I was born and raised in Hawaii. Grand Father arrived in Hawaii 1849 and he married my Hawaiian grandmother Sarah Kaahanui. I Graduated from University of Hawaii in Travel Industry Management. I inherited the property in Hana and built a quality vacation home that I share with my guest.
Lee Lopez purchased this house in 1993

We had a fantastic time at your place. Thanks for all of the advice about Hana! We shopped at Mana market before we left, bought Maui beef at Hasegawa (cooked on your nice grill), picked some papayas for breakfast, walked from the venus pools to the pines, and swam at red sand beach. Can't think of anything we missed from your tick list; you're an excellent host. We'll recommend your place to any of our friends headed that way.

8 adults rented this house. I know accommodations are limited in Hana but this home was not up to par. I personally did not rent this home but was one of the eight that stayed here.
First I will say that the owner is very nice and personable. If you notice, most of the reviews are quite old. At one time this was probably a beautiful home.
We found the grounds overgrown and there were several full garbage cans of garbage and recyclables near the parking area.
Broken down washing machines/dryers/hoses on the property
The sitting outdoor areas furniture was mildewed, and had rat/mice droppings on them, and in horrible condition.
The two king beds in the bedrooms were comfortable, however the beds on the lanai were so hard and uncomfortable that the two couples had sore backs and hips.
The kitchen counter tile grout is disgusting, black moldy grout. The refrigerator leaked air so it was consistently dripping wet on the outside doors.
There are no fans in the house. Portable fans in each room would have been nice. You can't always count on the trade winds to cool down the house.
The screens on the windows had several holes in them, therefore, the mosquitoes were a nuisance.
The cushion on the couch in the living room so soft you had trouble getting off the couch. They had a blanket that was covering the cushion and it was filthy.
There is so much dry rot in and outside the house. I know the area is damp but if you're going to rent out a home this is general maintenance
The location is perfect and as I said before at one time this was a very beautiful home. It needs major maintenance and updating.
If I would have seen a review like mine I would not have rented this home unless I was 21 and needed a party house. I have pictures that I can share but prefer not to post them.
anyone who found this place to be less than wonderful should stay in a Hyatt or Hilton they don't want to stay and a Hawaiian home!!! this place is absolutely fabulous! it is a tropical jungle area of the island so of course there are bugs but none in the home that we found it was very clean, well kept and ready for our enjoyment! we have already called to try and book again next month and plan on using this as our home in Hana... The owner could not be more personable and accommodating. He was so excited to tell us the history and all about the area and spent a long time acclimating us to everything we should see and do. if you are here to really experience Hawaii and the beauty of this island this is the place to stay! thank you Lee we will be back!!!
Being that I live on Maui, I pick this place because of what the add stated, which I found to not be true, pictures of rental are not up to date. House was clean, though kitchen could use a scrub and the cooking pans were not usable because they were burnt and Teflon was worn away. As far as the view of ocean, very limited from house, plants are very over grown in front of windows and planting of coconut palms by road side, gives little view. Place could be great, needs some attention. So if the view is not on your list and rental cost is of no concern, the place is at best average.
We enjoyed ever moment of our Hana vacation thanks to the beautiful well cared for home we were so lucky to rent. The home is located on a very large manicured lot and set back for lots of privacy and beautiful ocean views. Our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer!!
We will definitely be back. THANK YOU!! Pamela
This is no longer a luxury accommodation, but has become a dirty, ant infested house. The owner has put out several small ant baits, but the problem is much bigger than that. We first noticed the ants when we drove up and parked by the front door and got out. If we stayed still longer than a few seconds, we had ants crawling on us. We could see the ants crawling up and down the support posts to the second floor. There are ants in every room of the house, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. They were crawling in the dishwasher and in the showers. When we contacted the owner, he didn’t really listen to what we were saying and all he said was that he would have the housekeeper put out more bait traps.
The pictures on his website and on this site are outdated. The vegetation has grown up so much in front of the house that the view of the ocean is mostly blocked. Also, as you can see from the pictures, there are no shades on any windows. So you cannot block out the sun to try to keep a room cooler during the day. There are also no ceiling fans to help the air circulate. So in the summer, it was very hot. The lack of shades also makes the inside of the house a magnet for bugs when it gets dark outside since they come to the light.
The beds in the lanai are futons and are very very hard. Even our young kids complained about how stiff they were.
The dishwasher and the oven only worked sporadically when we were there. The owner kept telling us that we weren’t latching the dishwasher completely shut, but we are certain that we were since we heard the click that he told us to listen for. The oven stove top worked the whole time, but the actual oven would just stop working for periods of time (the light that displayed the time on the oven would turn off and none of the oven buttons would work). We would look again later and it would be back on.
The house cleaning must be minimal, as evident by the gecko skeleton on one of the window sills.
We were booked to stay for four nights, but we only made it to three. We left a night early because of all these issues. The owner did not respond well to our concerns.
This home was on a beautiful huge lot right across from the coast. Only 2 miles past Hana. Great owner with attention to detail. Would stay here longer than 2 nights in the future!
After you pass the Hasegawa General Store in Hana Town, go another 3 miles on the Hana hwy in the direction of Hamoa Beach, house is on the right after the 47mile marker on Hana highway. Mail Box number 6820; HC! Box 12.
