'hiked' up to some waterfalls. I say 'hiked', because it was more of a walk but you are surrounded by lushness. There are much more difficult hikes available. After each adventure, it was so nice to come 'home'. Because it really does feel like your home. There were many days we just hung out around the house.
I recommend this slice of heaven 100x over and can't wait to go back!
We have been to Maui several times and will never stay anywhere else again! This condo is 100 steps from the ocean and I'm not talking about from the sand! That is only about 75 steps across a beautiful manicured lawn. Each morning, we walked down the beach about 80 yards and sipped our coffee watching the turtles play in the surf. Unbelievable! In the afternoons, we sat on the deck and watched kite and wind surfers sail from our beach. That's right, we didn't even have to walk those few steps to the beach to see this everyday. The instant you walk into the condo, you see the beautiful color of that blue water and you feel the stress from everyday life float away. In the mood for a volcano instead? Look out the window from the dining room and view Haleakala. This place has it all. Comfortable beds, beautiful kitchen, big living room areas, showers that massage your feet while you're in them, and a deck with a spectacular view. Hungry? Drive 4 short miles to Paia for the best cajun/blackened mahi you will ever have. We ate it everyday while there and I don't even like fish! This condo is on the quieter side of the island and it gets the trade winds so you don't suffer from the heat and humidity like on the other side. Will I go back? Every chance I get! I recommend you go, but not in September because that is when I'll be there! Have fun and don't miss out!
We walked in the door and said "wow". The first
night my wife told me the pictures don't do it
justice. During our trip we stayed at three places
(also the Hyatt and Lokelani Condos) and this was
View, decor, carpet-like lawn to play on, ground
floor patio (grandpa could watch the kids play on
the lawn from the porch), heated pool (kids spent a
lot of time there), Paia - we liked it better than
Lahaina, Mana Foods, Flatbread, proximity to
kitesurfing lessons at Kite Beach, Maui Yoga Studio
(wife loved it and would go back to Maui just for
that). Would love to stay again sometime. Thanks
for sharing it.
