Welcome to Moosewood Manor! Enjoy our family-friendly, two-story 2300 sq ft custom crafted cabin in the heart of the Pacific Northwest mountains. Located on a secluded, quiet cul-de-sac in the town of Packwood, the house backs up to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and looks out on the Tatoosh Mountain Range.

Minimum stay is two nights or three nights over holidays.

This house has all the essentials for a true mountain retreat. The first floor has expansive vaulted ceilings and an open floor plan with gourmet kitchen, living and dining areas. The kitchen boasts custom cabinetry, a full size pantry, and all the utensils you'll need. Enjoy the beautiful forest and partial mountain views from the floor to ceiling windows in the living room and from the front deck. Relax on our large leather sofa and hand-crafted rocking chairs as you sip a glass of wine or cup of hot cocoa in front of the glowing gas fireplace with river rock surround. Watch the stars as you soak in the large hot tub or roast marshmallows on the outdoor fire pit.

Moosewood Manor sleeps up to 10 adults and 2 children. The romantic master bedroom on the second floor includes a hand-crafted king size log bed, gas fireplace and walk-in-closet. The attached master bathroom has a two person soaking tub, shower, and double sinks. Two additional bedrooms, plus a split bathroom, are found on the first floor. Bedroom one has a hand-crafted queen size log bed while bedroom two has a full size Murphy bed plus a kid-approved bunk bed. Two futons in the den in the daylight basement provide additional sleeping space. The daylight basement also features a second TV and DVD player, mudroom, and half-bath. Throughout the house, you'll find many environmentally friendly features including bamboo, cork, and wool floors and water-saving toilets.

Moosewood Manor is part of the Timberline Village recreational community, which provides access to tennis courts, playground, playing fields, a club house and two seasonal swimming pools. The southeast corner to Mt. Rainier National Park is 15 minutes away, and the White Pass Ski Area, with downhill and cross-country skiing, daycare, and ski school, is 25 minutes away. Nearby lakes include Rife, Mayfield, Takalack, Packwood, Rimrock and Chambers as well as many more where you can find fishing, boating and hiking.

About The Owner

We're the Schubert family: Tim, Arlene, daughter Alexa, and grandson Brendan. Tim and Arlene recently retired. After 18 years living in Tacoma, WA, they're exploring adventures farther afield--currently Lake Chapala, Mexico!

The Owner purchased this house in 2003

Why The Owner chose Mount Rainier

We chose this location because we loved the beauty and hiking of Mount Rainier, the skiing at White Pass, and the easy access from Tacoma and Seattle. We also liked the amenities and great community of Timberline Village, plus the small-town charm of Packwood.

What makes this house unique

We love to hike, ski, and snowshoe. Arlene also recommends the thrift stores of Packwood.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We stayed at Moosewood Manor for our honeymoon and felt like we were at a full-service spa. We lolled in the hot tub under the stars and cooked feasts in the well-stocked kitchen. We also appreciated the sustainable features, like the cork flooring. Deep soaking bathtubs, fireplaces—a perfect mountain retreat!

Beautiful, relaxing home

  • 5 of 5

This home is well maintained and well stocked with all the essentials. The house stays so warm with the fireplaces! It feels like a real home, we were a group of two families with kids and the owners had thought of everything. The hot tub is wonderful surrounded by beautiful woods. It was any easy drive to White Pass. I would highly recommend this home and we hope to return this summer!

The perfect getaway with friends

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for my husband's 30th birthday and it was better than expected. Cozy, comfortable, well stocked and every detail considered. Communication with the owner was great beforehand as well. She was even thoughtful enough to contact us in advance and provide road closure details. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home with our friends. We cannot wait to come back again!

Thanksgiving Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent the long Thanksgiving weekend here for a fun family getaway. My husband, brother-in-law, three kids (ages 6,3, and 1), dog and I had a wonderful time. The house is spacious and well-stocked with everything you could need. I made Thanksgiving dinner here and was very pleasantly surprised to find the kitchen had all the tools that I needed, they really thought of everything! My kids loved tromping around in the woods around the house and relaxing in the hot tub was the perfect end to every day. The fireplaces in the main living room and the master bedroom keep everything toasty and give the house a nice, cozy feel. The fact that the place is named "Moosewood Manor" is just icing on the cake! My kids really got a kick out of the name, as well as the moose décor, and were so sad to leave. The house is very kid-friendly: lots of kids board games, books, a baby gate, and a high chair were all provided. It was also nice to be able to have our dog with us. Because we were there on a cold/rainy winter weekend, we didn't really get out and explore as much as we would have liked to but we're already contemplating a return in the summer when we can enjoy Mt. Rainier and maybe take a day trip to St. Helens. Thanks for a memorable holiday weekend!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

The house was wonderful - had everything we needed. We had a two-year old with us, so brought a baby gate - and also used one that was already there. A beautiful, comfortable home that we'd love to visit again some day!

Highly recommendable place

  • 5 of 5

Our 5-days stay in Packwood in July 2014 was perfect. Nice and warm weather throughout and a warm and very functional family home for accommodation. Moosewood Manor is extremely well equipped, perfectly clean and nicely furnished. It is close to an entrance of Mount Rainier National Park and allows also to visit Mount Saint Helens in one day. It is an excellent basis for hiking trips in the nearby park. Both the +65 and the 7 year old members of our party were equally at ease and enjoyed relaxing and playing in the spacious home. We highly recommend the place.
