About Lee Lopez

I was born and raised in Hawaii. My grand-father arrived in Hawaii in 1849 and he married my Hawaiian grandmother Sarah Kaahanui. I Graduated from the University of Hawaii where I majored in Travel Industry Management. I inherited the property in Hana and built a quality vacation home that I share with my guests.

Lee Lopez purchased this house in 1993

Why Lee Lopez chose Hāna

It lays facing due east of Maui with a clear view of the Pacific Ocean in the direction of Maka'alae Point. Maka'alae Point which means (The beginning of the path to the eye) was known to be the playgrounds of the Alii's (Chiefs) because it is known for its pleasant fair weather conditions. You can see the sunrise out of the Pacific Ocean (and the sometimes the Moon) creeping along the horizon of the water. It is conveniently located in the best spot in Hana making it accessible to all the tourist activities and services. Walking distance to Venus Pools, Hana's beautiful coastline and Hamoa beach. My home is accessible to all the public and private conveniences in the Hana area.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful Home. Quiet & Secluded. Had a wonderful stay in Hana. This house was really close to Venus pools, which I went to everyday. Hamoa was close as well. Great place to relax. The house was really comfortable and very spacious & secluded. Close to town to get food, also.

Best Birthday Ever!

  • 5 of 5

When I arrived on the property, a huge Tiki Statue greeted me! The land was amazing and my friends and I roamed around, we even picked a Jackfruit! We walked to Venus Pools and to Hamoa Beach (a bit longer of a walk, but it was fun!) The kitchen had everything I needed and I set up a champagne brunch the next morning. It was magical. I woke up with the sunrise and did my Qigong practice in the front lawn. It was everything I have ever imagined Paradise would be. Mahalo!

Not a luxury estate

  • 1 of 5

8 adults rented this house. I know accommodations are limited in Hana but this home was not up to par. I personally did not rent this home but was one of the eight that stayed here.

First I will say that the owner is very nice and personable. If you notice, most of the reviews are quite old. At one time this was probably a beautiful home.

We found the grounds overgrown and there were several full garbage cans of garbage and recyclables near the parking area.

Broken down washing machines/dryers/hoses on the property

The sitting outdoor areas furniture was mildewed, and had rat/mice droppings on them, and in horrible condition.

The two king beds in the bedrooms were comfortable, however the beds on the lanai were so hard and uncomfortable that the two couples had sore backs and hips.

The kitchen counter tile grout is disgusting, black moldy grout. The refrigerator leaked air so it was consistently dripping wet on the outside doors.

There are no fans in the house. Portable fans in each room would have been nice. You can't always count on the trade winds to cool down the house.

The screens on the windows had several holes in them, therefore, the mosquitoes were a nuisance.

The cushion on the couch in the living room so soft you had trouble getting off the couch. They had a blanket that was covering the cushion and it was filthy.

There is so much dry rot in and outside the house. I know the area is damp but if you're going to rent out a home this is general maintenance

The location is perfect and as I said before at one time this was a very beautiful home. It needs major maintenance and updating.

If I would have seen a review like mine I would not have rented this home unless I was 21 and needed a party house. I have pictures that I can share but prefer not to post them.

Owner's Response: I am sorry if there are any disappointments with the house with any of my guest. I strive to provide my guest with the best vacation rental in Hana for a rate that is great for the value receive. I welcome any constructive criticism and feed back and take it seriously. I have corrected the problems with the house concerning fans, a new washing machine, new trash cans and have painted the house. I only have one home to rent and it is in high demand because of the location and because it is at a rate that is affordable for a family or small group of friends. I have many satisfied returning local guest and occasionally rent it on a back to back situation. My housekeepers cannot do a thorough cleaning when they are not informed in advance of the number of guest staying at the house and if they plan to have a late check out. Hana lies in a tropical rain forest, the front door should be kept closed to keep insects form entering and food should not be left on the kitchen counters at night. I have a large double door French refrigerator and if closed properly will hold a large amount of food. Maui County Trash pick up is one day in the week on Wednesdays. Attached is a list of satisfied guest that have just stayed at the house. Testimony Aloha Lee, I just stayed in your house March 25, 2017 in Hana with Heather & Dave Kahl....the folks with the pheasant incident. Totally loved the place, wishing we were there longer. Mahalo. Sherri

a fabulous piece of paradise!!!

  • 5 of 5

anyone who found this place to be less than wonderful should stay in a Hyatt or Hilton they don't want to stay and a Hawaiian home!!! this place is absolutely fabulous! it is a tropical jungle area of the island so of course there are bugs but none in the home that we found it was very clean, well kept and ready for our enjoyment! we have already called to try and book again next month and plan on using this as our home in Hana... The owner could not be more personable and accommodating. He was so excited to tell us the history and all about the area and spent a long time acclimating us to everything we should see and do. if you are here to really experience Hawaii and the beauty of this island this is the place to stay! thank you Lee we will be back!!!

Okay Hana Place

  • 3 of 5

Being that I live on Maui, I pick this place because of what the add stated, which I found to not be true, pictures of rental are not up to date. House was clean, though kitchen could use a scrub and the cooking pans were not usable because they were burnt and Teflon was worn away. As far as the view of ocean, very limited from house, plants are very over grown in front of windows and planting of coconut palms by road side, gives little view. Place could be great, needs some attention. So if the view is not on your list and rental cost is of no concern, the place is at best average.

Owner's Response: I apologize if my vacation rental was not as expected or desired by this guest. I do my best to provide the majority of my guest with all their needs in this remote rural location. I offer them the best rate for the value received in Hana in the best location near all the favorite tourist activities. I offer a variety of stainless steel pots and pans, quality kitchen utilities (vita mix blender, rice cooker, micro wave oven, etc.), modern appliances, chinaware, stem glasses and quality flat ware. If a kitchen item is missing or needed by a guest and is not available, there is usually something else that can be substituted in its place. Sometimes guest will substitute my stainless steel pots and frying pans in place of a Teflon pan or leave it burnt. My professional housekeepers do their best to clean and care for my home as best as a possible and sometimes items get overlooked in the kitchen area because it get the most mistreatment and abuse in the home. . The house is designed by an award winning architect, Jim Pearson, who won over 200 architects throughout the US and Hawaii for his design of a tropical home that is suitable for our climatic conditions and our local Hawaiian population. His investigation includes extensive research of successful plantation type homes all over the Pacific basin. If the view of the ocean and the Hana coast was compromised, I apologize as I leave planting of coconut palms and trees to bring the feeling of the outdoors into the house. I live so close to the ocean that I find the plants as being and asset. For me, having plants as a barrier from excess noise and to offer me more privacy is part of the ambiance of living in a secluded, private, rural tropical local Hawaiian location. You would not be able to have this kind of experience near populated tourist areas and common hotel type locations and accommodations. This is why I love my vacation home in Hana and why I go there when for peace and quiet away the madding crowds. Aloha, Lee Lopez
