Mirador de la Playa is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy yourself on the west coast of Nicaragua about an hour west of Managua and jsut south of the twin fishing villages of Masachapa and Pochomil. The home is unique in every way, and we are positive you will enjoy your stay. It is a romantic rustic-style two level home situated directly on the beach front with soft warm sand and the best waves around. The property is completely covered with almond, coconut, mango, lime and banana trees providing the option of a cool relaxing afternoon on the patio or soaking up the sun on the beach or upper deck. The house was built in the late 90's as a private vacation home and was recently turned in to a full time Vacation Rental property. This is a wonderful getaway home so don't hesitate to visit us. Once you spend time in our home you will feel rejuvenated and away from your hectic schedule.
Also, please check out our turismocanica web site for a peek into our new boutique hotel in Managua scheduled to open in May. You can also send inquiries from the website to book the beach house.
We also continue to upgrade the property. We have put new tile in the showers, painted the interior and installed a complete new roof and new exterior lights, installed new air conditioners, a second water tank and a pressurized water system and will be doing yet more upgrades this spring (2016).
The onsite caretaker will take care of the dishes, cleaning the house, changing the sheets and looking after the yard. If you prefer not to cook, we can arrange for that at a very reasonable price.
The house has about 1000 ft sq of interior space and with covered decks is about 2200 ft sq. The property is 60 feet wide fronting on the ocean and 280 feet deep.
Bedroom dimensions are:
Master 20 x 10 ft;
2 upper bedrooms - 13 x 10 ft;
Main floor - 10 x 10.
All bathrooms are 10 x 5 with fully tiled shower 5 feet wide, toilet and sink and medicine cabinet.
We are Turismo CaNica. Transforming Nicaragua (and most likely ourselves) one tourist at a time. We cater to tourist and business traveler alike but our primary goal is to introduce travelers to the wonders of Nicaragua. We are two expat Canadians, Shannon and Michael, embracing the Nicaraguan culture, lifestyle, food and climate, not quite ready to retire and still possessed of enough life to pursue an alternative experience, atypical to that of our North American neighbors.
Please check out our turismocanica web site for a peek into our new boutique hotel in Managua opening in July. You can also send inquiries from the website to book the beach house.
Michael Edmonds purchased this house in 2009
We are right on the beach. 5 steps from the front terrace.
The property is completely covered with lovely almond trees that provide great share and respite from the heat. Should you prefer the direct sun, the upper patio in the afternoon is wide open to the sun or simply take 10 steps forward, lay down a large beach blanket (supplied) and soak up the tropical sun. But be careful. The sun will burn you faster than you may be used to especially if you are from North America or anywhere further from the equator. We want you to go home relaxed and with a nice tan.
The area is very quite typically with very few people on the beach outside of the major holidays and even then at our location, it is always quiet.
You can walk quite literally for miles on the beach and not encounter more than a handful of locals.
Starting in July (2016) we will be able to put you up at the beach and in Managua at our new El Mirador Hotel and Lounge if you need a night or 2 there. Contact us on our turismocanica site.
The beach is the perfect place for relaxing and taking in a few day trips.
Granada - a very popular Spanish colonial city with many restaurants, hotels and boat tours of the beautiful Isletas (islands),
Masaya - Check out a live volcano and the local artisan craft market,
Mombocho - ride to the top for a hike in the rain forest and then hit the Zip line at the bottom before you leave,
Catarina - Take in the stunning views of Laguno de Apoyo crater and the local craft market,
Leon - another Spanish colonial city with beautiful churches. If you are a little more adventuresome, then you can add on an afternoon of sand boarding down the side of a volcano...yes you heard that right...no snow required.
All only a day trip away from the beach house or our Managua hotel.
We can put you up at our hotel in Managua for the first and last nights of your stay or a little longer if you wish to do day trips from there. Then we can take you to the beach for your relaxation and any other day trips you wish to do. We can book all your other accommodations, arrange transportation and help you plan your trip.
If you feel like a surf lesson at the beach we can even arrange that for an afternoon. We also have 4 boogie boards that guests are welcome to use to go play in the surf.
We are also happy to help answer any questions you may have about Nicaragua to help plan your stay. We have Canadian, American and local phone numbers so we are just a short phone call away.
And between ourselves and our Operations Manager, we can communicate in English or Spanish.
Drop us a note. We would love to hear from you.
My brother and I, rent this house, its just great. clean, and the people working there, just amaze, they keep everything clean and we cant ask for more. thanks its was a very pleasant experience.
Everything we needed was available near by, Marcelo and his family are just wonderful people always there when you needed them and always making sure we and our personal belongings were safe and secured, he moves like a cat in the middle of the night putting everything away and locking all doors without disturbing your sleep waking up really early in the morning to put everything back out after cleaning up the house. I ask Michael before we travel that we needed Internet access and he made sure that was taking care of and it took a lot work for the local cable company but was we had Internet after a couple of days.
The beach is magnificent and pretty much all for our self beside a couple of local dogs. A little rocky so I recommend beach shoes at low tide but absolutely beautiful.
We travel to Nicaragua quite often and stayed in many places but this is one I'll return to, Awesome, private, clean and safe, you could not ask for more.
Thank you Michael, Marcelo an his whole family on behalf of mine.
See you soon!!
Our family had a memorable time during our stay at this breathtaking beach. The house caretakers are a wonderful family who make sure you are well-taken care off and assist you in a minute's call. We are so grateful for their kindness and special attention to Marcelo and his family.
We loved the mornings waking up to the sounds of the sea and having dinner with the most impressive sunsets you can experience. Food was deliciously prepared at nearby restaurants like Alta Mar, our favorite with personalized attention.
We all relaxed and loved our stay to the fullest. A paradise to go back soon again.
I just spent 5 days in this house and everythnig was excellent.
The house is a rustic house, wooden and very comfortable.
Everything was clean, the linens, towels, kitchen, etc.
The kitchen is completely equiped...refrigerator and stove new. We did not lack anything, everything was near, groceries, pharmacies, etc. Water and electricity never fail like in other beaches in high seasons !
Marcelo and his family, the caretaker, were so nice and kind, allways asking if we need something.
That side of the beach is completely private. Only home
owners, no buses, no strangers, only locals.
In low tides, a variety of "pools" in the ocean are formed from rocks , perfect for swimming for at least two hours.
We really enjoy our stay and want to come back !!!
We are approximately one hour away from the International airport in Managua, just south of the twin fishing villages of Masachapa and Pochomil. These villages provide everything an astute traveler needs. There are 2 hardware stores and several Pulpurias (neighborhood store with a bit of everything) and a gas station.
The beach is pretty much empty most of the year except Xmas and Easter so you will have it all to your self. You can walk north past Pochomil to Barcelo Montelimar (all inclusive resort) about 5 miles or south to La Boquita about 15 miles on the beach...uninterrupted. The only people you will likely see are local fisherman catching small fish and lobster in the surf in the morning.
If you are a little more adventurous and want to explore Nicaragua we are about an hour from each of Leon, Managua and Granada (tour the beautiful Isletas on the lake) or shop the markets at Masaya. Tour a rain forest at the top of Mombacho or go for a swim in Laguna de Apoyo, or drive to Rivas (2 hours) and take the ferry across Lake Nigaragua (third largest inland body of water in the world) to the island of Ometepe with twin dormant volcanos, beautiful beaches and many small B&B;/Hotels.
